Jesus as Fulfiller of Isaiah and the New Creation in Matthew 11

Was John (or his disciples?) struggling over whether Jesus was the Messiah or not? Why didn’t he give a straightforward answer as to whether or not he was the “Coming One”? How did he teach us to read Isaiah in light of his teaching and works of healing? Is John the Baptist really Elijah come down from heaven? How does Jesus blend two or three OT texts to show that John was more than just a prophet? Appreciated your insights into Jesus' ranking of the prophets: while John the Baptist (representing Elijah), was greatest in the old kingdom, even the most minor prophet in the kingdom of heaven has a greater prophesy. I think Jesus continues the metalepsis when discussing violence - I saw your wonderful presentation on that topic. Elijah is the prophet who slaughtered 450 prophets of Baal at Kishon brook after fire was sent down to consume Elijah's sacrifice of oblation, and he was later taken up in a chariot. It may be both a forewarning and a foretelling of the violence to come and a greater resurrection.

@@Christ100 Imagine you believe Elijah comes before before the Messiah - what do you know best about Elijah? - the battle of the prophets (where the 450 prophets of baal lose), and the resurrection by chariot. If John the Baptist represents Elijah, then why is he in prison? There is violence but the violence is against John the Baptist (execution) and Jesus (crucifixion). In contrast to the prophets of baal who die, Jesus rises from the dead. It is a complete overturning of the old kingdom.
