Dd s Historicity of Jesus is almost universally accepted by both theist & antitheist' biblical scholars - - > Jesus made clear heaven is indeed a real place. The vast majority of our observable universe is unknown - (dark matter) yet I doubt you ask for proof, of all that is theoretical in 'science'.

John Crouch LOL, hmmmm, yeah, cause the bible says we go to heaven, right!?! This guy is blasphemy towards the Father's Word.... Period.... He talks about SIN, but knows it NOT, He talks about righteousness, but knows it NOT.... Depends where your going when you die, but he won't be in the promised land, I believe he will be where there is nashing of teeth.....

John Crouch he didn’t say what the true Gospel is!!! It’s that Jesus died on the cross for all sin was buried rose again in the third day and was seen by over 500 witnesses. That’s what the Gospel is that’s what you must BELEIVE to be saved. Pusl delcared it in the first verse he hasn’t told you what it was yet then the second verse he tell you not to remember it in vain. Finally starting in verse three he starts and reels you what it is ending in verse 6 no periods it’s a continuation luka also preached it in acts 13:16-39 so he preached and deleted it in 1st corinthians 15:1-6 to the believers already and preached it to the unbelievers in acts 13:16-39 Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. Act 13:16 Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience. Act 13:17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. Act 13:18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. Act 13:19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. Act 13:20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. Act 13:21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years. Act 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. Act 13:23 Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus: Act 13:24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. Act 13:25 And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose. Act 13:26 Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. Act 13:27 For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. Act 13:28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain. Act 13:29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre. Act 13:30 But God raised him from the dead: Act 13:31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. Act 13:32 And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, Act 13:33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Act 13:34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Act 13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Act 13:36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: Act 13:37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. Act 13:38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: Act 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

@john146muaythai3 жыл бұрын
Sproul taught a false gospel The true gospel is the good news of the Person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, it is concerning who Christ is and what He did to save His elect only. The gospel includes the how and why, which can only be seen by faith. It is a message that declares how the eternal Son of God came down, took on a body of sinless flesh (John 1:14) as He was born of a virgin (Mat 1:23). He was both God and man in one Person. He was born under the Law to keep and fulfill it (Mat 5:18, Gal 4:4). He did that, not for Himself, but for all those He represented because they could not keep it themselves. The word of God calls these people the elect or His sheep, among several other names. His obedient life also included the part of dying. He took on the sin of His people as both a Substitute and Representative of those people. The Bible said He was "made to be sin" (II Cor 5:21) and the way that was done is by God imputing (legally reckoned or charged to the account of) sin to Christ. That means all the sin of all those people God chose was "laid on Him" (Isaiah 53:6). This sin was legally transferred to His account and He then owned it in such a way to be guilty of it all. God the Father poured out His wrath and hatred toward sin on His Son and had pleasure (Isaiah 53:10) in doing so, in that, He was completely satisfied in Christ as a Sacrifice that met all the demands of His strict Law and inflexible justice. Christ finished the work of paying the penalty of the Law and then said " It is finished" (John 19:30). He secured salvation for all God’s chosen people that would even be born. His resurrection is evidence of the acceptance of His sacrifice to the Father. The combined work of His obedience to the Law and His obedience unto death on the cross was considered establishing righteousness. This is what one of the Old Testament prophets prophesied as "bringing in an everlasting righteousness" (Daniel 9:24) as Christ died effectually and exclusively for those chosen of God before the world began (Eph 1:4). This righteousness is what God imputes to His people in the context of giving the life to believe in Christ. This puts them in a state called "Justification" and as a result they are eternally secure, in Christ. This is the gospel (Rom 1:16-17). All this takes place in such a way to show God as both a God of justice and a Savior. This is how grace reigns through righteousness (Rom 5:21)

