The title should read "Jesus & Psalm 82 - The Case for Jesus" Heiser was a blind guide. Heiser's divine council of angels Does not Exist! He was correct in God/Elohim capital "G" and gods/elohim lower case "g" but his application was all wrong. . He mentions suppressed, wonder who is being suppressed. Before Christ returns there will be MANY turning away from Christ, Many will exchange the TRUTH for a LIE., that is what you see in this video. Heiser has been elevated on a pedestal, in the process, Jesus was knocked off the pedestal. Heiser's teaching DESERVES all this scrutiny and criticism. I'll explain. The super natatural belongs to Jesus. Heiser's book the unseen realm falls apart in the first few paragraphs. From Heiser's Chapter 1 Unseen Realm "One such moment in my own life-the catalyst behind this book-came on a Sunday morning in church while I was in graduate school. I was chatting with a friend who, like me, was working on a PhD in Hebrew studies, killing a few minutes before the service started. I don’t recall much of the conversation, though I’m sure it was something about Old Testament theology. But I’ll never forget how it ended. My friend handed me his Hebrew Bible, open to Psalm 82 He said simply, “Here, read that … look at it closely.” The first verse hit me like a bolt of lightning: Psalm 82:1 God stands in the divine assembly; he administers judgment in the midst of the gods I’ve indicated the Hebrew wording that caught my eye and put my heart in my throat. The word elohim occurs twice in this short verse. Other than the covenant name, Yahweh, it’s the most common word in the Old Testament for God. And the first use of the word in this verse worked fine. But since I knew my Hebrew grammar, I saw immediately that the second instance needed to be translated as plural. There it was, plain as day: The God of the Old Testament was part of an assembly-a pantheon-of other gods." >>>>Okay this is from Heiser’s book the “Unseen Realm” Chapter 1 in his opening of this book. Let’s look at the word “pantheon”, this one word changes everything about Heiser’s theory. Heiser’s view of pantheon of other gods is spiritual/non-human/angelic, what most people do not know is that the word pantheon has a dual meaning, so it is not just pantheon spiritual gods. Let’s look at dictionary definiton for the word “pantheon” 1) a group of particularly respected, famous, or important people: somewhat formal : a group of people who are famous or important "the pantheon of the all-time greats" example: a building in which the illustrious dead of a nation are buried or honoured. 2) all the gods of a people or religion collectively: the gods of a particular country or group of people "the deities of the Hindu pantheon" (especially in ancient Greece and Rome) a temple dedicated to all the gods. So with the definition can apply to both 1) people and 2)pagan gods. What Heiser did when it came to Psalm 82, he applied the pagan god (elohim) meaning to the pantheon, which is the second use of the word pantheon, this is where he error's from the first chapter in his book the unseen realm. What Heiser should have done is apply the “FIRST” meaning of the word pantheon to the gods/elohim in Psalm 82, which would be people. When a person applies the “FIRST” meaning Israel now fits in Psalm 82 as the gods/elohim. Israel is Jacob’s decendents made up of 12 tribes. Psalm 82 is totally about Israel (Jacob’s decendents). Israel is the “Chosen People” of God in that time period, Israel is important because Jesus Christ, the Messiah would come through that people group, Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, Judah is how we get the term “Jew” from. So the pantheon of gods/elohim would be Israel all of Israel, which would consist of people that are Judges, Rulers, Kings, Elders and even the common Israelite person.>>"The Chosen People" So when a person Pairs up Psalm 82 and John 10 Israel, Jacob's decendents/12 tribes makes more sense. Heiser FAILED with Psalm 82 and his so called divine council, Heiser mislead many, Christians should be defending Christ!! Lets look at Psalm 82 and John 10. The elohim>> gods small "g" are the Chosen People>>>Israel/Jews. Jesus is the ONE who has "Ownership" with telling us who the elohim of Psalm 82, not tradition or mere man. I'm NOT wrong, I'm just saying Jesus has the answer. Your argument is with Jesus.... not me. John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, (Israelites/Jews/the Chosen People) ‘I said, “You are gods (Israelites/Jews/the Chosen People from Psalm 82) ” ’? 35 If He called them gods (Israelites/Jews/the Chosen People from Psalm 82), to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),">>>the word of the Lord came to (Israelites/Jews/the Chosen People). ---Remember the word of the Lord was communicated through prophets like Asaph who wrote Psalm 82. God (Father) communicated through Asaph, so in the New Testament Jesus (Son) could fulfill those words that were spoken from the OT in the NT. In the New Testament the word/Word became Flesh>>>John 1>>The word/Word become flesh is Jesus!! Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;>>>>Israel/the Chosen People on the earth!!!- ---Asaph the prophet is the Psalmist of Psalm 82, God communicated through Asaph to Israel/Jews/the Chosen People. Luke 24: 44,45 Jesus speaking>>> "Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. ----Jesus is the fulfillment or the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms>>>>that is WHY you Pair up the "I said, you are gods" John 10 and Psalm 82>>>referring to Israel/Jews/the Chosen People. A person has to have an open mind so the scriputre can be understood. Did the word of the Lord come to angels? Was the law given to angels? Look at John 10. Who was God always dealing with in the OT? Was it angels or Israel the Chosen People? The Chosen People Israel/Jews are the elohim/gods.

