You have an amazing voice.

I have the same issue with my Little Lyme falling over. I would love to actually see you prune the way you do because I hate when they fall over. I, too, prune them about half way down, but will seriously try to prune them this way. Please think about a video in the spring. We don’t have chipmunks, but we have rabbits, deer and moles. Spray works sometimes, but I have discovered that rabbits will ear anything, sprayed or not. Liquid Fence. I also, love the Globe Blue Spruce. Great spot for it.

I enjoyed listening to you talk about your planning process for your landscape. You have done a great job, and it’s perfect for your house. The landscapers that builders hire do not always do a good job of choosing plants or planting the plants. I had chipmunks in my Michigan gardens. I used to chirp back at them, and they would fuss at me Lol. I would be very interested in seeing you prune up your hydrangeas next spring. I like your idea way better. I trimmed like the experts said and still had floppy hydrangeas. I used to go to Horrock’s Farm Market in Battle Creek. I loved that place.

Unfortunately they are moving their location to the old JC Penny’s in our local mall. It confuses me and I don’t understand how they are going to be able to keep their garden center part of the store.. but, I wanted to say I looked at a small blue spruce lollipop from there this year and it was ungodly expensive- like over $200 expensive and it was small. Like a baby in a gallon size pot. I was shocked. And actually, they are one of our more expensive garden centers around here. I recently got some deals on perennials at 30% off however, Meijer had theres at 50% off during the same time. Thank you for sharing with us. 😊♥️

You're right. I follow many gardeners in UK who marvel at how Americans prune hydrangeas down so low leaving the branches green and not able to hold up the flowers. I'm American living in the UK and not sure when it became standard for American gardeners to do this. It seems like it's been around forever. But since moving to the UK, I've learned differently. Giant blooms doesn't make for the best formed shrub.

You can do it! I think theres a place for flowering perennials for sure, but if you are wanting an area to look clean and tidy all season long, I have learned to stay away from them. And its hard cuz there are so many pretty ones. But for me Its not worth it to use that space and time for something that gives me a couple weeks worth of shine to then later look scruffy. Professional rodent control can help you control your chipmunk population. My grandmother was a farming wife. She would buy sunflower seeds, fill a 5 gallon bucket about half full of water, pour in a few seeds, and set the bucket in chipmunk land. Worked best next to a wall or a bench or whatever which was a few inches taller than bucket. Very quickly she controlled her rodent population.
