Wasn’t raised a Christian, had an experience at 18 y/o one night where I heard a voice tell me to pray as I was thinking about life. As I prayed, I said “God, help me” and immediately was flooded with love and surrounded by the presence of God, I couldn’t stop singing Jesus’ name. The only words I could use to describe it was “a spirit of holiness”. I’ve doubted my faith at many times but faith is a choice. There’s never 100% evidence and there’s lots of reasons to doubt. However, Jesus changed my life, I hope in his promises, and I’m walking forward in faith.

@@OneRuthless ok I don’t know exactly what experience you had so I can’t really speak to it. You sound like a materialist tho. Therefore you probably dont believe that you actually exist either. You are just chemicals in your brain. Morality is just chemicals in your brain. Nothing matters. There’s no meaning. Life is a cosmic accident. If you decide to look at life that way that’s your choice. I don’t believe the universe is an accident. My experience brought me to a changed life, freedom from addiction, and healing from a lot of pain. I have faith in God.

Consider all those places where Yahweh is scared , upset, did not know what to do, disappointed...eg. Gen 3.22 is enough to prove Yahweh atleast never wanted man or woman to live an eternal life. ---- And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." ----- It is very clear Yahweh got so shit scared and helpless that he cannot restrict access to the tree of life and the core intent being , he never wanted that man/woman live eternally like him. Horus and Krishna were also virgin births, it was all the rage for gods back then... Only Luke and Matthew even mention a virgin birth, it wasn't there in Mark from which they copied whole passages word for word, so they added it later to add a bit more sparkle. Most (if not all) of Jesus' miracles are copied from previous religious myths, with a bit of a twist to make them seem "even specialer". If every religious believer studied comparative religion, it would be obvious that most (if not all) of the Jesus story is copied from previous pagan religions, with ice and a twist of lemon.

The gospels don´t even agree on that. The virgin birth appears in only some gospels. In some gospels, Jesus only becomes the Messiah and "son of god" AFTER being baptized. Furthermore, Jesus was born in Nazareth and the two Bethlehem stories are clear fabrications (contradicting each other at that) to justify the man everybody knew as Nazarene being descendant of David and the Messiah (since many jews questioned the whole Messiah story, since the Messiah was NOT supposed to die)

This is my first time watching your stream. I found it very informative & very helpful as an ex-evangelical who is still a Christian but not the kind of Christian that I was. I grew up knowing only the church, my dad was a nondenominational Chuirch of Christ preacher, I attended services at least 3 times a week, no exceptions. I was not allowed to wear pants to services or shorts at all. Looking back so much of my life was about control. I too looked at Revalations as something you could not understand & just stayed away from it because I found it scary. Growing up in that environment is traumatic. but the sad & bad part is you think it's normal. About 3 years ago during covid, I left my church of 20+ years due to hate & hypocrisy there. I began my deconstruction process. I was 45 when this happened. It is probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It was necessary & had to be done. I deconstructed because I wanted to love like Jesus. Thank you for making this video.

Hey! Deconstructing Christian here! Check out John Crowder, Rethinking God with a tacos, C. Baxter Kruger, etc. if you’re still a Christian and in the reconstruction phase. I would consider myself a perennialist at this point if I had to put a label on myself (which I’m not too fond of, having labeled myself all my life). I was Protestant, catholic, and orthodox, frantically searching for the “true” church. I still believe in Jesus, but it looks totally different then it used to. Just know that you aren’t alone!

Preterism. Years ago, well after I had lost my faith, and when I was posting on a creation/evolution forum, I watched a debate between a Futurist and a Preterist. It was funny because the debaters started off very friendly but within a few exchanges one was angrily screaming at the other. We could understand why because the other debater, the Futurist, simply stonewalled and refused to actually debate but rather told the Preterist that if he really tried, he would blow her away. She presented her arguments, and her evidence. He just stonewalled. This friendly debate lasted perhaps ten exchanges with the Preterist angrily walking away from an insincere Futurist. Not long after we saw the Preterist (partial) get into another tangle with another Preterist (full). Again, that was nasty. ^^ The stupid thing was that every one of these people would insist that we outsiders (evolutionists, atheists, and other theists) had falsehood and were on our way to hell, and that they and only they had the God given truth and were thus on their way to heaven. Yet these brawls showed just how much these folk disagreed with each other even though each person insisted that he or she had the absolute God given truth. ^^^ Utterly crazy stuff which each of these people were blind to.

