If the bible isn't true and is mere mythology then it doesn't really matter whether or not Jesus claimed to be God. But Bart and Alex both know deep down that the bible(God's word) is completely true and authoritative. Thus if they can show us that it doesn't support Jesus's divinity then we must accept it for God's word must be accepted. Sadly, this is just a hateful attack on the Son of God. But no one ever had a reason to hate the perfect Christ. As He Himself said "They hated Me without reason." John 15:25

I see no reason why Jesus would not call himself god as going by the verses of the Old Testament the only difference between Adam and god was eternal life, so are we not gods, yes you are (Psalms) and so was Jesus. I think the current fixation for Jesus being god in the church is just theocracy making him the most important sacrifice. So they had to make the trinity etc etc

EHRMAN DENIEES JESUS’ CLAIM TO BE THE SON OF MAN BECAUSE HE KNOWS IT IS A CLAIM TO B GOD By Ehrman’s criterion of DISSIMILARITY, not only is Mark a reliable Gospel but the verses quoted from here are valid because Jesus refers to the son of man in the third person [see Ehrman, “How Jesus became God”, p59, pdf version] Premise 1: The Messiah sits at the right hand of God [Mark 12:35-37] Premise 2: The son of man who comes on the clouds, sits at the right hand of God [Mark 14:62] Conclusion 1: The messiah is the Son of Man who comes with the clouds. Premise 3 (from conclusion 1): The Messiah is Son of man who comes with the clouds. Premise 4: Jesus identifies himself as the Messiah [Mark 14:61-63] Conclusion 2: Jesus, claims to be the Messiah, son of Man, who comes with the clouds. Premise 5: The Son of Man is given worship that is due to only God! [Daniel 7:13-14, the word for worship here is פְלַח [pelach, Strong's number 6399 ] and is used in Daniel ONLY for deity, not persons [compare Daniel 3:14, 3:17] Premise 6: Coming on the clouds is an Old Testament motif applied to only God! [Isaiah 19:1, Psalm 104:3] Premise 7: The son of MAN IN Ezekiel, shares God’s glory [Ezekiel 1:26-28] Premise 8: Ehrman agrees, noting in his book that the Son of Man sits on the throne of God and shares His power! [Ehrman, How Jesus became God, read from p39] Premise 9: God shares His glory with no other being [Isaiah 42:8] Conclusion 3: The Son of Man Equal to God in nature. Premise 10 (from conclusion 3): The son of man is God. Premise 11 (from conclusion 2): Jesus claims to be the Son of man COCLUSION 4: JESUS CLAIMS TO BE GOD!

