Planting out Climbing Beans, Clearing for new Crops and Getting to 10k! || Plot 37 (Episode 61)

Planting out the beans this week at the allotment, at last. They are all climbing beans and will be growing up over arches to save space in the raised beds. The beans we are planting out were all started in Root Trainer pots (These - amzn.to/3puU6sb ) and were sowed about 2 weeks ago.

I am also clearing some bolted lettuce plants from the top bed, which is a little shadier than my other raised beds so i will be growing things that prefer the shade up there. Second sowing of peas and spinach for salad eating.
The chickens are up to no good this week, destroying my beetroot seedlings and pulling out all my pricked out kohl rabi seedlings. They can really be buggers! Also slugs... i am worried about the slugs eating all of my beans!

Traps work wonders on the slugs in my garden here in Ohio. All I do is cut the bottoms off plastic water bottles and bury the bottoms up to the brim then fill with beer, wine or apple cider vinegar. You can dilute or use full strength of any of these. Slugs will flock to the traps and won't be able to climb out.

I have an allotment with my brother 2nd year love it love it....wasnt sure of what to do when he bought two plant pots of strawberry plants, as we already had some in the ground. Your tip of handing them in the friut cage a few months ago solved the problem. Brought home 6 big fat juicy strawberries tonight. Tell everyone at the allotment they should watch Plot 37.

Hope your beans make it! The slugs took my first planting of beans and I’m about to plant my spares. I’ve put nematodes into the ground since then so hoping that should knock the slugs back. I’ve not used nematodes before so not sure how effective.

Love broad beans...yummm. and the scent from the flowers in early evening is divine, it fills my whole garden. I always grow them in pots at home now rather than the farm because its only me that eats them. Quite often I dont get them the 20ft distance from the pot to the kitchen lol. Love eating them raw straight out of their furry sleeping bags lol. Congrats on reaching 10k

Hi Jess love your Vlog. Could you put a piece of tubing, old water pipe or cardboard, around your bean plants to deter slugs. I did that this year to deter slaters and earwigs from gnawing the stems and had good success. I just left the tubing on as they grew because the stems weren’t being restricted. #SouthernAustralia

I have raised beds and I have got copper tape around the beds to stop smails and slugs and don't know if it work but Tring anytime to stop just thought I would say to you and with my lettuce plant in the beds then cover with a half plastic bottle and keep covered till grown well hope this help you but great video

How much were the bees loving that poppy? 🐝🐝 I feel your pain with the chickens, earlier this year I proudly bought some Taunton Deane perennial Kale and one of our chickens escaped lockdown and ate practically all the cutting, luckily it slowly recovered! I have grown the crimson flowered broad beans which look good when in flower. The golden podded mangetout from Real Seeds are looking good now - beautiful looking lilac or pale purple flowers just forming on them on my allotment in North Manchester - I am looking forward to harvesting the yellow podded mangetout!