I greatly appreciate Dr. Heiser. Nothing will ever change my mind on that. In fact, to me, he is one of “the greats.” Because of him, I can understand my Bible far better than I ever have before (and I am an avid studies of the Bible). My “Heiser knowledge” has made a big difference in my ability to become closer to my Savior and the Holy Spirit.

God's sovereign spirit moves where it wills historicly. I came away relaxing, thankful, breathing deeply, rejoicing and dancing to HIS wonderous work of grace. Whosoever may come. I can now pickup my bed and move along, join in thanksgiving.

I am an ex-soviet Jewish orphan. I was adopted into a Christian family at the age of 11. The reason I became a Christian had very little to do with my christian family (I was extremely rebellious) and more to do with the dreams I kept dreaming at night since I was about 3 years old, my dreams were/are incessant. I had absolutely 0 Christian upbringing in a Soviet Union orphanage. I didn’t know what God was. I became a Christian after I read the Bible at the age of 12, I realised the Bible explained the dreams I had been dreaming for many, many, many years. As I grew older I accepted the teaching of Jesus with my whole heart because I kept seeing him in my dreams at night. But I couldn’t explain the other aspects of my dreams, I had never heard anybody who could do so until Dr Michael Heiser. The day I discovered his deep teaching was the day my Christianity truly found a home. I couldn’t believe that he talked about ALL the things I’d experienced in my dreams from a very young age and he backed it up with BIBLICAL teaching (I’m a Baptist Christian & very conservative). And the way he explained things was so easy to understand and he used my own Bible to do it, it was like a gift I could never ever repay. I am not a part of the Charismatic movement (I don’t understand it myself but far be it from me to deny it to those who find Jesus through it) but I promise as my Lord & Saviour lives, Dr Michael Heiser was an original teacher & very much correct. I miss him & thank the Lord Jesus I came across him when I did, for I had began to despair that I was the only one in this universe & maybe I had been reading (& loving) my own Bible all wrong. I am glad, so so very glad for Dr Michael Heiser teachings, what a GIFT from the Lord Jesus. “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” 1 Cor 2:10

@Xerendipitist. I would be careful not to be overly concerned with dreams or Heiser. Heiser was not the best Bible interpreter, since he often engaged in eisegesis and Scripture twisting. If you doubt this, all you have to do is take a look at the series "The UnBiblical Realm: Refuting Michael Heiser's Divine Council w/Heath Henning." While I can understand an attachment to Heiser for helping you with some things, it is not good to blindly trust any man according to Scripture. We are called to test what people claim (1 John 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; Proverbs 14:15). Once you begin to critically analyze Heiser's claims objectively, you will begin to see the truth that Heiser was not as sound as he appeared, or as evangelical as he appeared.