Real No respect for you... Real those godless alone people are that stupids and do not deserve any kind of respects... They are all here to kiss some godless ass... they should get from the point those godless people who they like to kiss their ass, that they talk always, and are obsessed with something they did not even believe that Atheism is a fraud and a cult... (no respect for their dishonesty to get it). why they do not get it???) But I guess you are a western, always the worst... and now even in Godenier version. No respect for you.... Now, Let's repeat for those godless hipocrite who always spend so much time to talk about the nothing they think they will be once death, and run to kiss someone godless ass, because that is what their new no sense cult "called Atheism" lead those people to do... See those godless rats do the only thing they an do run once they see a godless videos, that what you rats can do when you are lone godless idiot, you have no God and no Community. So many reasons to do not have any respect for you rat Goddenier idiot Here other more enjoy to see how more disgusting and idiot you modern godless idiot are: They are not called atheists but western godless and soulless modern idiots: who is a western godless and soulless idiot a) someone who fallows this new bullshit almost never existed before b) someone who does really believe God to exist cares about his or her opinion c) someone that will believe from now constantly that he will be Nothing once death, poor cursed idiot... D) someone that does not have any kind of Spiritually, (how can can someone without God or soul have any kind of spirituality??? No go no soul no spirituality (why do you even live???) E) someone who will pay afterlife infront God F) someone if he is right mostly he will Be NOTHING once death but if there is God and we are right and his or her heart will stop he will not know what to do once God will ask "why you did not believe in me" (what would you say?) (What a fool) G) someone who will feel strong now to deny God but hopefully he will not need, because if he will get down, depressed, older, alone and closer to death God is only things he get, but he is so stupid to do not get now H) someone who doesn't not even have an actual community I) someone who see atheist on Internet the term atheist and go writing some shit because he got no community... L) someone who deny his creator which we called lier m) a goddenier so a lier by definition... M) is someone who decide to do not have by purpose a sacred things as God and for free (what a poor person!) N) we got what you do not and give us much force and for free. O) someone who have very much few things to believe in. Let's say that if you do not believe in God, what do you believe humans (I believe in Humanity as well, however: wars, genocide, cheating, bad talking, and so on) what hell is left? P) someone that does not God R) therefore if you do not know God or have in your miserable life how can you deny what you do not know?? How to pity those fools and their miserable life to be so???? (No questions as you godless and soulless hipocrite, but actually answer)... Anyway. No respect for you at all. You may not believe now, but you do not know if you will pay this modern idiocy to deny God in future... Wait and see, wait and see, you fool. (So think next time to write certain things or to be a godless and souless idiot, because there is very few things you can lean on)... if we die nothing will happen to us, as wewill nothin as you think we will be, but when your heart will stop, well infront God, when he will ask you why you did not believe in me what would you say??? You are playing with the fire, your problem Godless Fool! Why n yuo want follow only you instincts as f** animals but they change all the time and you as human can get crazy and think killing is God... How to pity your miserable life, you Godless idiot, for real? Only a godless idiot can call God, which is all an imaginary friend, for real you are disgusting. Modernity and its idiots. (by the way this channel is getting more and more ridiculous talking about and be obsessed with something that they do not even believe... Only godless and soulless idiot do not get it, why?)... Hope you will no need God in your life because otherwise you will be fuck* up searching for the nothing you are and you believe in. No respect for you and your family, your mom and father who rise up such godless idiot. Be ready to cry because of God is real you will be fu**d up, and all this for not believe for free and in a simple way. What poor person you are.... Np hope for you and respect for this godless generation hope for the next one to be better then you. (you sand on Nothing, the nothing you think you will be and now cursed to think so constantly, even if you will not admit it). You are just fool yourself, how to pity your miserable godless life? laugh and enjoy the life now, because in the future you will be scared for denying God, your creator... They are alone... Poor modern godless idiot. No pity for them... Their really need to kiss godless people ass .. disgusting human being. that does not make any sense dude. God is all-mighity and all powerful he can see you and can even stop your heart in any moment, so. So think twice before be a godless and souless idiot because the world and God does not go around you and what you think about him. But you want just fool yourself just trust none expet you that are a disgusting godless idiot No respect for you. They really deserve to die alone without God. How can anyone can pity your miserable and godless alone life? No respect for you modern godenier, you do not deserve it... The are fighting against something they can never win, God.... What fool people! The what is so positive to do not have God, Soul (as a freaking robots), an actually community, live and die alone as a godless fool? And why do you always talk about something you do not even believe in (God)? Are you a godless and soulless modern idiot, then live like that, right? You are into a cult where you are alone and you do not even get it. Are you that smart you godless alone idiot? I just have enough with those people and the cult they belong to and the obsession for what they do not even believe, what hipocrites! Their just pathetich alone human being. No pity for them. Of course God made it, who alse your mother made it??? Anyway as always you godless and soulless alone idiots, have nothing to offer to us, to yourself, and to the world. No respect for this godless alone pathetic generation. That how this new Cult "atheism" makes you alone idiot, and with nothing actually to say, because you are based on the nothing you think you will be once death. (but they love to kiss godless ass, they run for it, Disgusting) No respect for you and the family who raised you so stupid and alone... Reallly they have nothing to offer to us, to the world and to themesleves, that stupidity and lonlyness. (this channel is getting more and more ridicolous and who said the opposite is a godless alone hipocrite). we godless and souless modern alone people are obsessed with someone who get riched be obsessed and talking constatlly about somethin he and you do not even believe. You are ridicolous. Another reason to not be like you. Atheism leads to Nothing. No God No Spirituality Not an actually Community Only Loneliness and Obsession for God and what you do not even believe anymore. But yes be disgusting Godless ass kisser... Let me ask some questions (be honest to answer): the first question will be... how does you feel to have less sacred things in your miserable alone godless life then us? And then why are you into a cult that leads to nothing? And why you are a part on something that have nothing to offer to us believers, but loneliness?? and finally how can you deny what you do not know or have in your alone godless life? and why God should care about what you think to exist? Go and be honest once in your life you Goddenier. (Do not write to this message if you actually have nothing to say, as you always godless people do... What waste of lives yours, for real). If you had some dignity you must be ashemed to deny God... But you do not have any, right???

This is pretty insane that part claims that he never claimed to be God, I feel like he should know better according to the source material.. the Sanhedrin literally tore their robes after he said he'd be at the right hand of the father and said what more do you need to hear, crucify him, they knew he was putting himself equal to the Father.

Exactly right - not to mention that this is direct reference to Daniel 7 in which this 'Son of Man' would be in the presence of the Ancient of Days (God) and that He would be worshipped by all nations and languages. Only God is worshipped, hence the Sanhedrin's reaction. When discussing topics like this to a large audience proper Bible study is so important

Jesus already addressed that issue early on in his ministry when he quoted Moses who said “ye are gods.” He understood that we ALL have the spark of the divine. He was just the one sent by God to demonstrate what a fully realized son of God looks like. We ALL have that same potential of self realization since we ALL were created by the same God.

@@WillofGodwhosoever I went to church for 4 years and have either read or heard most of the New Testament. I have nothing but positive things to say about Jesus. If Christians actually did what he asked them to do and lived by his example this world would be a better place. But sadly they don't. And in my experience Christians are more likely to mock Jesus than anyone else, especially with their actions. And the various Church's, for so much of their lifetime, have been the worst offender. And really it's not your place to know where I go when I die. It's just your opinion. And I'm grateful we live in a society where I can agree or disagree. But either way, whatever is in store for me, it's not up for you to know that. But you're kind of presuming if I don't say, believe or think X then God will do Y. But your faith is for you and your soul, not mine. You presume to know my path when you say you have mercy but that's not for you to decide. You can ask God for mercy for yourself but it's not your job to dispense it to others. That is God's. You're supposed to treat others as you would anyone else.

