Our tour guide in Israel was a Messianic Jew, and she had a theory that Jesus was forming a new eye from the mud, in the same way that God formed man from the dust of the earth

After watching this, I looked at the episode that Thomas and Ramah asked Jesus for permission and I think his pained look and hesitation was because He knew they would never be married. I may be searching but it was such a heartbroken look

I remember being stunned in the theater with Ramah's death. The theater was silent for some time after it ended. That said, I can think of four plot points used by the death of Ramah. 1. Impact on Thomas leading to some of his issues. 2. Change of Roman authority in Capernaum, freeing Gaius to perform the role we have expected of him for years. 3. Impact on Ramah's father and his influence with the Sanhedrin and the change in mood and a growing desire to have Christ killed. 4. Possibly setting up Matthew 27:52-53. "52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." They could choose random people to rise from the dead, but it would be more impactful if these are characters we know and love.

Just an interesting observation about Quintus, Brandon Potter was interviewed and asked what made him decide to portray Quintus the way he does, since Quintus is a ficticious figure, and he did not have much to go on... He says that he researched the name Quintus and in Latin it means 'Fifth'...therefore a child having this name, would have probably been the fifth child, and not viewed as 'specially important'... Quintus therefore had to know that he had to 'prove his worth', in order to make a successful career, and that turned him into this micromanaging, controlling, domineering overseer...it was literally his 'reputation and success' as someone who could stand out, which was on the line for him... Amazing that Brandon picked up so much from just the NAME of the character!

I have had a teaching on the reason for using spit in this instance, part of the messianic miracles to heal a man blind from birth, but particularly, if I recall, prior to this religious leaders were questioning Jesus' legitimacy of birth (particularly who His father was), and I believe I've been taught that there was perhaps significance in Hebrew culture to believe the first born son had healing powers in saliva. So with the religious leaders to witness Jesus healing with saliva, was another messianic sign that He is indeed a first born son (not illegitimate child as the leaders were trying to suggest).

I liked your analysis at the end. I do think the Thomas and Ramah story was added more for modern audiences. The issue of loosing a loved one is a common theme we can all recognize. The questions that we don't always get the answers to that we want is a common experience among believers. As you said, it draws us into the story. And the disciples (in future episodes) wrestle with similar questions as to the ones we have. Maybe they did not have these exact questions, but they certainly wrestled with human issues common to man.

Earlier in the gospels the word All is used, He healed all who were brought to him on some days, and healed the widow's son of Nain without being asked. This was not every day, and always in submission to the Father. There have been instances of healing in my family, and other times of grief when there was not. Even Lazarus did die- I hope as an old man, but scripture does not say, and the Sanhedrin were after him at the same time as they plotted against Jesus. God alone is on the throne and has the authority over life and death.

Here is what I have an opinion on as to why Jesus made the clay. So far I have peace in my spirit on this possibility. The fact is, the man born blind seemed to be in such a bad way that people questioned the sins of himself or his family as the cause. Blindness was not new, nor was it new to Jesus who had already healed some blind eyes. I believe the man was born without eyes as a whole. Not just blind, but incapable of ever seeing because of the lack of eyes. Jesus, through whom all things are created (Colassians 1) made the clay, which we are made out of and actually formed eyes for the man. This is why this miracle was so big in scripture. This is why pharisees couldn't believe he could have done it without demonic help. This was a creative miracle. Putting physical, seeing eyes, where there were none.

My wife and I personally feel Rhema getting killed was unnecessary, at the same time I get why they are doing this. They’re bringing real life situations, questions and experiences from all believers that may have had been these situations, experiences and have the same questions and bringing them into the show with the disciples at that time to prove that we are all the same and still deal with same issues following Jesus. And also my wife made a very good point that Jesus even said that He didn’t lose one except Judas, but again I get why they did this.

