Jesus not only had to die for our sins, but He also had to live for our righteousness. In this brief clip, R.C. Sproul explains what Christ’s active obedience means for His people.

Getting this concept changed my life. Although I gave my heart to Jesus in 1st grade I always was worried about being rejected when I sinned. I heard this from R.C.'s series on Justification by Faith Alone when I was age 50 and then it hit me, "Ohhh, it's not MY righteousness that saves me, it's HIS righteousness."

Righteous works of repentance and obedience and The fruits of the Spirit are the proof of true Faith in the Messiah. We walk humbly with our God because of our love for Christ not so he will except us. We believe in Him and that is what Justifies us before God. We serve Him and obey Him because He gave us a new heart that can love Him. His will is that we would know Him. Our desire is to be like him. He came to save His people from their sin not in their sin.

Exactly right Randy! That's why we TRUST in JESUS. The fruit is not the root, but the result of His Free Gift. "He" is our Righteousness, and has made us acceptable before GOD, who has become our HEAVENLY FATHER. RC often spoke of Luther, when he 1st "saw" this...he said it was like the gates of Heaven swung open, he walked thru, and was born again. Our GOD is amazing! GOD bless you brother.

Please pray for me. I deliberately rejected Christ for so long, almost a year. I was a professing Christian for about 1 year, and I walked away with the intention to get saved later, and to just enjoy sin for a little while. I was an apostate and now I am scared that with the amount of light i have been given I might commit the unforgivable sin. My issue is that I don't want to surrender my sin. I know I can't do it without God but I dont want God. I wish I wanted God, but I'm not sure if that feeling is genuine or not. I still love sin and I wish I didnt love my sin, I'm not sure if this feeling is sincere or genuine. I've been praying for God to make me hate my sin, but I'm not sure if those prayers are sincere or genuine. Please pray that my desire for salvation becomes genuine and sincere and that I get saved.

What is His righteousness? This verse will explain a lot! 1Co 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. So in contrast “righteousness” is the opposite of sin! So what is sin? 1Jn 3:4 Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. This makes “Righteousness” the “Law”! Warnings!!! Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Here Jesus is stating, those who “hear not Moses” (The Law) and the prophets, won’t listen to even, “though one rose from the dead”. Now look at this! (Jesus speaking) Mat 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Mat 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mat 5:11 Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Mat 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. ****Pro 28:9 He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. When are we washed, sanctified and justified? 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 1John1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We are washed, justified and sanctified all our lives. 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: He was raised for our justification to intercede for us when we sin all our lives. How can this be Christ's righteousness when it is ours?

I love Mr Sproul's teaching in so many ways. However I cannot follow this. Luke 18:9-14 points us in a different direction. It is the morning or evening sacrifice. The tax collector says literally "Be the atoning sacrifice for me". Jesus declares, (reckons) him to be in the right with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says something similar. That Jesus becomes sin for us SO THAT (ἵνα) we become the righteousness. It saddens me to hear Mr Sproul say that Jesus' death was not enough to make us righteous. Having our sins forgiven does not put us back at a zero. When our sins are removed righteousness is "imputed", or reckoned, or counted to us. Jesus' sinless life means that he dies as the spotless lamb. Is this not what Isaiah 53 teaches as well. Sin is removed by one man and many are made righteous. Thus we read" By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.". Thank you in any case.

So wrong But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Romans 4:5-8 KJV For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:17 KJV And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: Philippians 3:9 KJV Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Galatians 3:6-7 KJV But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Works are the fruit of Justification not the grounds thereof. The imputed righteousness of Christ that we receive by faith is the the ground of our justification. Works are the evidence and way we show that we are truly right with God.

Jesus is our righteousness? Not in the bible anywhere because it is a false teaching. Imputed righteousness simply means forgiven past sins at the time of faith. Forgiven all sins when we confess them. God wants obedience he does not want sacrifice for sins in the OT and he does not want confession of sins after the cross. We start with a clean slate and we, with God's Spirit of power, walk in the Spirit, which is obedience unto salvation. Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

I disagree with RC here. Jesus did not have to live in perfect obedience to the Torah in order to be righteous or to be the perfect lamb. He was and is righteous by his very being and essence. That Jesus is one with the Father, is the begotten of God, the Logos made flesh, means he is in the very nature and essence of God. So, is God good because he wills good things or are things good because God wills them? Indeed,Jesus is by nature righteous. He is by nature, One with God. In fact, He did abrogate the Law in his life. He abrogated the lawful stoning of the adulteress. He abgrogated the lawful distancing from unclean woman and lepers. This shows that He was God. His life did not show that he kept the Torah perfectly but that He abrogated its requirements for righteousness.
@nebraskasunshine88622 жыл бұрын
Is this guy serious??? Does he really think Christ's keeping of the law substitutes for us in time and place? 1. That means God has to allow sin to perpetuate for eternity in Heaven and New Jerusalem! 2. He's implying that acceptance of Christ's substitutionary sacrifice means Christ had to die twice! Once for all, then again in hell-fire for those who've obtained forgiveness. 3.Christ would have to apologize to the devil for not including him on the deal as it's not fair that lost humanity can be saved in sin but he can't! Really makes Christ out to be one great big hypocrite!! Fact is, Christ's death is provisionary, meaning that He died that we might accept true justification (changed by the indwelling in His Spirit through sinfreeness)!! Time for folks to leave off these pretentious preachers who are nothing more than paid sheep-in-wolves'-clothing and start studying truthes of God's Word for themselves!!

Yes, he is wrong. How can someone spend their whole life in the bible and teach such nonsense? God put his laws in our hearts and he empowers us to obey his law, Ezekiel 36. Jesus never obeyed the law for us. He sits in heaven interceding for us, cleansing our sins, to justify us before the Father. Luther and Calvin were lawless. They claim Romans 8 is Christ walking when it says that we walk in the righteousness of the law. Read Psalm 119 and see what David thought of God's law. It is a curse only to the wicked. Luther claimed that we don't have to obey and that we can't. He is saying our sins will not condemn us. He denies the very reason Jesus died. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Never says the righteousness of Christ. This is talking about forgiveness of sins and the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (Where does it say he was manifested to obey the law for us, nowhere, never, that is of the devil.) 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Does that sound like sinner and saint? No, we are righteous just as Christ was righteous when we confess and he cleanses us from "all" unrighteousness. Never justified once and forever. Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Who is it that will not obey the law of God, who is evil, who has sin reigning over them? It is the wicked.