Yes, because he was calling himself the son of God, that's a claim of divinity, not a claim of being God Almighty. You think such concepts were incomprehensible for Jews? One of the earlier titles for their god was literally God of Gods, Elohim; poor translations had made it so that every use of the word "god", be it in Greek or ancient Hebrew, is translated to capital G god, which is incorrect.

@@Durta_idk Most people have heard “Jesus/God loves you”. Does that mean they have a relationship with God and will go to heaven? Depends on the individual. A relationship is 2 sided, you receive love and you give love back. God showed His love by suffering, dying on the cross and rising from the dead for you, now you show Love back by repenting of your sins (lying, stealing, sexual sins, taking the Lord’s Name in vain etc) and believing in Jesus as your Lord and saviour so that Heaven is in your future not hell.

People often say, “I’m not hurting anyone so it’s ok to sin (lying, stealing, sexual sins, disrespecting parents etc)” The same God who said to love your neighbour first said to love Him to the best of your ability. If you carry on sinning, then you do not love God but are selfish like the devil so you will be joined to your father in hell or repent of your sins and believe in Jesus as God so Jesus adopts you as His child and you will join Him in Heaven forever.

@@marcokite I can’t prove God exists, but I can show evidence that He does. Proof is universal and uniform like 2+2=4 or proof that gravity exists. On the other hand, evidence is more personal and is different for each person, what some people consider as evidence others do not. I have received a miracle, seen the supernatural, think its impossible to get something from nothing, see the order in the universe , too many strange things happening like thinking about someone and seeing them shortly after, humans having way more value than animals (the punishment for killing an animal is more severe than killing a dog).seeing all the hate and love Jesus gets and more.

GOD worshipping GOD, makes no sense whatsoever The view that GOD would send Himself as a man on earth, only to deny being Himself, as well as undergo stress, for letting Himself down in obedience, is all so completely silly, that it simply cannot be the concluded as the truth. I mean, in all fairness, the level of contradictions with such a view, prove to be nothing short of insane. And yet, so many people seem driven to put faith in the absurd, and all because degenerate men said so - not Jesus, or any of the approved prophets, but very, very clearly, based on the word and direction of other sinful humans - having no place whatsoever in the written truth of GOD.

Jesus did say He was God in the New Testament. This guy is wrong. The next step is to show you where Jesus says He is God. These are found in the books of Matthew Mark Luke and John. This first one Jesus clearly say He is God. When Jesus was tempted of the devil He tells Him He is God. Luke 4 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. Matthew 4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Jesus did say many times He is God. He also PROVED He was God by doing: miracles to prove He was God. Healing all sicknesses and diseases Raising the dead Walking on water Controlling the wind and the sea Turn water into wine Casting out demons Talking about the future what would happen He multiplied a few fish and a few loaves of bread to feed thousands more thanks once Telling people about their hidden past Forgiving sins While Jesus was alive people around Him addressed Jesus as Lord Jesus talked about heaven and the kingdom of heaven, hell, sin, the commandments, repentance Rising from the dead after three days Luke 2:7 And she (Mary) brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John (John the Baptist). The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Mark 1:3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. John (John the Baptist) did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Ehrman does think through this a lot (I didn't realize that the major instances of Jesus explicitly saying "I'm God" are all (or most) in John for example). However, there is one thing he talks about here that I don't agree with his logic: forgiving the paralytic's sins. When Ehrman is explaining the story, at 8:42, he states that Jesus's enemies are the ones that point out "Only God can forgive sin." Ehrman and then Alex use this later when they bring up John 20:23 when Jesus says "if you forgive then they are forgiven." This story helps their point because they say that priests would say "your sins were forgiven" too, and they were not claiming to be God. Therefore, Jesus is only saying he has more authority than the Pharisees. As it stands, I don't find anything wrong with that argument (I think it's pretty compelling actually). However, there is a detail in that story that both of them leave out: the Pharisees never said "Only God can forgive sin." If you look up the story in all the synoptic gospels (Matthew 9:1-8, Mark 2:1-12, and Luke 5:17-26), they all word this as not something the Pharisees were saying, but something that they were thinking internally. It's something we only know about because the gospels claim that Jesus knew their internal thoughts, and they don't record him telling the crowd what the Pharisees were thinking (Jesus not telling everything to the crowd isn't out of character for him either since the gospels are filled with stories of him explaining stuff to just the disciples after he preached, which leads me to conclude that this detail was something that Jesus explained afterwards to the disciples). If that was the line of thinking of his accusers that led him to do the miracle that shows his authority, I would expect Jesus to make some sort of correction to their logic if they were incorrect; which is absent in the story. If their thought was referring to authority given to priests as representatives of God himself forgiving sin, wouldn't a more direct thought be something along the lines of "doesn't this guy know only people given authority by God can forgive sin?" and not "doesn't this guy know only God himself can forgive sin." This dichotomy, just like with the famous "before Abraham was, I AM", story leads me to think that the Pharisees knew exactly what Jesus was trying to communicate when he told the man "Your sins are forgiven"; that he was in fact God himself, not only just someone with more authority than the Pharisees. To sum it up, to conclude that that story is not Jesus making a claim to divinity is an interpretation that is not supported by the story itself (and, if I may add, Jesus's statement of giving the disciples authority is found in John, the book that Ehrman argues is not reliable to learn about Jesus; I only see room for doubt of the interpretation that its a story of Jesus's claim to divinity if you use that saying in John, but according to Ehrman, we can't use that book).