I have a friend who is obsessed with end times. She picked a date in 2016 that she thought Jesus was coming back on. Then she got disillusioned. But SHE is the one who picked the wrong date! One cannot make assumptions that are not true and then blame God, the Church, or other believers. So, just because things are disappointing to an individual, it doesn't mean God doesn't exist.

I was raised in a very conservative church of Christ doctrine. From a young age I constantly compared other denominations to the church I attended, mainly because we were always told that “we” were the ones who had it right. Though not every one would go out knocking on doors when we held our gospel meeting I would be there, which was quite the ordeal for a very shy person. I never liked getting up in front of the group but eventually would give sermons along with prayers and such. I always felt more comfortable answering questions in class and studied quite a bit comparable to most. Though preterism got me out the door so to speak, yes the preaching from the pulpit at you is a real thing, it did give me time away from the week to week indoctrination. Taking the opportunity of that time I began to address verses that had always troubled me and came to the same conclusion as Derek and Mark.

@umun You bring u a good point as to the continued pressing of our unworthiness. Verses that state we are worms and any good things we may do are nothing but filthy rags fly in the face of verses that we are a holy nation and royalty in said nation. However, what got me to question the veracity of the Bible were verses that condone slavery. Try as I might I could no longer excuse them. I had read them before but late in my 50’s I could not logically ignore them any longer. I did not need to know geology or evolution to try to prove the message within was inconsistent with the proposed all loving god message. It just wasn’t! I did not have to be anger with this god, he just wasn’t either. Leviticus 25 and other verses is where I found this, all in the book.

Yes the old testament teaches about a God who loves you but also commits atrocities. And the new testament teaches God loves you but only if you believe a very specific narrative or else you will be tortured for eternity. I do believe in God... But DEFINITELY not the Bible. There's a lot of wisdom and beautiful passages in there but I also see a lot of made up and absolutely horrifying stories that the God I KNOW would have nothing to do with. I think the problem with religion is people but a man made book ABOVE God. Forgetting the more obvious truth that people made that stuff up over time, not God. So you can be free with that knowledge and truth and still believe in God and treat others well. Somehow I think we will still be "saved"

What I find laughable is the idea that Genesis makes more sense than Revelations. I’m probably the opposite of most people watching in that I was a happy atheist until I turned 25, and I've been happily religious for the past 18 years. Knowing full well how I viewed religious people when I was an atheist, I don't say much more than what Mark describes. With my 'sample size of one', my only argument for the next life is that I turned up in this one. And because I turned up here, I choose to explore what might happen in the next one. That’s basically my whole perspective on religion. I think their acknowledgement of this is beautifully put, and it's really interesting to hear the nuances they discuss within atheism bandwidth.

I see agnosticism and atheism as answers to different questions. I called my self agnostic when the question in my mind was “Is there a god?” After the deaths of my parents, the question became personal: “Do I believe in a god?” I wanted to believe in the supernatural, in a life after death so I’d see them again, but I couldn’t ignore that all the evidence I have makes me believe god doesn’t exist. I now identify as an atheist because I’m now answering the question of whether I believe in god.

I've been an Atheist as long as I can remember. I find these discussions about de-conversion very interesting, but doesn't my kind of atheism deserve more of our attention? What we want to understand is how to encourage an instinct toward critical thinking in our children as soon as they are capable. I guess it's not as interesting of a story, but, turns out, if we don't intentionally indoctrinate our children early on with our phony "ANSWERS" by the time they are roughly 7 yrs old, they will, intuitively, ask QUESTIONS like, "why should I believe such a crazy claim?" or ""what's the evidence for that?". Stories like Mr. Edward's show it can take intelligent people decades to get back to where that 7 year old intuitively begins.