I watched unseen realm at least 20 times. No one is perfect in their teachings but he definitely expanded my thinking on the spiritual realm. I appreciate anyone spreading the gospel and earnestly seeking in spirit and truth.

I am so grateful for your show and I sorry because I’m a Christian but I’m also an old nyc firefighter and we are intense warriors and all these people attacking Mike now since he is gone makes me want to put there heads through a wall! They have so much to say now, they had plenty of time to debate him in life!!! Let these cowards debate guys like TIM who are also brilliant and are here to debate these clowns ! They piss me off sorry I know that’s not very Christian but Saul slaved his thousands but David his hundreds of thousands!!! Some of us Christian men still have warrior spirits that we work hard to keep in check!!!! This was my favorite to date. It was awesome to see Dr. Heiser defending his world view with tenacity. Sometimes he may seem a bit laid back but the Holy Spirit could certainly bring the fire to his words. I am so blessed I found his pod cast a few years before he passed. I am in with both feet.

When we let the text of the holy Bible say what it says… we find no problem with THE supernatural immaterial uncreated Elohim, I.e., Yahweh creating lower immaterial, supernatural beings…elohims. After all, who are Michael and Gabriel and who created them?

When my sister was dying, she asked me, but who is Jesus? We were raised Nazarene. Family of preachers. We knew who God was. Spirit. Above ALL. But in Isaiah the description of Jesus who was to come, created everything that was created, King of Kings, Lord of Lords. So is God actually Jesus with a human body He put on to come to earth for us? Or are their two main Gods? The Bible only mentions one throne. And Jesus is at the right hand of God. Does he stand? Or did He drop the human body and go back to His spirit body? I didn’t know what to tell her and I was her go to person about religion and the Bible. I failed her and now I don’t talk to anyone about this question. I completely failed her because I don’t know the answer. This is a very sincere question. Please help me.💔

Our God is a triune. One God three persons. 3 essences.The father the son and the Holy Spirit. It's a super high majestic form of really what we are in a way I'm being very humble here and I don't claim to be godlike I am totally adopted by Jesus,(I'm simply saying that we have a body we have a soul and we have a spirit.) Not one is more powerful or important than the other and they all work together. But the Father gave everything to his Son Jesus. So the only way the Father looks at us or accepts us is through his Son Jesus That's why we pray in Your Son's precious name Jesus Christ Amen. You have to run everything through Jesus. Heiser was excellent at making wordy, elusive, and often buried scholarly work accessible to the masses. His largest flaw was that he often took scholarly work in fields he was unfamiliar with at its word, things like evolution, Darwinism, and non-biblical cosmology. I understand a man has to maintain his credibility, but at a certain level, why embrace the ideas of Enoch or Genesis 6 as truths while allocating the creation to imaginary or figurative. It was a double edged sword. He took Psalms 82 and Genesis 6 and Job and all these passages about gods and was like “that’s literal” but whenever something biblical conflicted an atheistic “science” he reduced its emphasis to merely being allegorical. Had he read Genesis 1 and held it to the same standard (comparing it to similar Mesopotamian texts, just like he did for Genesis 6), then he would’ve come out of it with a similar and equally revolutionary idea: the cosmology indicated by the Bible is in fact the truth, and our current model- billion year, floating aimlessly through space cosmology- is a wicked lie that has led many to hopelessness and depravity. If the earth is billions of years old and creation was done through evolution, death was present before Adam. Evolution demands death. It also demands half changes that don’t make sense (a fish that flops onto land just dies. It doesn’t have a chance to evolve to breathe on land because it simply just dies). Many Pilots like myself know the truth of the earths form. Yet we are bribed with the prospect of high-paying careers to keep our mouths shut. It takes years and tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars to get an ATPL and most pilots don’t care, don’t notice, or simply keep their mouths shut because they’ll fire you and blacklist you if they ever find out. Heiser was an excellent scholar and made such things extremely accessible, yet his trust of the scholarly process (despite its Rockefeller and rothchilds funding) was ultimately his biggest gapping hole. He always wondered why seminary schools were so hollow yet never figured out it was something malicious to keep Christian’s dumb, ignorant and uninterested in Biblical truths and swap it out for pep talks and motivational speeches. Nonetheless, his crime wasn’t heresy, it was not defying modern Christian traditions even more.