Dr. Sproul was one of my professors at RTS, Jackson, MS. I always found his lectures lively and informative - he was a great communicator.... But after nearly 40 years of reflection I have come to a place where I now "see" how the entire issue of "the Gospel" (as understood by Calvinists) is couched in and conditioned by the historical "accidents" of that period - and that trying to keep this perspective alive fails to consider that the reformers may have been playing the wrong "language game" in their contentious dialog with the Roman church. In other words, given a different set of premises and presuppositions (than that of 16th century Thomism) - we might find ourselves closer to the truth when taking into account what we now know about second-temple Judaism, etc. And what if the reformers had entered into a more profitable dialogue with the Eastern church? There the issues of the Gospel are addressed far less forensically - and far more ontologically. The central issue that what the Gospel addresses is not (just) the legal violation of God's laws and character - but the deeper issues of human nature - and our debt to the law of sin and death. For such as Athanasius - this is foundationally addressed not first in the cross - but in the incarnation: God enters into solidarity with humanity to change and save us from the depths. Jesus IS our salvation - his person and works are inseparable - His death becomes OUR death - His Resurrection OUR resurrection... As the Torrances so wonderfully taught, we move from a forensic, legal, external, contractual understanding of the Gospel to one that is deeply filial, relational and ontological: we really do become the righteousness of God in Christ! (2 Cor. 5:21) because God really does Love us - and has acted unilaterally to bring about our justification - even while we still His enemies (Romans 5). sovereignlove.org

Amen to the simple and biblical gospel that Paul was so passionate about. That if we believe in the Lord Jesus as Scripture says we will be saved! This is a promise to all the world. Not for just a chosen few whom God chose to regenerate so that they may believe. Faith is the only requirement God demands from us. This pre supposes He gave us a free will to make real choices. I agree with much of what RC Has to say until he starts trying to sell that unbiblical TULIP which is definitely not the gospel.

The gospel is given in First Corinthians 15:1-4 That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that he was buried and rose again after three days, according to the scriptures. Galatians 1:7-9 Though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that we have preached unto you, let Him be accursed. As we said before, so say I again, if any man preach any other gospel than that ye have received, let him be accursed. The gospel is all grace, what Jesus did for us. Romans 11:6 It is all grace, not works, if it was by works, then it is no longer grace, and if by grace, it is no longer work. It can not be both. Jesus paid it all, and we paid 0. Salvation is a free gift of God by faith alone in Jesus finished work on the cross where he took all of our sins and gave us His perfect righteousness. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Eternal life is a free gift of God by faith alone. We are all sinners, that is why Christ had to die for us so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Second Corinthians 5:21. For he hath made him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Jesus paid the price we could not pay. He paid our sin debt in full so we have no sins to pay for and can not go to hell. If He had not paid for all our sins, we would have to go to hell to pay for the ones He did not pay for. AMAZING GRACE, JESUS PAID IT ALL and WE DID NOTHING FOR IT. IT IS FREE.

The new covenant is grace. Romans 11:6 We are saved by faith alone in Christ alone without works. Ephesians 2:8-9 IT is the gift of God, not by works. Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Salvation is now a free gift to all who believe. John 3:16 We are given eternal life. We do not earn it. It is a free gift. It is all grace, what Jesus did for us, not by what we do or do not do, our works. When we trust Jesus as our savior plus nothing, we are saved and given eternal life. John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and will not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life. Saved by faith alone in Christ alone without works. Justified by faith. Romans 3:28

Romans 11:6 IT is all grace, not works, if it was by works, it would no longer be grace, and if by grace it is no more works. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves. But Jesus did it all for us just because He loved us. AMAZING GRACE JESUS PAID IT ALL NOT JUST PART.

@20july19447 жыл бұрын
Tom: Genesis 3:15 15 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." *I wouldn't say that is the Gospel, although one could read that back into it after Calvary.* John 6:28-29 28 "Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" 29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." *That's much clearer. Would you say that it is God's will that we obey or not?* John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." *That's a good one as well. How do you interpret Jesus's several "fruit" parables? Why is the Vintner ANGRY at the fruitless fig tree?*

20july1944 No but it is the clearest statement. Repentance, which would follow an explanation of the gospel, is all over Acts in the KJV.