It seems most Christians perceive their religion on a very superficial level but can find a lot more if they look at it differently. As an ex Catholic myself, the one thing I appreciated about their system was that they emphasized trying to BE like Christ. It’s quite different from most Americans where they see Christ as some kind of team that they need to be on thereby making everything OK after that. That said - I think the great Alan Watts nailed it in this statement: “I feel that Jesus was a person who had this colossal mystical experience that we call Cosmic Consciousness. The experience that your real self, is not that little superficial idea or image of yourself which we call “I”. But the total energy of the world flowing through you, and expressing itself in you. And that’s the real you. And it was on that basis for which he could say, “I and The Father are one”. What the Christians did was to stop the gospel cold by saying Jesus was God but nobody else. And so for lack of the spiritual experience of Jesus, nobody has been able to live the religion of Jesus. They have lived instead, the religion about Jesus. I am always fascinated by websites such as this that give me a peek into the strange world of the fundamentalist bubble and the way it leads some people away from Christianity but remaining in a weird place where they never lose their obsession with the Bible. This is alien to me. I grew up in the belief that science had the answer to everything, although I never shook the idea that there was a god behind this visible universe whose presence was beyond my reach. This led me on a wide ranging spiritual search that after many years culminated in the discovery of Jesus Christ, at which point I both understood why He had been unreachable and how the sacrifice of Jesus had bridged the gap that I could not cross. At that point I embraced Christianity . In the decades since I have dived deeply into the Bible and remain entranced by its analysis of the human condition and the way its message is conveyed in ancient myths, songs, rituals and glorious contradictions which point towards one truth. Keep searching for Truth. Challenge everything you think you know and never stop asking questions. And never assume you has reached the end of the road. You never know what lies round the next bend.

I grew up with a lot of church hurt. In a very rigid 5 times a week non-denominational church. I deconstructed in my early teens. When I say I ran the other way I literally mean ran. Anything you can think of I did. If anybody told me that at 37 I would have turned back to Christ I would’ve have laughed in their face. But then it happened i realized I had never truly had a relationship with Christ and had placed all the other people in my life and the Bible before him. I’m far from perfect and I mean far. But today I can honestly say that the only way to truly be a Christian is to realize that everything that happens inside and outside of the church is the very reason he laid down his life for me. I never really accepted the Christian story. So many things always made no sense. I tried different bible study groups in different denominations and only found myself more confused and questioning it even more. Overtime I allowed myself to seriously look to other religions. I’m currently studying Judaism and many of my questions have been answered and I have a lot less confusion. Not sure where I’ll end up but this feels good right now.

I also very much embrace the distinction between "atheists" and "antitheists." I call myself an atheist. I use that term to mean I am not convinced by the evidence for any gods. Some people use the term "agnostic atheist" and that probably describes me. I'm not saying that absolutely no gods exist, but I do believe the Christian tri-omni god is a logical impossibility. A god that's good but limited or that's uncaring might theoretically exist, but that hypothesis is unnecessary to understand the universe or live a good or happy life so until such time as I encounter a reason to believe in one I'll just assume they don't exist.

Ex agnostic here! The first time I read the whole Bible through, immediately realized it had all been fulfilled. I also realized Yahweh was a false god and the Jews had been worshipping the wrong god. Jesus told them “your father is not my father”. Jesus Father was El and he cried out to El on the cross. I am just coming to this same realisation and it's answered SO many questions. I'm just not sure where I sit now. I still find the teachings of Jesus to be insightful and when I follow them, it does bring a sense of peace. But while I still believe in a Creator, I have never believed Jesus to actually be God himself, and I now just see the Bible as a series of wisdom books written by man. The deconstruction has started but where it is taking me, I've no idea!

@@m24_4 I do believe that Jesus was the perfect reflection of His Father and He was the great alchemist. He came to teach us how to be anointed (Christed). Jesus (flesh) The Christ (anointed) flesh-anointed. But to ascend He had to crucify the flesh so the spirit could ascend. It’s interesting that the word crucify in the Aramaic means ascend. So when we choose righteousness and crucify our flesh (lower nature), God’s spirit that’s within us partners with our spirit and ascends it glory to glory. It’s really beautiful if you think about it. This is how we walk by the spirit. Scripture has been fulfilled and everything is spiritual now. We individually becoming a perfect reflection of our Father through an alchemy process that’s done through obedience and renewing the mind. That’s what I’ve come to believe.

I’ve been deconstructing in my own way the past couple years. I used to believe in eternal suffering and that Jesus was the son of YHWH, but now I’m a universalist and Marcionite/Zoroastrian after connecting the dots. Thanks to Paul Wallis for bringing to my attention that various Old Testament stories are retelling ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, Akkadian, and Assyrian stories that predate the Hebrew scriptures by a thousand or more years and that the reason why the Jewish God seems bipolar is because according to the much older stories it’s actually mostly two extraterrestrial brothers 👽 👽, among other aliens, fighting! One in favor of humanity, the other opposed. The Jews have made “satan” out to be one of God’s subordinates in the divine assembly while the New Testament makes the devil out to be God’s archnemesis but both the Jews and the Roman Catholics had agendas and borrowed from other belief systems to syncretize their own spin on it.