He didnt heal everyone He came in contact with, when He went to the pool, He only healed the 1 guy (z's brother) but left the rest unhealed (historical accounts there were thousands there needing healing. Plus He had to have passed the gate beautiful not healing the lame guy that is later healed in Acts. the hard part about the Rhema scene is the verse that "He healed all who came to Him" and they did depict Thomas going to Him and asking (not to mention ask and you'll receive). I do agree with you about this setting up why Thomas doubted His resurrection so much.

As far as Thomas is concerned.... The Lord's Ways are not our ways, and His Thoughts are higher than our thoughts... In retrospect, we might understand where this is all going...and why Yeshua did not heal Rema... Rema was to honor her father and her mother under the law...and by basically 'running away' with Thomas against her father's wishes... she dishonoured him breaking the fifth commandment...she was no longer under Messiah's protection... This Law has a promise and a penalty..."that your days may be PROLONGED...in the Land God gave you"....the reverse is also true then... If Messiah healed her or brought her back to life, He would have been complicit in dishonoring Rema's father...i.e. He would have encouraged/facilitated/supported her sin... she had to remain dead... As far as the storyline goes... Rema's father might be the main instigator starting the crowd up when Barabbas and Messiah are presented...shouting... "Crucify Him".... because he would have been holding this grudge against Messiah since his daughter's death...

The Chad This brings to mind that Olsteenesque prosperity ministry that misconstrues scripture to imply that wealth, prosperity, and notoriety on earth are things Jesus was teaching for us to have in thislife I am going to comment on this guy's note. First of all, the word prosperity doesn't just speak of money. Prosperity is money, health, well being, peace etc....Why not prosper. If you prosper in many ways, you are able to help others. Also, people should stop judging preachers especially if they have lots of money. And, Jesus started out small and had many followers. These comments just burn me...Just giving my comments

If you want to defend false teachers, and not rebuke them for their misleading of God’s people, then that’s between you and God. But his actions time and time again prove he is far from the heart of Christ, and in a great need to turn away from his ways and turn to the ways of Jesus. Like when the flooding hit the area of his church, and when people were dying around them, looking for a safe refuge from the storm, Joel locked the doors to his worship center because he didn’t want people ruining their new carpet. But the mattress store down the street opened their doors to allow people in need to sleep on their beds on display for safety and a temporary home to provide safety during the storm. Who is the greater example of Christ’s love? The mattress store owner that sacrificed 100s of thousands of dollars worth of product without hesitation to save others, or the millionaire church leader that locked his doors on people in need?

I have no problem with the teaching in itself, but I can't imagine Jesus would have refused to heal his own apostles while he was PHYSICALLY with them. As far as I know, it is not written that he ever did such a thing, so I'm a little worried that these made up stories about Little James and Thomas might create a false image. Matthew wrote that Jesus healed EVERYONE who came to him. His closest people were certainly no exception. EVERYONE means EVERYONE! And the reason his apostles followed him in the first place was because of his miracles and healings (of course his teachings too, but their attention was primarily caught by his miracles/healings). Non-healings happened among the followers of Jesus and are a very different thing and when Jesus was no longer physically present. What if the authors of The Chosen are wrong on this point? Or is there a record somewhere of an apostle that Jesus refused to heal or help while he walked the earth? If not, that is a blasphemous statement. I love The Chosen and I am convinced that they do their best to portray Jesus as realistically as possible, but there is also the divine side of Him that I think is neglected too much, but is just as important. I hope my comment is not deleted immediately. People should be allowed to question things. I am also very happy to be corrected if someone can prove that Jesus did not heal one of the apostles when he walked the earth.
@ongjanette
@ongjanette Күн бұрын
These are not factual bible stories and The Chosen never claims that their storylines are. I believe they created these storylines as teaching moments of the deeper truths of the Bible. The healing or non-healing can be answered by Jesus declaring that he only does the will of the Father. And the will of the Father is to glorify His name, whether that be healing now, or suffering for a season. You know, like, not that the man born blind has sinned or his parents sinned... But that the glory of God may be manifested.