Hopefully gentle admonishment(in love) will bring her to the truth or to realize she's been engaging in a witch hunt and that she was not acting in a Christ like manner. regardless if she agrees with the DC interpretation she ought to at least admit she went too far. All that said your comment reminds me of my concern with how people have been talking about this situation, this isn't WWE we need to carefully consider how we talk and think about disagreements within the church especially about other believers even if they're acting in a frustrating manner. We are after all here to image Christ and carry out the great commission.

Sometimes I’m the Bible God is above the heavens(or as you like to say, the skys) so when is he in the heavens and outside the heavens. He existed prior to the heavens/sky so he can be in both… and there are surely different words for sky and heaven right? Like how can heaven and earth come together when the sky and earth can’t come together. I don’t think those words are synonymous

The spiritual entities are real. The ancient people assumed the heavenly bodies must be those entities. But that does not take away from the truth that the spiritual powers and rulers do indeed exist. The sun and the moon and the stars are not them, but they were thought to be, because of the majesty of the heavens. We also must remember that our view of the heavens is no where near as beautiful as what the ancients saw each night. We see much less of its majesty due to artificial light. Most of us can’t even see the Milky Way anymore, just the moon and a handful of stars.

The gods will be measured against the judgment (sacrifice) by Adam. YHWH is without measure. (Are they) unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath? Of course not! For how else (are they) to judge… ? And why not say-- as we are accused and as some claim we say- that we should do evil that good may come of it? Their penalty is what they deserve. The biggest problem I have with Heiser on his interpretation of Psalm 82 is how he interpreted John 10 and Jesus' quoting of it. He assumed that Jesus' use somehow was meant to prove His divinity. In John 10:34 He spoke of those to whom the word of God came. This was human prophets and judges, etc. The word of God did not come to "divine beings." There are way too many problems with how Heiser read John 10 and what Jesus meant by quoting the Psalm. Obviously, He was not trying to say that He was a "divine being" just like those in the Psalm, since those alleged divine beings were guilty of sin! Jesus would be demoting Himself if He were equating Himself with them. But we know Jesus is equal to the Father and had just proclaimed this when He said He and the Father were "one" in 10:30. Jesus was merely using His characteristic style of arguing from the lesser (those to whom the word of God came, i.e., human prophets, judges, etc.) to the greater (Himself as sanctified and sent directly from the Father, in unity with the Father like no other) as the only unique Son of God. Then of course there's problem of Heiser conflating Psalm 89 with Psalm 82, when they're not speaking of the exact same things, 82 speaking of judgment ON EARTH, and 89 speaking of things 'IN THE CLOUDS." But somehow, Heiser missed that important point. But we can't afford to not see the clear problem with his conflation and ultimate distortion of both texts. You can't do proper exegesis by conflating two passages that don't have anything to do with each other except a similarity of wording regarding a hand-picked translation that translates a Hebrew word as "council" when that word does not carry with it the sense of a "council" meeting but simply a gathering. Otherwise, we should have a "council" of bees in Judges 14:8, where the same Hebrew word for "council" in 82 (but not found in 89) is used of a SWARM of bees. Or is that a "council" of bees? LOL. Then there's the problematic claim that "elohim" is used of other "divine beings" and "disembodied" people. Ok, so was Moses a "divine being" or was he "disembodied" in Exodus 7:1? Or, was the Hebrew word "elohim" also simply used of God's representatives on earth, i.e., judges/rulers as well? There is no getting around this fact. Heiser made up this whole "divine council" theology from doing eisegesis and distorting Scripture, and ignoring points that refuted his views, and calling everyone else wrong. And this is just a small sample of what was wrong with his claims.