I was raised evangelical but I truly never fully believed. Had so many unanswered questions even as a child. When I got in trouble at about 10 years old in Sunday school because they did t like my question yet again I told my parents if they ever made me go again I would humiliate them with my behavior. Bad choice but I get it. The bottom line, however, is this: There is a God, we know this, you know this. This God has to be personal...it is the only god that makes sense. You really only have Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Christianity makes the only sense. I doubted God so asked Him for a sign. One morning, during my great time of doubt, I had a very vivid dream. A finger came out of the sky, it pointed at me, and I heard a voice say, "You know what you are. I called You to be my evangelist. Do it!!!" Weird, really. So I went to church and on the way to church I prayed: "Lord Jesus, if that was You, please have the pastor stop in the middle of the message, turn towards me, point his finger at me, and say the same thing." Well IT happened. Just like that. Never before nor after has that happened. I have no choice but to follow the Lord Jesus Christ and to be His missionary. I'm speaking to you from the harvest fields in Jamaica as a matter of fact. At 72!!! Can you believe that...I have NO DOUBT the Lord Jesus is real, crucified, risen, and alive and well. Following Him is the best thing you could ever do. Forget about all this philosophizing...please. You know the passages. How about Luke 12:20...make things right again with Him. He will take you back. There is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12.

Pam Reynolds NDE of 1994, where doctors and staff removed a brain aneurysm with zero brain activity (Flat lined EEG) and she left her body and witness all the staff, the instruments, the time on the wall...everything and the staff and Doctors backed up her story with reluctance. All we're Atheists or Agnostic. and that's not even close to possible, unless it's true. And Pam is only one of many who have gone through similar experiences. The evidence for life after death is greater than that against it. Just because one didn't have an NDE doesn't mean anything. 99.9% of all people who play the lottery, don't win the big prize. It wasn't until After I carefully read the Old Testament that I realized that God of The Old Testament is not the very definition of Love as quoted in 1 JOHN 4:16 but rather the polar opposite of Love. Yahweh dealt out pure evil horrific punishment even when dealing with his own so called chosen people The Children Of Israel....And if you happened to be someone other than a member of The Children Of Israel like an Egyptian, Amorite, Canaanite, Philistine, or Midianite then your Ass was grass. You either got mercilessly slaughtered no matter if you were a man, woman, or child, or if they happened to allow you to live you became a slave to The Children of Israel for life. All The captured virgins that they sometimes let live as described in Numbers chapter 31 were taken for sex slaves.. and then they got the audacity to call that monster The very definition of the God Of Love. The Bible was written by humans, they made it from their thoughts, not from the Creator. This is what you should think about and search for the Creator. The first books, Genesis, Exodus, Ovid, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, were all written by Ezra the priest from his mind, influenced by the Achaemenid culture. Also, the Gospels and the neglect of the apostles were written by individuals who did not meet Christ and did not know Him. So the Gospels did not express the Creator and are not truthful.

I don't believe in the Bible as the inerrant word of the one true God although the Bible does contain thousands of common sense Truths along with all the contradictions and lies. but I still believe that life in this Earthly existence was the result of some kind of Divine Creative force because the Evolution Big Bang Explosion Theory no matter how Atheists try to defend it is ludicrous- makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Founding Father Thomas Paine in my opinion said it best when he wrote in his book The Age Of Reason that explored the contents of the Christian Bible and literally dismantled it as being false from cover to cover. In his book called The Age Of Reason Paine wrote that he himself believed in only one Supreme Creator who didn't intervene in the affairs of man like selecting a certain Chosen People called The Children Of Israel. Paine wrote that he hoped for happiness beyond this life. that he believed in the equality of humans; and he believed that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow creatures happy. like treating others like we wish to be treated makes the most sense to me without the threat of being damned to an eternal Hell for not believing in a so called man-God named Jesus that you can't be sure even existed to save your soul by atonement from Yahwehs wrath through the shedding of his sacrificial blood. How can anyone 100% believe in something that they have never seen? Is it possible to believe something that you don't know with 100 percent certainty even exists because no one alive today can prove it exists.. the answer is no!