Sola: Since Tom70 gave some Jesus quotes that are definitely relevant, let me ask you to address my two questions to him in the post above yours. However, you and I already agree that "repentance" is part of the salvation process. The 1 Cor 15 quote doesn't mention "repentance" or even imply it, does it?
@jupiterinletfreediving37 жыл бұрын
20july1944 It does because when you truly believe in your heart (Roman’s 10:9-10) that God died on the cross, cold, naked and in agony...to pay for our sins, then that belief leads to repentance unto salvation. Taking the whole counsel of God we see that belief isn’t just with our mind (per James, since even demons believe and tremble)...but it’s in a deeper place... our heart per Roman’s 10. A deep, saving belief in that gospel ... leads to an understanding that we are wretched and have a wonderful savior. So we turn away from the sin that killed him and turn our hearts to him. Here is a short thing I wrote on repentance if interested; followingjesuschrist3.com/2015/04/29/sin-repentance-and-the-cross-of-christ/

The Gospel: the Messiah was Born at Trumpets, which has been a two day Feast/Holy Convocation since 500 B.C. What would of terrified tough guy shepherds? a lion, or bear, or wolves, no, but thousands and thousands of angels blowing Trumpets announcing the Birth of the New Born King would have. The Hebrew New Year's Day, began at the start of the 7th Month called Tishri. Tishri means Beginning. Trumpet is the only Feast/Holy Convocation that uses Ram's Horns (Shofar) all the rest use silver trumpets. Also note that the Dorset Ram is born in the spring and fall. And the shofar are from this ram. (Note the Genesis 22, "Ram with His Head caught in a Crown of Thorns" at Moriah.) Then eight days later the Messiah was Circumcised on the Day of Atonement, fulfilling the Circumcision Covenant given to Abraham, "thorough the loins of Abraham all nations will be blessed." Millions and millions of people have been circumcised souly to point to the coming Christ. In the Book of Acts, we read that circumcision is no longer required, but now optional, why? Because the Messiah fulfilled it. Notice that the entire New Testament opens up with the genealogy from Abraham to the Christ in Matthew 1. We then have Tabernacles, God with us, Emmanuel, the Messiah Tabernacling/Dwelling amongst us (John 1) for 33 without sin years, without leaven. People totally missed the point that the fall Feasts/Holy Convocations were for sin. The spring Feasts/Holy Convocations were for death. The Christ conquered sin and death. Notice one week prior to the Crucifixion that people put Tabernacle/Sukkot/Palm branches on the ground for the Messiah to ride over on a "beast of burden" that no one had ever ridden or can ever ride. He alone took our burden of sin. Then we have the Crucifixion, and oddly enough it was Friday the 13th. Because we are on a Hebrew Lunar Calendar, and every Sabbath was the 7th Day, and was a Saturday, and the Passover was Saturday, Nisan 14. His Body was taken down prior to that evening. Hebrews go from evening to morning for one day, exactly like Genesis 1. The Christ was our Passover Lamb. He was in the Tomb for Saturday, Sunday and Monday (as Jonah in Matthew 12:40), for half of the Unleavened Bread Week, He Rose of First Fruits Tuesday. Tuesday is also the Third Day of the week, Sunday 1, Monday 2 and Tuesday the Third Day. The Word of God also expresses His Resurrection Day as "the first day of the week". If you do not know the Feasts/Holy Convocations from Leviticus 23, you won't get this one. The Christ Rose of the first day of the week of week one of the 7 Weeks of 7, or 49 Days of Weeks, First Fruits is Day 1 of the 49. Something also very awesome is that God "saw it was good" twice on the Third Day of creation (Genesis 1:9-13). Some Orthodox Jews get married on Tuesday because God saw it was good twice on the third day. Interesting as well is that the very first Miracle of the Messiah was at a wedding on the third day, in John 2. During the 49 Days of Weeks, the Christ appeared to many, even 500 at one time, proving that He not only conquered sin but sin and death, which is the Gospel. Then on Day 50, Pentecost, He gave us His Holy Spirit, we are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. A huge point that has been overlooked is that the Only Day a year that sin can be atoned for is on the Day of Atonement. In the Torah, this is the Only Way. The talmud has another way, pray ask for forgiveness.... on the Day of Atonement and you are good. But the Torah does not say that. In the Torah, the High Priest goes into the Temple, Behind the Veil, into the Holy of Holies, before the Ark of the Covenant and makes atonement for the people year after year after year. This was the Only Way. Today there is not Temple, no Veil, No Holy of Holies, no Ark of the Covenant, no way to atone for sin per the Torah. Today people teach that the Messiah has yet to fulfill this, what? They are in essence teaching that He has yet to Atone for sin. The Christ was the Last and Great and Final High Priest of the Temple system. One Sacrifice, Once for all (Hebrew 10:10). He, the Manna from Heaven (Exodus 16, twice as much given on the 6th day), the Bread of Life (John 6), even being Born in Bethlehem (House of Bread) was Crucified on the 6th day so the people of God could have Eternal 7th Day Sabbath Rest. His 7 Feast/Holy Convocation Work equals our Eternal Sabbath Rest. His Work=our Rest.

