I’ve sold my Gucci LV and YSL bags because of Tanner Leatherstein a pro leather craftsman here on YT, he has really changed my mind on luxury. A lot of these luxury brands charge so much for using basic substantial materials in their items so basically you’re literally just paying for a name and status that is all! A Coach or Rebecca Minkoff bag will hold up just as well as Chanel the only difference is in the name! People are so brainwashed by consumerism and social media it’s really sad…

Hermes is definitely being joked about in certain circles. An acquaintance of mine who is very, very wealthy told me that she and her friends “moved on from Hermes” a couple years ago because Hermes makes fools of people and they consider the brand a joke. I can’t imagine, I love Hermes, however I have enough and wish for nothing more from the brand. I don’t feel their housewares or furnishings are worth the price. I have way cooler things for the same price. I guess for some people they’ll never be “done”.

To me, it's not that I'm bored with luxury bags. I look at bags these days and don't think they are worth the money. Chanel bags all look the same, or they look plastic with weird colors. They are now known for poor craftsmanship and zero customer service if there's a problem. Where's the value in that? As for Hermes. Ugh. You couldn't pay me to take that journey. Just NOT worth it. We all have our perceived limit of price vs. value. I have definitely reached my limit. Have just sold a bunch of bags and thinking of selling more. I will keep the ones I truly use and love. As for the rest. Bye bye. My New Year's Resolution is to live life to the fullest - and get rid of the STUFF that is weighing me down. Happy New Year, Jessie! All the best to you in 2024!

Your video spoke the mind of so many of us. I couldn't understand how a person could spend over a thousand dollars on a bag more than 20 years ago. Then I went into LV, then into Chanel and finally into Hermes. I bought so many bags at one stage that i started feeling anxious about theft at home when I went for overseas holidays. Then I started watching videos on luxury minimalism. I started selling bags away which i didn't use or spark joy anymore. I am left with around 14 hermes/lv/Chanel bags now and will only shop intentionally. I am so much happier now.

Through a lot of mindfulness and practice, I'm feeling quite content not with just my handbag collection, but with just about everything I own. I feel so ready for a no-buy 2024! I couldn't tell you how I kicked the addiction, but a lot of it has to do with being in mid life and thinking quite seriously about future retirement and my girls' educations. Buying expensive material goods at this point feels irresponsible and decadent (for me). It was fun in my 20s and early 30s, but I wish I had saved that money instead.
@kerriedunn257311 ай бұрын
I predict that in the not too distant future, major luxury influencers and celebrities will turn their backs on the likes of Hermes and Chanel and this will cause a panic sell off by everyone causing these silly bags to majorly lose their value. Even Purseblog's latest post states "While spotting a Hermès bag in the wild was once a rarity, now I can easily find handfuls of Hermès bags in a one-hour outing in Miami each visit. "
@eat.food.not.friends11 ай бұрын
With 50 bags that you carry alternately, you only wear each one about 7 times a year!! You have to think about that! This means that if you wear that green bag in the background today, it will be about 2 months before you wear it again. Provided you carry each bag regularly and alternately. I think the bag is too good for that. I think it's better to only have 2 or 3 expensive bags and to wear them often. But that's just my opinion....
@sheonlydances11 ай бұрын
I have to put in my two cents 😂 I have “only” about 12 bags, four of which are Hermès. Sometimes I wear two or three different bags in one day, just because I love them all and I want to wear a specific one, but then it maybe starts raining, so I take another one that I also love and don’t I worry about water stains… but then I go for the bigger tote bag, because it actually fits the umbrella … 🤦🏻♀️😂 True story.
@eat.food.not.friends11 ай бұрын
@@sheonlydances I mean.... 12 is an ok number. I guess they are very differnt from another. As you wrote- one is a tote bag, then maby a clutch, and so on. Different bags for different occasions. I think that's 👌 ok, not yet a cause for concern... But 50 or more would be definitely too many....
@sheonlydances11 ай бұрын
I think that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy that many bags, because I get easily distracted. Instead of being special to me, they would become just a need to fill a never closing hole 🕳️. But I do often ask myself where do influencers stop? I also saw Mel’s new video and was shocked at the many boxes. If all the bags are real, how do you top the last video in order to deliver a click-bait content? What’s next - diamond crusted Birkin? Then what?

OMG I totally love that Kate Spade bag. I think we need to have a few fun bags too as long as it's not too overboard! I've become a bit bipolar. I have my H and then I have the cheaper fun bags. I think we ultimately need to just carry what makes us happy whatever it may be. I'm also not interested in exotics. Honestly I carry my contemporary bags these days way more than my Kellys. I don't feel as uptight and just feel so much more free which is truly priceless. I still love and enjoy my luxury bags and will continue to but they have a different purpose for my wardrobe and lifestyle. Love your chit chats and Happy 2024!!