The only thing I would recommend (even at your earlier real time experience) is not to try to sterilize or be conciliatory regarding the shunning and passive/aggressive cult tactics used by your family and church peers when you first began to read more enlightened materials. I deconstructed both Assemblies of God and United Pentecostal Church (UPCI) Pentecostalism: the evil eye, the thing about parents and peers getting angry because they don't have answers for your new intellectual/theological discoveries and questions, being ghosted etc., NONE of it is because other people are just acting out with the only behavior they've known, or they're confused, or they're unable to see the sincerity and love you have for truth. I've suffered it and it is REAL and INTENTIONAL. It is a cult tactic. The more you look into the origins of modern-day Fun-n-mental-ist Evangeli-costal denominations: it is crazy cult, dumpster-fire, carnival-clown car, theological train wreck garbage as any other cult (cults you'd be completely comfortable saying, "that's a cult") beginning with Parham, Azusa, and Topeka Kansas crazies. I find that lots of people subconsciously normalize Evangelical\Pentecostal\Charismatic denominations as a homogenized default setting for "Christianity" in general. It's a smoke screen charade projected on our modern society thanks to TBN, Daystar, tele-evangelists, and mega-churches. They are manipulative cults just like you'd be more comfortable calling Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, or Scientologists in a cult. Our parents, peers, church friends, in that system are in a cult. Those Assembly of God style Charismatic and Pentecostal style churches are simply a cult. They are cults, period.

I absolutely DESPISE Christian Fundamentalism. Really, any religious fundamentalism, however, I find the Christian Fundamentalists of this time in history as being very dangerous and a threat to modern society. I'm ok with "regular " religion, though I have been an atheist since grade school. I think hard-core fundamentalism MUST be fought with rigor and intensity.

Ex-atheist here. Used to wear upside down crosses in my 20’s, never wanted anything to do with Christianity, I moked it and its followers. My particular journey was different, because the particular fundamentalist Christian denomination (Church Of Christ) that I grew up in was never focused on the kind of "end times" premillenialism doctrines that many other fundamentalist Christian denominations have. My path had to do with studying science and realizing that the young earth creationism beliefs I had were wrong. (Also, in fact, I remember arguing against premillenialist beliefs with some Baptists I knew in the 1970s, though I don't recall the details of my discussions from so long ago. I wasn't an atheist until 1984, when I realized I had studied myself out of my own religious beliefs entirely.) These other stories I hear from other atheists are interesting to me in regard to the differences in how religious believers come to realize the false nature of religious belief. In regard to books - Mark Edwards references a fundamentalist Christian book that he was influenced by - one of the books that influenced me was "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell (still published today). But after I took an astronomy course in college, I fully realized the fact that the entire concept of young earth creationism was false. This one fact alone - young earth creationism is false - became ever more prominent in my mind over the next few years. The reason why is simply because in coming to KNOW for a fact that young earth creationism is wrong, since by personal nature I've been "analytically minded," I understood that this meant that all of the religious argumentation used to justify belief in young earth creationism was itself logically fallacious in one way or another. And because of this, when I observed these same kinds of religious arguments - fallacious arguments - used to justify other religious beliefs, that's when I could already see, before I'd even delved into the details, the fallacious nature of the argumentation. This kind of analysis - in already comprehending ahead of time the illogical nature of the argumentation - is exactly what led me out of religious belief entirely around 3-1/2 to 4 years later, in my continuing study of science, religious philosophy, and re-reading the Bible itself with my "eyes wide open" for the first time. It was never something I intended to do, but was simply the result of "expanding realizations" in regard to the fundamentally fallacious nature of my own religious beliefs.

Also tons of videos of ex-Atheists who've had near death experiences, and became converted afterwards. Plenty of additional videos with those who've left the occult, who've described their experiences and ultimately turned to Christianity. It's all a matter of personal experience. To each his own.

​@@cthulhudreams I just want to mention a few things to you my friend. When you come to God, you need to come humbly , and be willing to surrender your life to God's will before anything will change. For some this change is immediately, others it's a slower process. If you're looking for evidence, ask yourself why there are numerous scientists, biologists, astronomers, even a few doctors on KZbin who were Atheists all their lives, then made a change. Why happened to cause that change? Listen to their testimonies. Also listen to the hundreds upon hundreds of near death experiences here on KZbin. It's just showing evidence for a spiritual world, even though not all of the experiences were Godly. I had a close friend who was a atheist his entire life until he almost died, and had a near death experience. He was actually declared dead for a few minutes, but was able to accurately tell the doctors what they were saying while he was declared dead, as well as describe what was happening in the hospital room next to him. He told me his spirit left his body and he saw everything. Also listen to the numerous testimonies of people involved in the occult who turned to Jesus and found freedom. Plenty right here on KZbin. The answers and testimonies are out there. And not one or two testimonies, there are thousands.