Here goes Sproul on a tirade about how Rome is somehow polluted by Aristotelianism, yet Augustine was more influenced by Plotinus more than Rome is when it comes to Aquinas. In fact, most of Augustines odd views of divine control and those semi Augustinian ideas that Reformed Theology adheres to, was ripped straight from Plotinus. Augustine final words on his death bed are from Plotinus, not the gospel.

Reformation theology tries to teach people that any sort of required action is works based, but Catholicism teaching condign merit not strict merit. Reformed theology says there is only strict merit but that Christ did all the merit for you. But no, reformed theology is not biblical. Do you really believed we are totally depraved? Then how is it that Adam sinned before the fall? If we are depraved, did Christ have a depraved nature via Mary? If not, how could have died for us if he isn’t unified in our nature through the incarnation? Reformed theology teaches us that Jesus bore the wrath of the Father on our behalf. How is it that the Son was cut off from the Father, and how can you still be a Trinitarian? Sproul and company have no interest in dealing with these hard questions. Heck, it was only a couple years ago they were faced with some real Christological questions and the all fumbled it. Look up “Did God die on the cross? R.C Sproul” and you will see that he has no clue how to answer this and maintain that Christ is God. Reformed theology says a feel good, therapeutic system with a sophist like apologetic. It is neither historical or biblical. No biblical scholars really wrestle with reformed theology. The Substitutionary Atonement of Jesus Christ is not the gospel. Rather that is other gospel Paul and the other apostles warned about, exhorting us to take heed that no man deceive you by any means. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is simple: confess and repent of your sins for transgressing His Law, the Ten Commandments, and then walk after and keep them. What the church has done is make the gospel to be His testimony (life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension), which assume His sinless blood represents His righteousness for us after we confess and repent of our sins. The problem is that most of the church has come to a mindset to believe it's not possible, neither required we His Law because of Rom. 6:14 , which many misconstrue to their own destruction. The blood of Jesus Christ, though it covers our sins, it does not represent His holiness for us. Rather the purpose of His testimony, which is His grace, is to present us holy, which implies there is a labor we need to do to enter into His rest: to maintain and preserve ourselves holy, for He is holy (2 Thess. 5:23, Titus 3:8, 1 Pet. 1:16). Because of His testimony, He expects all that names His name to depart (cease) from iniquity (transgressing His Law; 1 Jn. 3:4). Therefore, if you think you are in Christ, yet you continue to sin by transgressing His Law, the Ten Commandments, you lie to yourself and others, and the truth is not in you (1 Jn. 2:3-4), for the one that is born again does not commit sin (1 Jn. 5:18). God is: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and these Three are one, amen.

