WOW! Thank you so much for this info about pruning Little Lime hydrangeas! I’m DEFINITELY trimming mine this way this spring! I love it! I literally shake the blooms on my little limes every time it rains and they STILL droop! Mine are 2 years old.I love the way your hydrangeas look! I can’t wait to try this on mine! Thank you Jess you are awesome!🌺🌸

You have so many God given gifts! Your landscape is gorgeous. You made complete sense! I have been pruning mine like you were too. I was getting huge blooms but no matter how strong the stems a rain would weigh them down horribly. I'm def going to do it your way this coming year and hope for the same results you are having

Thank you for this video. Love the taller begonias in the bed and I like the box wood cut in circles rather than streamlined. jes, you are so sweet and you get so much done. I am 82 and I want to do all that too but finding time wears us all out. Still put down mulch and five new plants plus three pots of mostly annuals on my patio. Hugs.

Maybe this is a little over the top, but you could paint those septic tank covers the same color as your grass and they would not be noticeable at all. (Except in the winter if your grass turns brown.) Thanks for the great tour!

This video was my first introduction to your channel. You have an amazing garden. I enjoyed your explanation and thought process of how you decided to landscape your garden. Of all the plants in your garden, I especially liked the pops of red. So many other channels I watch have muted, pastel tones. By the way, after I watched this video, I saw your Mackinac Island tour. You have an amazing voice.

Thank you very much Grace. Ya I just try to stay true to myself and do what I like in my own garden. I’m not too swayed by others. I figure if I’m gonna spend money and plant annuals then I want it to be worth it and be bright all season! And not have to fertilize it or maintain it. Everyone has their own favorites!! Thanks for the encouragements!

I have the same issue with my Little Lyme falling over. I would love to actually see you prune the way you do because I hate when they fall over. I, too, prune them about half way down, but will seriously try to prune them this way. Please think about a video in the spring. We don’t have chipmunks, but we have rabbits, deer and moles. Spray works sometimes, but I have discovered that rabbits will ear anything, sprayed or not. Liquid Fence. I also, love the Globe Blue Spruce. Great spot for it.

I enjoyed listening to you talk about your planning process for your landscape. You have done a great job, and it’s perfect for your house. The landscapers that builders hire do not always do a good job of choosing plants or planting the plants. I had chipmunks in my Michigan gardens. I used to chirp back at them, and they would fuss at me Lol. I would be very interested in seeing you prune up your hydrangeas next spring. I like your idea way better. I trimmed like the experts said and still had floppy hydrangeas. I used to go to Horrock’s Farm Market in Battle Creek. I loved that place.

I know my comment is late (I work nights so I’m not always awake during the day) but I love this video Jes. I, too, have a Horrocks in my town, I get lots of my plants from there. Unfortunately they are moving their location to the old JC Penny’s in our local mall. It confuses me and I don’t understand how they are going to be able to keep their garden center part of the store.. but, I wanted to say I looked at a small blue spruce lollipop from there this year and it was ungodly expensive- like over $200 expensive and it was small. Like a baby in a gallon size pot. I was shocked. And actually, they are one of our more expensive garden centers around here. I recently got some deals on perennials at 30% off however, Meijer had theres at 50% off during the same time. Thank you for sharing with us. 😊♥️

He’s, maybe do a stepping stone path out of round stones to blend the sceptic tank wholes? Just a thought 💭? 🤔🤷‍♀️

You're right. I follow many gardeners in UK who marvel at how Americans prune hydrangeas down so low leaving the branches green and not able to hold up the flowers. I'm American living in the UK and not sure when it became standard for American gardeners to do this. It seems like it's been around forever. But since moving to the UK, I've learned differently. Giant blooms doesn't make for the best formed shrub.

This is so encouraging because I just had to do something different and was listening to all the movies out there on pruning and it wasn’t working for me. Floppity flop galore! And so I just did the opposite and I love it! Thanks for telling me this. Glad I’m not the only one. The UK is on point :)

Thanks, Jes! This was so helpful! I’ve been trying to redo my front landscaping this past week. I let all the weeds grow in.🤦🏾‍♀ I started out adding more boxwoods, but then added more stuff. I’m feeling like I’m making a mistake trying to add flowering shrubs up there. I may need to rethink and edit.

You can do it! I think theres a place for flowering perennials for sure, but if you are wanting an area to look clean and tidy all season long, I have learned to stay away from them. And its hard cuz there are so many pretty ones. But for me Its not worth it to use that space and time for something that gives me a couple weeks worth of shine to then later look scruffy. Everyone is different though and I hope you come up with something that YOU love!!!

Professional rodent control can help you control your chipmunk population. My grandmother was a farming wife. She would buy sunflower seeds, fill a 5 gallon bucket about half full of water, pour in a few seeds, and set the bucket in chipmunk land. Worked best next to a wall or a bench or whatever which was a few inches taller than bucket. Very quickly she controlled her rodent population.

Wow this is exactly the video I needed. I loved your details about how you prune the hydrangeas. I’m just beginning to plant some and didn’t know how to prune them. I look forward to seeing your future videos how to prune again. I plan to review this one many times (I’m a slow learner). I’m saving this video for future reference. Love your thinking about wanting some color in the winter. I also learned from you what plants or trees would be good. I hope your husband appreciates your design work and the time this takes to put everything together. You are so much better than the so called professionals who are not as creative as you are. Thank you so much for your ideas and time in putting this video together.

Thanks for the encouragement Helen, I appreciate it. I usually don't really go along with every thing people tell me, I try to go mostly by my own experience because everyone's yards and circumstances are so different. Sometimes I question myself on things but if it works for me in my garden then I stick with it. If not, I try something else! Good luck!!!
