You make a lot of sense, but then you threw me for a loop when you said if you're not going to interpret Daniel literally, you might as well use the Bible as kindling. Daniel is replete with symbolism, though. It even contains within it the time scale, "70 weeks are determined." It's not literal. It's 70 weeks of years.