Before his ascension Jesus said to his disciples, "I will send the promise of my Father upon you; but you must remain in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high. And on the fiftieth day after his resurrection this happened. It was not until the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples that they went out into the multitudes and the building of Christ's church began. The disciples preached the good news and God testified of them through the gifts of the Spirit. They performed miracles: the blind received their sight, the lame were healed, the insane gained their minds, the dead were raised and great signs were done. Through miracles, God testified that the words the disciples spoke were trustworthy. This was important then, because the Spirit's testimony, God's testimony that Jesus is the Messiah and He really is the Savior. And, if in human affairs the ordinary stamp and signature on a document certifies that it is trustworthy, how much more important is the witness of the Spirit's gifts, which without the intervention of God no man can receive. Today, there is no baptism of the Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit are not given to people, but for some reason there are many preachers. The question arises: How reasonable is it to trust someone who says he is from God and cannot provide a testimony from Him? So the prophecy that "this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." has yet to be fulfilled. For first there must come those to whom the Lord will entrust this work, as in the first century he entrusted the disciples. Only after the disciples have received the testimony of God will they go to preach the Good News. Find video : THE MYSTERY ABOUT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST

“Why do I need forgiveness?” “Why do I need Jesus?” These questions were not even hinted at or covered - this is not the Gospel. Jesus preached the Gospel and He surely didn’t preach about justification by faith alone. When we teach or talk about the Gospel, we must tell others “why” they need forgiveness, “why” they need Jesus.
@AlftraZignTriOxide Жыл бұрын
"Gospel" means "good news." "Why do I need forgiveness?" and "why do I need Jesus?" are the "bad news." I agree it's absolutely necessary to tell of what makes the good news so good, you must preach the law and damnation before the work of Christ can make sense. However, those are necessary preceding points before the Gospel, not the Gospel itself. I think you answered your own concern in your last statement. When we talk about the Gospel we must tell them why they need it, but you still recognize that those are two different and distinct issues. Clearly Sproul isn't giving an evangelistic sermon intended to display the Gospel to the unbeliever here. If you're looking for that, you're on the wrong video. I think it's pretty obvious that Sproul is teaching the flock so they are better prepared to defend and give an answer in the future. It's more of a defense of Evangelical theology than it is an evangelistic presentation of the Gospel to the lost.