This is quite compelling, but couldn't one just say that the Pharisees were wrong about who could or couldn't forgive sins?
@jesusbrickfreaklego9388
@jesusbrickfreaklego9388 10 ай бұрын
@@VictorMainaKinuthia That's certainly possible, but one would have to look elsewhere to make that claim that the Pharisees were wrong. If you were to use the rest of the Bible to make that claim, I would argue that the rest of it would support their thought, that only God can forgive sins. At least from the internal source of the religion itself, there is nothing to disprove their thought, but instead, agrees with their sentiment. I'll even go one step further; lets go with the option that Matthew, Mark, and Luke were in fact made up; which means that that authors' are creating Jesus and using stories to describe who this made-up person was supposed to be. This still doesn't change what the most obvious (or at least what I argued above) interpretation would be; it's a story that claims his divinity. If they had free-reign to write whatever they wanted (because we are assuming it's a fictional story) and the point of the story was just to show that Jesus had more authority than the Pharisees without also being God, I would argue it would make more sense to write that the Pharisees' internal (or even something they said out-loud since that probably seems more believable if they were trying to create a lie, at least to me) thought was focused on their authority to forgive sins (or what kind of people were given that authority by God) rather God's authority itself. The fact that the story not only has Jesus not correct or challenge their belief that only God can forgive sins but that these writers would have decided to make that the statement that the Pharisees were thinking of in the first place still leads me to believe that their intention of the story was to show that Jesus was making a claim of divinity. Basically, I'm saying that if this was made up or not, the interpretation that aligns most with the story as it is written is a claim to divinity. (P.S. I know this wasn't necessarily what you were asking/saying, but your question got me thinking more, and I wanted to share)
@VictorMainaKinuthia
@VictorMainaKinuthia 10 ай бұрын
@@jesusbrickfreaklego9388 You make a good point, but we can still support this claim using the content from the Bible. If we're taking Jesus' lack of correction as a metric, we need to remember that the same story is retold in Matthew 9. In verse 8, the crowd is recorded as saying that the authority to forgive sins has been given to human beings. "When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to human beings." Matthew 9:8 (NRSVUE) By your logic, Jesus' lack of correction for the crowd implies that God isn't the only one who can forgive sins, but He has also granted that authority to mankind including "The Son of Man".

The idea that the Jews wanted him killed for blasphemy is a later creation of Roman gentile Christians who wanted to shift the blame for the death of Christ. Jesus was crucified for the crime of attempted treason, for claiming to be the king of the Jews, when the Roman Empire claimed control over Judea. There were definitely Jews who viewed him as blasphemous, but he was brought to Roman authorities under the charge that he would cause another Jewish revolt against the empire, so Rome killed him. Also, we have no works for his original disciples, only from anonymous Greek writers, who obviously plagiarized each other, so no one is saying his disciples were wrong, because we don't even know what they believed.

The event you're referring to is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 26:65, in the New Testament of the Bible. The Jewish leader who tore his clothes in response to Jesus's claim, which he deemed blasphemous, was the high priest named Caiaphas. During Jesus's trial before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council, Jesus indirectly affirmed the high priest’s question about whether He was the Messiah, the Son of God. In response to Jesus’s affirmation, Caiaphas tore his robes and accused Jesus of blasphemy, which under Jewish law was a crime punishable by death. However, because the Jewish leadership did not have the authority to execute someone under Roman rule, they brought Jesus to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, accusing him of claiming to be "King of the Jews" and thus challenging Roman authority. This pivotal moment led to Jesus’s crucifixion, a cornerstone event for Christian faith, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity. The accusation and subsequent handover to the Romans underscore the complex interplay of religious and political tensions present in Jesus’s time.

Jesus was most likely crucified for claiming he was the king or messiah(anointed king) of jews which is blasphemy in a way when the Romans were the king of jews and were the ones anointing the Supervisor supplanting the role of Yahweh. Also crucifixion is about leaving the body to rot for numerous days and allowing insects and scavenging birds to eat the flesh. So Romans would not have allowed the removal of the body after death, so the 3 day resurrection is also a creation of Jews who had lost their power and faith in their own god in face of the Roman Empire.

My father is greater than I, doesn’t mean I’m not human, it means he carries greater authority over me and I submit myself to the will of my father. Likewise, Jesus follows his Father’s will therefore the Father is greater than him in authority. The trinity is coequal and coeternal in nature, however distinct in authority and function. If the Trinity were a triangle the Father would be at the top with the Son and Holy Spirit being lesser in authority. Does this clear it up for you. Why would Jesus have been crucified in an especially drawn out and brutal manner if he never claimed to be God? The written records show, Jesus was found guilty of death for claiming to the Son of GOD and Christ(Messiah) That said, the sentence itself stemmed from the Mosaic Law, stating that anyone who lies in GOD's name shall be put to death - therefore concluding that Jesus was in-fact lying about His identity in GOD's name(YHWH), and was therefore worthy of death as a result.