How would that work as a correction against the jews? So you think he's now teaching that they all have equal status as "children of God"? So Jesus teaches Oprah Winfrey "we are gods" nonsense? It seems instead, as per usual, he's challenging their double standards. It had become popular in some rabbinical circles to claim this special identity of being special because of being Jewish, rather akin to the US vs them tribal/identity perspective of calvinists, where your salvation is located in identity based election, not faithfulness, love, actually BEING "a good son". So on the one hand they use a double standard, hiding behind their trial identity of being "sons of god" based on race, a kind of liscence, but attacks him for claiming to be son of God. There's a mot and Bailey equivocation here, just like with the woman caught in adaultry, and the question about the woman whose husbands all die. But more importantly, it makes no sense for David to write a psalm about God confronting all judges and prophets and condemning them all to mortality, saying they'll die like men, when not only are they already mortal men, bur this council of condemned prophets doesn't seem to connect to any scripture that depicts this council of condemned prophets. But there's multiple depictions of a kind of court in heaven, am actual collection of beings that he's we have depictions of God arguing with at least 1 of them (Satan in Job), and his condemnation of immortal angels to die like men makes sense.

There we discuss the claims of Heiser and show that he was mistaken about the "divine council," which he essentially stole from liberal scholars and repackaged it for evangelical consumption. And some of us have eaten it up like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. No, it's flawed and Scripture twisting theology that teaches us to distort the Bible.

Bravo! Psalm 82:7 in 'The Scriptures' translation it says 'but as men you die.' That saying means if you want to judge man rightly you have to become a man but as a man you will become mortal and die. That suggest that Yeshua, the son of God used His free will to become the redeemer of mankind so that the Pagans, and the assimilated lost tribes of Israel, will receive the Holy Spirit, their helper to transform human bodies in becoming the Temples of God NOT made by human hands. Jesus is god by the decree of YHWH in verse 6 but He is still the Son of God. The worthy Lamb God gave to be slaughtered for the sins of this world. Hallelujah, praise Hashem almighty Master of the Universe!

There is no such thing as Heiser's divine council of angels, does not exist. The man lead many into beleive something that is not true. Sad so many people view Heiser as if he was infalable. The divine council/gods of Psalm 82 are the chosen people (Jacob's decendents/Israel/Jews). Psalm 82:2-5 The reason of judgement by God to the chosen people (Israel/Jews) 2 “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah 3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” 5 They (Israel/Jews/the chosen people) have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. -Foundations of the earth are shaken is just a figure of speech. ----- God speaking thru the Prophet Asaph is addressing the nation of Israel/Jews/the chosen people, in these passages NOT angels/non human beings. What is going on in the passage is that the nation of Israel/(Jews/the chosen people would have foreigners (people from non Jewish nation) or to call them Gentiles coming into the nation of Israel. ------The Jewish people and even Jewish Elders/Rulers were not living up to taking care of these foreigners. The foreigners probably were in poverty, were poor and needed to be delivered from pagan gods and Idolatry, the nation of Israel was NOT representing the True God. When a person reads Psalm 82: 2 - 5, that makes more sense that the Jews/Israel/the chosen people are being scolded, you see this same theme through out scripture, that they are to take care of the week and the fatherless. -----God is on the side of Justice in defending the weak and fatherless as well as rescueing the weak and needy. You see this same theme in the OT of helping those in need like fatherless children and the widows or women that have lost husband. -----In Psalm 82 God is speaking to the Chosen People (Israel/Jews) and scolding them. God is on the side of Justice. There are 4 different Authors of the OT Moses, Asaph, Isaiah and Zechariah all saying the same thing about giving justice to the weak, the fatherless and the widow. All 4 authors of what they are writing and saying are directed towards the chosen people (Israel/Jews). God/Elohim is on the side of Justice. This also means in Psalm 82 in CONTEXT, that the gods/elohim are the chosen people (Israel/Jews).