It is not just Christ's righteousness. Has anyone even read John Calvin? Calvinist's claim that obedience of faith is not required or that unrighteousness, living in sin, will not condemn us. They claim that all our righteousness, even in Christ is filthy rags for justification. It is all about remission of sins. That is not the gospel that Jesus or Paul taught. Be doers of the law unto justification. Mathew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. According to John MacArthur Jesus was just stating an impossibility. What? The Pharisees weren't righteous, they had no faith. 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. We walk in the obedience of faith and if not we are condemned. It is not just remission of sins. We are not puppets. Good children obey their Father. It is not an option. It is not works it is love. It does not save us but it shows that we are saved. What saved the whole world? Abraham's faith alone or his obedience of faith? Genesis 22:18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Uhm…. This was 16 minutes of absolutely nothing that went nowhere. This didn’t even answer the question, at least not fully. For the briefest moment it was touched on, and then went way off into other things. If you’re gonna answer what the gospel or the message of the gospel is, then you should do so from scripture. And it can be answered very easily. 1- As Christians, meaning we imitate or follow Jesus’ example, what was the message that he was telling others during his life and ministry? 2- On top of following Jesus’ example, did he give any commands that was follow, imitate and expound to others? 3- What did his disciples and first century followers do and say, as that would be the next relevant example to imitate, since they’d have been the first ones doing and telling the world what the gospel was. Well for one, Jesus revealed, mostly through his actions and teaching, that he was God’s Son, or the Messiah. Through the records of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John we get his blood lineage, the many many prophecies he fulfilled that point to his identify, his miracles, sermons and teachings and the many prayers he spoke. He had a mission to fulfill. One, to give his life as the ransom. Two, to point everyone to his Fathers coming kingdom- which was where he was going ti be King, as well as fix all the problems that humans have had since Adam. The Lord’s Prayer was specifically, first and foremost about said kingdom. He also tells his disciples to “keep seeking first gods kingdom” and their daily needs would be cared for. He said his kingdom was “no part of this world”, and that he was the shepherd leading his followers. They would be led ultimately to his father, but to his kingdom, and the life giving waters that accompany it. He taught that everlasting life “means taking in knowledge of the one and only true God, and the one when he sent forth”. So his gospel message was to establish who he was, by evidence. Then share this with ones, and lead those ones to the kingdom. Point two, again through his sermon on the mount, the Lord’s Prayer, the last supper, and many other times, he told his followers to talk, about, wait on, and pray for the Kingdom, of which he was going to be ruler. His disciples were preaching “on the basis of his name” according to scripture- so continuing to find ones, share about the life of their beloved lord, and anticipate his coming. They were to “go therefore and make disciples, baptizing them…” so again, in imitation of their master becoming baptized to symbolize a dedication to God, and then teach others about his requirements and salvation for them, including repentance, acceptance, baptism and faith, AND works. Point 3- this is what his disciples and first century Christians were doing. “Preaching on the basis of his name” performing miracles. Paul took on missionary trips to reach farther and farther. He helped teach others to do this as well. And even in Revelation, the first century congregations were admonished on what to keep doing good, and what to avoid as they waiting for “the last days” and “end of the present system of things” until Jesus came. If we imitate and take heed of all that today, our focus is that we are following and imitating Christ to the best our ability, preaching to ones on the basis of his name showing that they achieve salvation and a relationship with the father through his son, and look forward to gods sovereignty being proved when his kingdom comes and takes reign over all. THAT is the message of the gospel.

Substitutionary atonement = propitiation
@WoundedEgo6 жыл бұрын
An atonement is made by a perp (sinner) as an expression of remorse and an appeal for forgiveness from the one offended. A propitiation is made by a public official (IE, a judge) to exonerate themselves for showing mercy and forgoing punishment. These are almost opposites. The death of Christ was a propitiation, not an atonement.