Correct me if i am wrong in any of what i say. At 9.12, Alex says Jesus sent the disciples in his name before his ascension. That's in John, but they are explicitly referring to the synoptics, so this doesn't make sense. Besides that, Jesus calls them to forgive others the same way he does on the sermon on the mount, so there isn't that same level of authority given to forgive sins, thus not giving them divine status. In Matthew 26:64-66, as many people refer to, the priests tore their robes off at his blasphemy. I couldn't find any other meaning of blasphemy, both greek and english, that didn't refer to misuse of language when coming to God. The 1st century Sanhedrin knew exactly what that meant (he did not deny the title 'Son of God' rather He said they were right in saying this) and so accused him of this. To refer to why he was killed, Bart I'm sure is right. His plaque by the cross read 'King of the Jews'. But the Jews who did not believe in Jesus twisted it to make it sound like He was claiming to be above Caesar, which resulted in death. The Jews still knew exactly what He claimed to be and wanted him dead for that, but couldn't charge him legally (again not 100% sure). Finally, if Jesus was not God, his sacrifice means nothing for the forgivness of sins. If Jesus was a man highly inspired by God (yet still only a man), this means that there was a way to live free of sin. Jesus came because, as Paul said, "All have fallen short" and "the wages of sin is death". Therefore humans simply cannot live the life we are expected, but Jesus came - fully God and fully human - to live a perfect life we cannot attain, and produce a better covanent as Hebrews talks of. Thus before God we stand pure and clean because of Jesus' death and resurrection, and whoever would believe this may have eternal life.

He went further and offered the people 2 options of who to release, Jesus or Barabbas and the people all shouted to crucify Him? Also he, Pontius Pilate wrote a sign saying King of The Jews, in Hebrew, Greek and Latin so that all could see, and the Jewish authorities told him to remove it. If you watch the whole thing he actually speaks about it. And how Pilate becomes less and less guilty for the later sources. The idea being that the "civilized" greeks and romans actually writing the gospels (that were not jews) wanted to blame the uncivilized jews for the death of the son of God, and not the romans, remember that the early spread of christianity focused a lot in spreading to rome and their provinces, which included a lot of the letters in the new testament. Historically, there is no reason to believe Pilate will care at all about not killing jesus. the romans crucified people in the hundreds. They also spoke about some reasons to believe for why Jesus did see himself as the future king of the jews once god came and bring the apocalipse. And at the very least, some people believed he would be the king of the jews. Which gives plenty of reasons for Pilate to kill him. I really recomend watching the whole thing, is very interesting.

1. Every single time Jesus called Himself the “Son of Man.” The Pharisees sentenced Jesus to death for blasphemy due to Him using this title. Why? Because it’s a reference to the divine figure seen in the book of Daniel, chapter 7. We know this vision is exactly what Jesus intended to bring to mind when He used that title because at his trial he referenced this vision. “Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?”“I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”At this, the high priest tore his clothes and declared, “Why do we need any more witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What is your verdict?” “And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Jesus is claiming to be the son of man who sits at the right hand of power The son of man is given dominion(everlasting), glory, kingdom(shall not be destroyed), “that all people, nations, language, should serve him” “But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭7‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬ The “saints of the most high”, who is the most “high”? “until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭7‬:‭22‬ ‭KJV‬‬ “Judgement was given to the saints of the most high” "Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?" "Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth." Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. " I WILL RAISE IT UP" “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live. Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die” why would God allow this even knowing that it would lead to confusion amongst the church and even scholars and atheists is God not powerful enough to put on human flesh and reveal himself by coming down to his own construct? Since God is spirit therefore unseen what is illogical about Jesus being "the image of the invisible God"

The cannon of Catholicism was laid out by Constantine through the Council of Nycaea in 325 AD. At this time Jesus became a demi-god by concious choice. His divinity and other amalgamations of existent popular mythology were accreted to his legend in order to make it more popular with the pagan Roman world.

@@tylerda282 lol, right, not wrong. All modern Christian theology considers Jesus of Nazareth as a quasi-demigod. They just differ in doctrinal obscurities. The Nicene Creed (codified during the first Council of Nicaea) was adopted in opposition to Arianism, which considered Jesus subordinate to God, but still divine, whereas the Nicene creed and what would become 'mainstream' Christianity saw Jesus as an equal extension of God along with the 'Holy Spirit', thus canonizing the tri-part godhead. Both still consider Jesus as a demi-god, which was a later invention of early Christianity and most likely an absorption of previous pagan mythology stories such as that of Hercules as son of Zeus. The idea of Jesus as the son of God made Christianity more palatable to the pagan world, where these demi-god stories were prolific, and it was a conscious choice to canonize this for Jesus in Christianity.

@@joshuaf.3723 Yeah however this belief was rejected by the council . Also the trinitarian belief of the father , son and holy spirit as co equal actually existed before the Nicene Creed as documented by Origen of Alexandria who stated “Moreover, nothing in the Trinity can be called greater or less, since the fountain of divinity alone contains all things by His word and reason, and by the Spirit of His mouth sanctifies all things which are worthy of sanctification . . . ” . The Canonization took place in 325 but belief of the trinity in its oneness existed before this actual event.

the romans spoke Greek because Greek was the lingua franca of the roman empire supposedly but nothing can be known of the past. There is simply no way of knowing who spoke what when and where nor how many. You may guess and believe but not know - directly immediately personally experience anything about the past, because the past cannot be verified. He did actions not only the fulfill messianic prophecies (as Matthew is keen at pointing out) but also actions only God can do (forgiving Sins, making new commandments, removing old commandments, declaring Himself to be the Temple aka God presence with His people. He is called Emmanuel (God with us). He is worshipped without rebuking the worshipper in contrast to Angels or prophets would do not receive worship and rebuke those who attempt to worship them. The case is so robust that to deny the Gospels implications of Jesus’s deity is like winning on a technicality.

