Hey Guys, After we recorded this video, we learned there was more of a public outcry regarding the black-fishing shown in Jesy’s MV than we realized. We briefly touched upon our opinions in this reaction but if you guys would be interested in us creating video discussing the racial controversy give this comment a thumbs up!

The whole blackfishing controversy isn’t something new when it comes to Jesy. It’s been something that fans have called her out on for years now, it’s something that Leigh Anne also brought to Jesys attention (to be careful of how aggressive her tanning has become bc of how it might be perceived). Nicki recently went on IG live with Jesy and tore into Leigh and the girls, claiming that they were jealous of Jesy and just wanted a solo career (which is untrue bc the girls have always been super supportive of her). Leigh-Anne has a documentary out on her experiences with racial issues and colorism within the music industry where she talks about her experience as a woman of color in the industry who has faced racism and hate. In my opinion, it’s important to note that Jesy claims to love black music and culture (hence the direction of the video) but she never publicly supported Leigh Anne’s documentary and when asked about if she talked with Leigh about the racism she faced, she simply responded that Leigh dealt with it (hate) better and didn’t talk to her personally about her experience as a woc. Side note: mixers are very unhappy with Nicki because of how she inserted herself in the drama, how she tore into the girls and Leigh, and how she tried to dismiss the valid concerns and criticisms as nothing but hate and jealousy. I’d love to hear your thoughts about the whole situation if you chose to learn more about it.

Jesy missed the mark with this one she needs to find the right lane for her and not blur the lines as she is a white woman who is now trying to appeal to a black American audience so there’s ways to appreciate and use influence of black artists in your music without altering her appearance physically but yes sonically I loved it so yes I’ll be keeping an eye out for what she does next.

If you are gonna talk about Jesy then please give your thoughts on Ariana who I know you Stan. She tans just as aggressively and her music is even more 'urban' than this. And the people claiming "Ariana has learned and apologized" are full of it because she still tans and put out a fake ass apology the same way Jesy's team has. I understand Jesy saying she was “influenced and grew up” on black culture and black artists but that doesn’t translate to her using said black culture as a prop, being influenced by an artist means you aspire to be like them, not be them. And the fact that she didn’t uttered a word during the BLM movement nor did she support Leigh on her docu (when she was STILL in the band) and then she goes and does this mv is the most dumb thing shes done. The thing is that Jesy’s been this dark for 11 years now. If you look at her on the xfactor she had the same tan, and she was even darker last year, so technically she’s toned it down quite a bit. But I see where people are coming from when they say that she looks racially ambiguous. What I don’t get is why no one around Jesy thought it wasn’t okay, like her stylist is black, her choreographer was black, Nicki and diddys co-sign, so many of the dancers, her friends etc… they all encouraged it and said it was okay so that’s weird to me. She defo hasnt been this dark for years the first few years of LM she was a little tanned never this crazy. In 2018/2019 it got to the point where she was darker than leigh and now it's got crazier

I think that’s a complicated issue, since she is just one of those people who naturally tans quite dark. She said she spent three weeks in Antigua prior to filming the music video. That being said, I’ve always thought her to look ethnically ambiguous even without a tan, like she’s got some Spanish in her or something. The music video itself is an obvious homeage to the original Diddy video though, but I get why it might come off as quite a lot.

I think there is a way of paying homage to and being inspired whilst owning your own heritage. The problem here is as the ladies stated is the layering of everything. The inspiration from Black American culture, the tanning, the hair, the grills etc. I think if you look at artists like JoJo who is a white woman who also loves RnB when you watch her, there is no confusion as to the fact that she is a white woman doing RnB. As a black person we are so used to the appropriation of black culture that at some point it becomes tiresome and there are other culprits I just think Jesy is taking the hit for a wider issue.