At 13:50 in the video he states: "Faith is the instrument, indeed the sole instrument, by which people are justified." This of course contradicts the apostle James. Citing Abraham's example, James wrote: "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only" (James 2:24). Abraham's works was his obedience; by or through faith he made the critical choice: to obey: "By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went" (Hebrews 11:8). Abraham received the blessings because he obeyed, not because he had faith. The Lord explained this to Abraham's son Isaac: "Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws" (Genesis 26:5). Would Abraham have received the blessings by having faith in the promises but staying home? Of course not! That would have been dead faith, faith without works, faith without obedience. Abraham's "works" was his obedience. James wrote about Abraham: "Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only" (James 2:22-24). Did Abraham receive the blessings, justification and imputed righteousness by "faith alone," by just thinking God's promises were true? No! He was a _believer._ In the true and complete sense of the word _believe_ he obeyed, he acted on his faith. His obedience made his faith alive and "perfect" or complete. Please realize this: those three verses from James show that _true believing is more than "faith alone"!_ Do we receive saving grace by "faith alone," simply thinking/trusting this or that is true? No! Jesus is "the author of eternal salvation unto all them that _obey_ Him" (Hebrews 5:9). And who is it that receives the holy spirit: is it those who have "faith alone"? No! "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that _obey_ him" (Peter, in Acts 5:32). Those who choose to obey are given the holy spirit to help and guide them in their obedience. So, how do we obey? God "now commands all men every where to repent" (Acts 7:30). We must _choose to come to God._ How do we come to that choice? _Through_ faith: "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for _he that cometh to God_ must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him" (Hebrews 11:6). It is the _choice_ we make - _to come to God_ - that matters, not just having faith that God is real and rewards them that seek Him, etc. Through the ransom Jesus made available on the cross, His life for ours, we can (by grace) be redeemed from the death penalty we have earned (Romans 6:23) for our past sins . . . IF we'll choose to turn from living apart from God, to turn from sin that earned us the death penalty in the first place. Without repentance, we remain unredeemed from the death penalty earned for past sins . . . and we will surely perish in death for those sins. That's why Jesus warned, saying "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish" (Luke 13:5). Those who preach "faith alone" are misrepresenting Jesus and deceiving many. After His resurrection Jesus appeared to His disciples. Notice what He told them to preach: "Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that *_repentance and remission of sins_* should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem" (Luke 24:45-47). Did Jesus tell them to preach "faith alone"? Let's go to Ephesians 2:8-10 for more about "works": "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Note that the passage says "by grace are ye saved *_through_* faith." It does not say "by grace are ye saved just by having faith." As we saw in Hebrews 11:6, it is _through_ faith that we can choose to "come to God." "Works" means different things according to the context. The "works" Paul referred to in Ephesians 2:9 was "good works" or good deeds as seen in verse 10. Neither these, nor "the works of the law" (circumcision, etc, from Paul's letters to the Romans and Galatians) can ever "earn" grace or justification. Abraham's "works" was yet another type of works: simple obedience through faith. Abraham's obedience made his faith alive and complete, making him a believer. For that, he was justified to God, righteousness was imputed to him and he received the promised blessings. Those who abide in a relationship with Jesus (John 15:1-6) are becoming "his workmanship" (Ephesians 2:10): the relationship with Him "yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them that are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11; Rev 3:19). This is sanctification, saving us from slavery to sin. As they become the "new man" Paul wrote about, they are learning to keep the commandments. And they produce good works because it is becoming their nature to do so. Those good works in no way earn justification, but they are evidence of faith made alive - and of the holy spirit received - through obedience. Redemption (from the death penalty we've earned for sin, Romans 6:23) is available by grace IF we'll obey and come to God in repentance, choosing to turn from sin that earned us the death penalty in the first place. Jesus made that redemption available when he provided a ransom - His life for ours - on the cross (re: Matthew 20:28, Hosea 13:14). Forgiven and redeemed, we stand justified. Jesus' righteousness is imputed or credited to us. If we actually _were_ righteous there would, of course, be no need to _impute_ righteousness to us. So, do we now coast along in sin, assuming Jesus' righteousness covers us, assuming Jesus did it all for us on the cross, assuming we're "saved," done deal? Oh no. Remember: we are becoming "his workmanship." We must choose to abide in Him and choose to continue in repentance as He leads us out of slavery to sin (John 15:6; 2 Peter 1:10, 11; Phil 2:12). Jesus finished making a ransom available on the cross, but His work is not finished. Many years afer His resurrection He said to His churches, His people: "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent" (Revelation 3:19). An ongoing relationship with Him "yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them that are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11). We are expected to follow His example and overcome, just as He overcame: "To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne" (Revelation 3:21). "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son" (Revelation 21:6). "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7). "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death" (Revelation 2:7). Jesus is at work right now, creating sons and daughters for the Father's eternal family. Are you in?

The book of James isn't addressing the issue of salvation or justification for one. Read it closer one issue he is addressing is antinomianism and false teachers. Faith alone is scripture which results in a new person which produces works. Jesus last words, it is finished, He did all the work you bring nothing and can offer nothing to God but the righteousness of Jesus attributed to you by faith. I am not going to quote the whole bible.