"He's actually not crucified for calling himself God. His divine claims actually have no relation to any of the crucifixion narratives." Sorry? 'Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. “You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” (Mark 14:61-64) I'm sure Bart Ehrman knows these verses from Mark's gospel (which he acknowledges is probably the earliest gospel). What is Jesus saying here? Here's using the self-designation he most often uses for himself and taking it right back to where it comes from - Daniel 7:13-14. The one who (remarkably in the Jewish Scriptures) is described as 'like a son of man' and yet comes as God does (on the clouds of heavens), to whom God gives authority and glory (and God does not give his glory "to another") and who is worshipped (despite God being the only one who is to be worshipped). And Jesus before the high priest not only admits to being 'the Son of the Blessed One' but takes up the language of Daniel which speaks of him being worshipped alongside God. What's the high priest's response? - 'You have heard the blasphemy.' The High Priest understands exactly the claim that Jesus is making - and denounces it as blasphemy. It's a claim to divinity and that's exactly how it's understood by the listeners. (And it's there in very similar terms in both Matthew and Luke - with the same reaction from the Jewish leaders). Now, Bart Erhman IS right that the charge that Pontius Pilate is considering it that Jesus is the King of the Jews. It's there in all three synoptics but made most explicit in Luke - who records what the Jews say when they take Jesus to Pilate: "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king." (LUke 23:2). Why's that? Because Pilate won't care about their Jewish scruples about blasphemy, but he will care if someone is setting himself up as a king in opposition to Caesar - that's what will get you killed under a Roman governor (and the Jews know it!). That's why the Jews play the system and change the charge from blasphemy to sedition. That's what will get you crucified. Actually, Bart Ehrman is wrong again saying that Pilate kills him for claiming to be king of the Jews (though he is right in saying that's a political claim). PIlate can see through it all - all four gospels tell us the same thing: that Pilate can see Jesus' innocence and doesn't consider him guilty of any crime. He knows the Jews have handed Jesus over because of envy, but eventually caves in to the crowd. (It may well be that his own political situation was precarious at this time due to the political situation in Rome with his supporter Sejanus having recently fallen out of favour with Tiberius - and he therefore wanted to avoid open conflict with the Jews.). So it was precisely Jesus' claim to be God that got him killed. Bart also doesn't really seem to have fully addressed the fact that in Mark 2 the religious leaders DO clearly see Jesus' claims as blasphemous - and Jesus doesn't tell them, 'no, no - I wasn't really claiming to be God there' Just the opposite in fact. Oh, and Mark also tells us in the same narrative, "Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts." And what would Mark, a good Jew, know? "Yahweh knows the thoughts of man." (Psalm 94:11) Oh, and a couple of chapters later, Mark records Jesus calming a storm with his words. And his disciples (in the boat with him at the time): "They were terrified and asked each other, 'Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" (4:41) - Actually, they know who stills storms - Yahweh again (Psalm 107:29). I could go on (has power over death, calls himself Lord of the Sabbath, creates matter, is called 'my Son' by a voice from heaven, calls himself the son of the vineyard owner (ie God) - and this is all in Mark's gospel, not John's).

I don’y understand why so many people think the argument of “Jesus never claimed he was God” holds any water or is effective at scrutinizing Christian claims. Jesus did not need to say to his followers “I am God, the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity, eternally begotten by the Father” and have that quoted verbatim in the Gospels (which skeptics dismiss as unreliable sources anyways, so it wouldn’t matter even if that was recorded). -Jesus does reference his divine identity across the Synoptics, and additionally claims the authority to do things that the Jews typically relegated to the authority of God. -Jesus does not correct anyone who calls him God, nor those who treat him like he is God -the demons in the Gospels recognize him as God (who, as preternatural creatures who know God but hate him, ought to know a thing or two) -Anyone can claim to be God, just go to any psych ward. The difference is that Jesus shows his divinity through his actions before revealing his identity with words. -the fact that the earliest Christian writers of the first and second centuries had to combat the heresies of Docetism (which claimed Jesus wasn’t human), attests historically to the fact that the disciples (people who knew Jesus and knew the people who knew him) and the first generations of Christians already believed de facto that Jesus was God and took that position for granted a priori.

"Jesus did not need to say to his followers... [I am God]" If he didn't need to say it, then it's weird that the Christian church decided to explicitly claim, from the Nicene Creed onwards, that Jesus is God front and center making it well nigh impossible for anyone to misinterpret or misunderstand the claim.

Jesus did say He was God. this guys lying And he did say it in Matthew and Luke. This is just ONE example.

