he may have to do some center of pressure, center of lift calculations before attempting a big climb, the current config does what he want's from the setup now, but a lot of testing is gonna have to be done with someone with an aeronautical design background.. remember as speeds/weights, and AOA increase/ decrease it has an effect on the air frame.. they may have to close that gap between thrust and lift before attempting serious altitude.. it's ok with the weight on the back (on calm days), but dealing with thermals and high winds well probably see the engine mounted above the wing.. about 1/4 down the chord, and a small fuel pump added.. maybe a small vert stab as well .. will be interesting to see what they come up with..
@stewedapple4 жыл бұрын
Great for taking off from a flat area, getting altitude and then shutting the engine down. Perhaps the same could be done with a ducted fan, with just enough battery to get up to height with a little in reserve. My biggest fears from the jet engine would be a fire starting under the engine and the engine stopping for some reason. I have a feeling your powered hang glider will become a common thing in the future.

I fly river beds like that with a gyrocopter so I know that ground effect buzz. I expected them to end up with it on that tail boom of the glider! It just seems like it would be better to have the thrust on the wing centerline than waving around behind your body but I have never flown any type of weight shift craft.
@MatjazKlemencic Жыл бұрын
We thought about that, but in the end, with thrust on the wing and weight shift below, you quickly end up with the wing going in front. This would bring very strange sensations. Our setup is well-tested and provided a safe and joyful ride.

@Halli504 жыл бұрын
In hindsight my comment was incorrect. In the early days of hang glider towing the towline was connected to the glider structure, which could overcome the pilot command inputs (lockout). By attaching the towline to the pilot harness this problem was overcome (they figured this out after I stopped flying hang gliders regularly so I have no practical experience with this and thus did not think of it). It is obviously OK to have the thrust line at the pilot's low position.

Great work Matjaz. Can I make a suggestion? Mount the jet on the boom but make the mount for the jet able to change its pitch as thrust increases. At full thrust the engine pitches slightly downward to compensate for the downward thrust quotient. That way you overcome the thrust/pitch problem and the awkward harness / jet set up.

How fuel efficient is the jet engine and what range can you get with it and with how much fuel? Jet engines are inefficient especially small ones but you were flying low with ground effect to compensate! Also what type of hang glider is this that is suitable for the jet engine? What criteria does it have to be suitable? Wingspan? Also what was the total cost to build this jet glider?
@MatjazKlemencic5 жыл бұрын
Hi, it is mostly all explained in the video :) 9 L per minute, no special wing, it is my hang glider for free-flying with no engine. Cost, with that wing and this jet (17.000)
@thedronehorseman47135 жыл бұрын
Matjaz Klemencic the engine is $2000 so does that mean the glider is $15,000? That’s a very expensive glider! What range can you get burning 9L per minute? How many L can you carry? (In the video you said you carry 10L that can last 8minutes but you just said 9L/min so which one is correct?) the burn rate be reduced if you fly close to the ground to use ground effect to create more lift so you burn less than 9L/min? Lastly do you happen to know the power range by the engine? 20-30 horsepower? How much KW or HP do you need to stay airborne if flying low? And how much is the maximum power?