Just look up the Hebrew word for "god"(h430) ALL Hebrew scholars EXCEPT heiser plainly tell us this word means "rulers" or judges in THAT PARTICULAR PSALM(82)And The LORD Himself PLAINLY tells us in scripture there are no other Divine Beings--> Isaiah 43:10 KJV - Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

With respect. Our brother Michael, has been corrected on his error of a so called "divine council" many times already. You are just not studying for yourself the text in context. DO NOT ALLOW ANY BRETHREN TO TAKE YOU OUTSIDE OF SCRIPTURE. But very briefly, from a different exegetical view, IT IS LITERALLY, SCRIPTURALLY, GRAMMATICALLY, CONTEXTUALLY, EXEGETICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANGELS TO BE PART OF THIS so called "divine council." Lord Jesus makes this perfectly clear as does the text itself. Please stay with Lord Jesus' word and never go outside the text to rabbis, extra biblical writings, and with preconceived suppositions as our brother Michael did. As well meaning as he was, the word is good for correction, reproof etc. Dear fellow saint, the Lord does not give the Spirit by measure. You have the same fullness of the Spirit as Michael, so when yielding to the Spirit the degrees mean nothing. You can have truth revealed to you the same as any other saint. Angels cannot be any part of a so called "divine council." Why? When angels sin, what happens immediately? What does Lord Jesus tell us happens to them? Heiser has been elevated on a pedestal, in the process, Jesus was knocked off the pedestal. ****I am very familiar with Heiser's contributions and found he was always professional in his critiques of others and never attacked anyone personally. Let’s look at dictionary definiton for the word “pantheon” 1) a group of particularly respected, famous, or important people: somewhat formal : a group of people who are famous or important "the pantheon of the all-time greats" example: a building in which the illustrious dead of a nation are buried or honoured. 2) all the gods of a people or religion collectively: the gods of a particular country or group of people "the deities of the Hindu pantheon" (especially in ancient Greece and Rome) a temple dedicated to all the gods. So with the definition can apply to both 1) people and 2)pagan gods. ****You conviently summed up definition 2, as pagan gods. There are many, many types of pantheons. The pantheon that Heiser spoke of is God's true spiritual family. God has spiritual sons, Son's of our 1 true omnipotent God. What Heiser did when it came to Psalm 82, he applied the pagan god (elohim) meaning to the pantheon, which is the second use of the word pantheon, this is where he error's from the first chapter in his book the unseen realm. What Heiser should have done is apply the “FIRST” meaning of the word pantheon to the gods/elohim in Psalm 82, which would be people. When a person applies the “FIRST” meaning Israel now fits in Psalm 82 as the gods/elohim. Israel is Jacob’s decendents made up of 12 tribes. Psalm 82 is totally about Israel ***My opinion, Psalm 82 happened before God called Abraham, and Jacob had all his children. Israel, the Chosen people had not been created /named yet. It was many years later.(Jacob’s decendents). BTW, Who was God talking with in Genesis 1:26, 11:7 ? Israel is the “Chosen People” of God in that time period, Israel is important because Jesus Christ, the Messiah would come through that people group, Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, Judah is how we get the term “Jew” from. So the pantheon of gods/elohim would be qIsrael all of Israel, which would consist of people that are Judges, Rulers, Kings, Elders and even the common Israelite person.>>"The Chosen People" ***But like mortals you will die. There is another video on this channel interviewing Ronn Johnson...he gives the reason. I would tell you, but you would reject/ignore me. He simply mistranslates the verse. I've been pointing this out ever since UR came out, when MH still worked for Logos.

Heiser actually gives the correct interpretation in the video, then completely ignores it after giving a completely false interpretation that suits his overall argument. Once he and Mackie start trying to defend their interpretation of Jn 10, they both deny fully plausible (and correct) interpretations in favor of their preferred understanding.