Jessie it’s consumerism @ it’s best & FOMO. What are you trying to really achieve, what do the bags represent to you in life? My sister has issues with eating, when she’s stressed she eats. I’ve often said to my Sis “you can’t eat your issues” they’re still there. My handbag enjoyment didn’t come till later in life & I stopped @ 13, that’s enough for me. I didn’t buy any bags until every major life stage in my personal journey had been achieved. Bags are a luxury to purchase which should be well thought out prior to “pulling the trigger”. Bags are not an essential part of life. Choose experiences rather than buying “stuff”, great conversation thx. Happy New Year everyone. 🥳🎊🎉🍾😘🌷

I'm mad you likened Kate Spade to bland soup, even though I laughed, lol. I like Kate Spade. And even though I only have one luxury bag and everything else is "Coach level", I understand exactly what you say. Because it's the same for every thing you become accustomed to. Bags, jewelry, cars, watches, vacations, clothes, drugs ... and they're all like drugs, in a way. It takes ever more to get the same dopamine hit. My husband watched an interview with some rich guy (Joe Rogan?) who said when he first got a car he lusted after, he was so excited but now even getting a super luxury one doesn't bring him the same excitement that cheaper car did when he had less. This is honestly why the Hermes 'game' is ingenious, and though everyone hates it, as an outsider, I think it makes sense. It makes the bag more desirable, and gives to the wealthy something they often don't get: denial. Which in turn, when they finally get the item, gives them more of a dopamine hit than they would have gotten if it were easier to get. For me, after I get to a certain level in one thing I'm interested in, I tend to lose the passion for that thing and move on to something new to start the passion ladder all over again. I know the excitement I have around handbags won't last forever, regardless of cost ...

Hi Jesse. It's probably a good thing for me that I don't really love Birkin or Kelly, etc. So, I don't aspire to acquire them. I want to say something about some wealthy acquaintances. None of them own these bags. One buys shoes and bags at TJ Maxx. The second buys the fake perfume and fake bags in Asia when she travels. The third prefers to wear pajama pants and our home baseball team t-shirt every day. A 4th lady is not old, but has rather matronly taste (along with access to the private family jet). Interesting women, none a fashionista. I have learned from them that buying the dupe is acceptable. Plus smart, because you will have more money in the end. That said, I don't like Kate Spade. I like some Coach, not all. What I like is my Dooney & Bourke Zip Zip satchel. It is every bit as beautiful as the pink Bolide behind you. I think it is more beautiful actually. Beautiful leathers, gold plated hardware. Same shape as the Bolide, and the LV Alma. I ditched the desire to buy the Alma, because I have a Zip Zip, and I will be getting another. Confession: My weakness is Lady Dior.

Being truly honest (why you are buying bags with like a 1000% markup), especially with ourselves, is the first important step! We often like to justify our purchases so we can go on spending and acquiring. I was like that at one point but not anymore. Today I feel happier with a well made coach bag than a Chanel reissue bag I used to own. Also, the more bags (and other things) I had less happy and more overwhelmed I felt.

Thank you Jessie for another video like this, discussing thoughts I think a lot of luxury bag buyers have and exploring the psychology behind that constant search for bag peace. I’m going to try very hard this year to focus on my investments (pension etc) and not buy so many bags. And above all, to appreciate the bags I have. I have so many “dream” bags but you become jaded to them. I’m going to learn to revel in the bags I have. And only buy like one new bag I will keep and not resell, without sacrificing my investment plans.

I have no interest in playing the Hermes game to get one of their bags. I really love their silk and cashmere scarves. They’re fun to collect, can be purchased immediately and have beautiful interesting designs in multiple color options. For bags I like YSL, Givenchy, Valentino which are all still somewhat normal prices. To splash out I get Dior. Everytime I look at Chanel it never looks worth the price. I might get a vintage Chanel as the new bags really don’t look that great to me.

It has veey little to with happiness or fulfillment or any deep meaning. It's a natural progression when beginning any sort of collection. In the beginning a collection is a bunch of stuff. Thete are always classic "must have" things, things you like the color of, and eye catching designs you like. Whether its a bag, a watch, a shoe, or a guitar all will be used. Eventually you figure out what works for you ergonomically, what looks great with your wardrobe, and what looks great on your shelf. Once that happens you look at whats in the closet and there are a few no doubt home runs in there. A lot of it is meh. It may be a "must have" classic that just doesnt stir your soul. It may be s design that appeals to you visually but cant carry what needs carrying. It may be an art piece that you really like by itself but doesng work in your house. Buying new items loses its luster because its not likely to be a no doubt home run. It's a meh that isnt any more or less meh that what you have.already. Eventually the thrill will.come from searching and learning about yhe hobby and refining your taste.