The gospel is the good news of salvation for the world, which was preached to the lost in order to transform their lives, free them from sin, make them new creations, and prepare them for heaven. Starting with John the Baptist, the message is consistent throughout the New Testament. John commanded the people to repent and be water baptized for the remission of sins, and to look for the one coming after him who would baptize them with the Holy Ghost. People came to hear him and were baptized in the Jordan. The baptism of John was a command that came from God in heaven. People obeyed it. Mark ch 1 Jesus preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God by saying you must be born again of water and Spirit in order to see and enter the Kingdom of God. That is a reference to water and Spirit baptism. John ch 3. Jesus commanded his disciples to preach the gospel. Those who believe and are baptized would be saved. Those who did not believe would be damned. Read the signs of those who believed in Mark 16. Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost that Jesus died for their sins, and that all should repent and be water baptized in Jesus' name for the remission of sins, and to believe God for the baptism of the Holy Ghost, which is promised to them. Acts ch 1 and 2. Thousands obeyed. Peter preached to Cornelius and family. That family was filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost and were commanded to be water baptized. Acts ch 10. Paul preached to the twelve in Ephesus and commanded them to be rebaptized in Jesus name in water, and he laid hands on them and prayed for them to receive the Holy Ghost. Acts ch 19. In Hebrews we read about the message from God about this great salvation. It is called the foundation, the milk, the first principles of the teachings of Christ. The message is repentance from dead works, faith toward God, the doctrine of baptisms (water and Spirit), the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Hebrews 6:1-4. There are six broad topics or first principlees to the gospel message of salvation. Those who were baptized with the Holy Ghost, they all spoke in tongues as a sign that the Spirit had come into their heart. I Corinthians is a long letter full of teaching about a set of topics. Paul used his gospel as a standard throughout the entire letter to correct errors about their beliefs and behaviors. He was not chatting and gossiping for 14 chapters before explaining his gospel in chapter 15. When he said he was declaring or explaining the gospel to them in chapter 15, he was referring to the entire letter, subject by subject. He does mention water baptism, and living righteously, and using the gifts of the Spirit, and other things relating to their new life after having been born again of the water and the Spirit, in his whole letter. The whole letter is an explanation of topics concerning his gospel. He says in chapter 15 that he had delivered to them "first of all" what he had received, and began to teach about the specific topic of the resurrection. The resurrection is one of the 6 topics of the gospel, or the first principles of the doctrines of Christ. That chapter goes on for 58 verses. It does not stop at verse 4. He is saying that he taught about the resurrection when he preached the gospel to them, and that this topic was "among the first things" he preached. Therefore it is among the very important teachings that save their soul. It is not the only topic. "First of all" is the English phrase in 15:3. "Among the first things" is the Greek. Paul was not telling them the gospel here, but reminding them that his gospel, which includes faith and repentance and baptisms, and judgment, also includes the resurrection of the dead, and he wanted them to understand the correct teaching . Some were teaching incorrectly, and since it is part of the gospel, he wanted to remind them of the truth of the resurrection which he had originally told them when he preached the gospel to them. People who think 1 Cor 15:1-4 is the gospel usually don't think you have to do anything except believe Jesus died for your sins. They think water and Spirit baptism are either extra blessings, or unnecessary self righteous works. They are not saved. They have failed to obey the commands of the gospel to repent, wash away their sins by water baptism in Jesus' name, and they know nothing of the baptism of the Spirit. They refuse to be born again of water and Spirit. This is how Satan has deceived millions of people into falling short of the requirements they need to see or enter the Kingdom of God. I hope someone will read this and understand and seek the truth.

@@godsfriend4120 the beginning of the gospel is John the Baptist preaching a water baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Then Jesus preached the gospel. You must be born again of the water and Spirit. The gospel was being preached long before Jesus died and rose again. He commanded that the gospel be preached in Mark 16. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. The testimony of Jesus’ resurrection came later. They were to be witnesses of his resurrection. That is not the gospel of salvation . You can’t obey “Jesus died and rose again.” How do you obey that? It’s not a command. It is the witness of the resurrection. The gospel was always, from the preaching of John the Baptist, repentance, water baptism for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. If you do those things you will be ready for the resurrection of believers.
