Very helpful. I love your videos! I have to admire your dedication: in some scenes your white pencil is down to an inch long! :)

Gotta use up every bit of these pencils because they're expensive! I've seen some people use them as little tiny nubs without even a pencil extender, and I don't know how they can do that without their hand hurting. 😆

@@jessicamatheneyfineart I can imagine. For now, I'm sticking with my Prismacolors, mostly because I'm obsessed with art supplies and have spent too much on other supplies. :) My most expensive set is my Lyra Rembrant Polycolor, which I love (and can get in open stock locally.) Once I'm a bit more experienced, then maybe I'll give the Luminance and Polychromos a try.

Aren't we all obsessed with art supplies? 😆 Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor are pretty great pencils, probably a close equal to Faber-Castell Polychromos, both are oil based colored pencils. That's cool you can get them locally to you, not many of the upper end brands of supplies are sold in local stores!

"Raises hand" , Have a question , I do wanna draw realistic fur but the thing is I only have 24 which is a major downside , I try to replicate the light and dark's of a color based on how much pressure i apply on the paper but that just doesn't seem to work , any tips for me ?? (:

Elvira, hi. Creating lights and darks with colored pencils can be achieved in multiple ways. Applying pressure is only one of them. Layering is a basic technique and a good starting point. That said, it may not be your technique that's the issue... I'm not a professional artist, but several years ago, I learned that using the wrong tools can be a frustrating, ego-destroying experience. One common "wisdom" is, "I'm a beginner, so I don't need good tools." In my experience, this is self-defeating and just plain wrong. When we don't get the results we want, we often say, "What am I doing wrong?" Without good tools, we don't know if it's us or the tools. Two important factors are the paper and pencils you are using. For paper, Legion Stonehenge and Strathmore Bristol Vellum are two excellent papers for colored pencil drawing. (Watercolor, watercolor pencils, graphite, and pastel drawings/paintings may require different papers.) Faber Castell Polychromos, Caran D'Ache Luminance, Derwent, and Prismacolor pencils are excellent options for color pencils. Each has plusses and minuses, but each can produce great results when used properly. I have all of the above and speak from experience. I know that my failures are MY failures and not caused by the tools I'm using. 24 colors may be enough, but please review your pencils and paper first. If necessary, try getting a small selection of one of the paper and pencil options above and then retry. I think you will see a difference. Best regards, Dan.

You can make just about any color with just 24 pencils, it just takes some trial and error on a sheet of scratch paper to test out which color combinations make the right one. Most subjects have a blend of 2 or more different colors to get the right color needed for highlights, mid-tones and shadows. Once you've figured out which one works the best by testing out your color mixing on scratch paper, then apply it to your drawing.