We read in Mal.3:1: “Behold, I will send MY MESSENGER, and he shall prepare the way BEFORE ME: and THE LORD, WHOM YOU SEEK, SHALL SUDDENLY COME TO ***HIS*** TEMPLE, even the MESSENGER OF THE COVENANT, whom you delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.” Lets break this down and make it perfectly clear...... "Behold I *_(God)_* will send my messenger (??????) and he shall prepare the way before me *_(God)_* : Who was sending the messenger?...... It was *_God_* The messenger was to prepare the way for who? .......for *_God_* So *_God_* ...... sent (somebody) to prepare the way for *_God .... HIMSELF..._* and the Lord *_(God)_* , whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his *_(God's)_* temple, even the messenger of the covenant *_( the law of Moses)_* , whom you delight in: behold, he *_(God)_* shall come, saith the Lord *_(God)_* of hosts. In the passage above Malachi speaks of a messenger one that will prepare the way for the Lord, this is none other than John the Baptizer who is foretold in Isa.40:3-4. He is....... “The voice crying out in the wilderness: prepare the way of the *_Lord_* ; make straight in the desert a highway for *_OUR GOD_* .” Mt. 11:10 quotes this as a confirmation of John the Baptizer as the one who will introduce the *_LORD_* and *_OUR GOD_* . “For this is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.' So..... Who was the one that came after John the Baptizer? It was JESUS. But wait....According to Malachi the one that comes after John the Baptizer is the same one that made the covenant with Moses.... How can this be? Was it not God that made the covenant with Moses? Yes it was.....But it was Jesus that came after John the Baptizer and not God?.... Could Malachi be wrong? ....Or is it simply that God himself did actually come to the earth and visit his temple as Jesus right after John the Baptizer did. Exactly as Malachi said he would... Notice that Malachi tells us that the Lord himself, the one who made the covenant with Israel in the Old Testament will come to visit his temple personally and they will "BEHOLD" him *_(they would see him)_* ..... They would see who? They would see the one that made covenant with Israel. *>>>> "GOD"

Your dedication to studying the Bible with thoughtfulness and logic is admirable. I suggest you further this journey by delving into the Quran. There, you'll discover intriguing chapters about Mary and Jesus, especially where Jesus explains his teachings on worship. Such study could broaden your perspective and deepen your understanding. Remember to approach this exploration with an open and humble heart. In seeking truth, guidance is invaluable. Should you choose not to engage with the Quran, it's important to reflect on the broader implications of rejecting different perspectives, much like some historical instances where new teachings were dismissed. "Well, who's given him the authority? God has." This is not a trinitarian position. Combined with a literalist interpretation of the Bible, of course it would be implausible to understand Jesus as a man and the Logos simultaneously. The Christian religion is not a purely Jewish construct. It is mainly a trinitarian Platonic-Jewish synthesis, which Christians regard as the historical event that matters most, not the gospels in isolation. The orthodox perspective has always been that Jesus is of the divine substance, and a man, unified as one person, and in each inseparable abstract category from that point on, there is an internal dialogue within the God-man union between the Son and the Father and, later, the Holy Spirit to complete the trinity. Thus, Jesus can say the Father gave me power to do this or that without separating himself from the same substance, in the exact same manner of speech that an atheist like Alex can say, "Somebody passed me the salt", while absolutely maintaining that the somebody, Alex himself, and even the salt, are all made of one and the same substance, according to the modern monist ontology (regardless of the inherent contradiction) -- which is what 99% of English speaking atheists think they subscribe to. The missing context in these anachronistic as well as false purely historical interpretations of these texts is the entire philosophical revolution that was sweeping through the Mediterranean world at that time. No Platonic philosophy, no Bible compiled as such, no oral tradition that selected and interpreted the present books as a trinitarian, evolutionary conception of God. Baked into the historical event of compiling the Bible in the first place was the oral and presumably fragmentary written tradition that coalesced around the Christ concept long after the historical events, and that poses no serious chalkenge to traditional Christianity because they regard that development as guided by the Holy Spirit. I'm afraid applying historical rigor and a fundamentalist interpretive mode to a set of documents separately, that are only preserved together in the first place because they were designed to show a particular ontological progression through centuries, is a false start and in itself inherently an anachronistic approach to the construction of the Bible and the rationale behind choosing the canon. It's a bit like saying there's absolutely no evidence Darein believed in evolution because a detailed reading of his and contemporary texts show no understanding whatsoever of DNA and generics. Well, there are historical events that instaurate subdtantove movements that are predictable from the accepted ontology, such that Darwin's work was a necessary condition for the construction of the modern synthesis that still bears his name. Such a relationship between Jesus and the concept of Christ is all that's necessary for traditional Christians to regard that theological development as guided, or inspired, by the third person of the trinity. Other supports include mainly the pragmatic considerations, like whether the narrative is psychologically and socially and politically useful, and one can point to the western university system, organized charity, et al, as evidence of the divine guiding the system. The Bible is a chronology of a particular faith's effect on a society and the intellect over time, not a bundle of indirect evidence sources intended for snapshot judgements about its historicity. It is only in the organized extra-Biblical tradition that created the Bible that the Bible has any context whatsoever. And to grab the bull by the horns, Jesus is precisely inviting disciples to each become temples of the Holy Spirit in a sort of lesser hypostatic union that does not combine their identities. Nonetheless, the entire salvific purpose of, knowledge of, and human participation in, the divine trinity, is to make ideally all human beings like gods (little g, i.e. alike in perhaps all things but contingency, ultimately). Only the more recent protestant tradition eschews this radical type of evolutionary theology in favor of a reversion to a Judaic pre-Christian strict and comprehensive separation of God and creation, so that it would not make sense for Jesus to give his disciples the power to forgive sins, nor would medieval saint cults (which were quite licit to traditional Christians) make any sense. And, of course, modern mainstream Judaism, and, especially, Islam, take the absolute separateness of the divine and creation to its furthest limit, culminating, in my view, an easy logical progression to monism, however paradoxically. Because an absolutely distant God that nonetheless makes absolutely everything move, is an absolutely unnecessary God, and the telos of man becomes entirely arbitrary, as is absolute universal will without meaning, beyond reach. And you're a hair's width away from monism and ontological nihilism. One can clearly see these historico-ontological roots of all present ideologies.

@@EnglishMike You are missing a huge chunk of philosophical/theological/logical history. Both the Jews and the Platonists of that era understood trinitarian logic as essential to deduction. Julian the Apostate covers this well, representing the Athenian School, as well as Rabbi Akiva. Apart from that, it's almost certain the authors of the gospels found trinitarian isomorphism in the Christological formula: Father-Son-and the Spirit in Man as the salvific principle, to say nothing of Jesus describing himself as in the Father and vice versa, and that a new spirit will generate a third principle such that the Father will be in the Son and vice versa, and the Spirit within Christians will be in the Son, etc. As far as the development of the trinitarian doctrine goes, what you said is what I wrote.

The other option is that even if he did say " I am the way the life and the truth", this could be the equivalent of Al-Hallaj the Sufi saying " Ana Al-Haqq", in other words he perceived himself to be in communion with God. Similar comments have been made throughout Christian history as can be shown from quotations from Evelyn Underhill's classic work on mysticism. Incidentally, this was Florence Nightingale's understanding of such verses.

I’ve never understood Bart’s argument here. In Mathew it says, "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. Added to this The religious leaders of the time push for Jesus death continually accusing him of blasphemy. They hate him healing on a Sabbath but Jesus makes it clear he has the right as He is Lord of the Sabbath. He makes the same claim in Mark 14. Then read about John the Baptist’s response to Jesus. He was preparing the way for him. I just don’t get this argument

Ehrman's right that only the Gospel of John has Jesus claiming himself to be God, but the other sources do have him claiming some divinity (though not on full equality with God). Jesus notes himself as the "Son of God", which is either taken literally (as with most Christians) or taken just as a symbol of praise. If we accept the second thesis, then Peter, Mark, and Matthew should also be called "Sons of God", but obviously the title's meaning for Jesus is distinguished from the title's meaning for anyone else. Jesus explicitly claims Godhood in John, but claims some loosely-construed form of divinity in the other Gospels while even submitting to God in the personhood of the Father. Since Christians are not polytheists and affirm the existence of only one God, there cannot be some "lesser" form of divinity in Christian doctrine but only a single divinity, so it makes sense to simply state Jesus was "God", which Paul elaborates on in Philippians 2:6. The understanding of Jesus as completely equal to the Father is a misrepresentation of Trinitarian dogma. Trinitarians believe that Jesus had divinity, the Father had divinity, and the Holy Spirit had divinity. There only exists one divinity since God is one, so Jesus' divinity is equal to the Father's divinity. Yet Jesus still submits himself to the Father on basis of his human nature, so Jesus is also subordinate to the Father. Trinitarians don't claim to know how specifically this subordination happens, but it's logical to call Jesus God if he claims any form of divinity at all, even if it isn't direct Godhood, otherwise Trinitarians would be polytheistic.

Read the epistles. Php. 2; Titus. Etc. Jesus before the Sanhedrin in the gospels. Mk. 2 - Being Lord of the Sabbath. Lk. 7 - forgiving sins. (The reaction of those present - who can forgive sins except God). Try to understand that Jesus was accused of claiming to be God which His accussers said is blasphemy. They, in His time, understood what He was saying. Why don't you ❓

Since the original of bible is not English, it is quite possible that “son” and “father” were incorrect translations.

@@osman7900 If I recall correctly, terms like "Son of Man" are best understood in their meaning when cross-referenced with other parts of the Bible, specifically, the Old Testament, which talk about these terms in a bit more detail. It does not simply imply prophethood or being the messiah, it implies something deeper in the Old Testament.

@@ArthurWuYeah211 even within the Old Testament, the word that is translated as “son” may actually have different meanings in different contexts. In addition, considering that the original languages of the Old Testament and the New Testament are different, I am not sure how reliable cross-referencing those terms can be. I am kind of pre-opinionated regarding this issue. No offence intended.

@@osman7900 No worries about offence, we are all trying to reach the truth in the best way we can. Thanks for the conversation. While the languages used was different (Hebrew vs Aramaic and Koine Greek), the authors of the New Testament were intentional about cross-referencing what they referred to as the scriptures in their revelations. So even though there is a language barrier, in my view it is reasonable to assume that cross-references mean a similar thing.

Yes, an excellent proof is found in Philippians 2:5-11 where we are told that Jesus, in the form of man, was in submission to the Father as He humbled Himself for the purpose of becoming the Sacrificial Lamb for the sins of mankind..
