Join me for a day in the life as an ALT in Kobe! First, I give a brief walk and talk tour of my elementary school. Then, I have the chance to interview my English teacher and ask him some questions about Japan. Lastly, I show you my commute and the gym I go to everyday. I wanted to make this video so that I can look back on my time after Japan and remember my school and my commute. Cheers world!

Hey man, love the videos!-Did you happen select Kobe as one of your placement requests on your application? I’m applying for JET at the moment, but don’t really have a strong preference for a particular city. Was thinking about leaving my preferences blank… Not sure if that means they would just assign me to a “less desired” location by other JETs, or if it would be somewhere based on other criteria, such as my hometown’s sister city, experience teaching etc

Sorry for the late reply! I listed the Kansai area as my preference and then ended up getting placed in Kobe. Anywhere on JET is gonna be unique and a great experience nonetheless. Best of luck with the application!

such an awesome video, you gained a sub! my one question is when you apply for the JET program and/or get accepted is there a way that you can teach for ONLY one year before returning? i would love to teach in japan but for no more than 2 years and i don’t know if that will lower my chances or not.. anyways great video!:)

Yes definitely can! It ranges from 1-5 years generally speaking so you can most definitely come have a wild year and go back! I've had a blast on JET and know lots of folks only doing a year. Best of luck!!

Just discovered your channel, really enjoying your videos! How did you end up in Kobe with Jet, did you request the location or was it randomly assigned?
@fradysfilms
@fradysfilms 10 ай бұрын
For JET Program they assign you to a location and then you are placed with the local Board of Education! JET is really interesting because different places are handled differently regarding housing/schools etc. Kobe has been a great place for me though!

How long did it take you to get good at Japanese enough to be able to live in Japan and teach English ?
@fradysfilms
@fradysfilms Жыл бұрын
I studied for about 2 years pretty aggressively before I came. Definitely helped to have a solid backbone of the language prior to moving here. However, interestingly enough the JET Program actually requires no japanese ability to be accepted!

This was a really cool video, I can’t believe that teacher lived in the US for so long. Why did he come back? Also I never see a gym that empty lol that looks great. Do the teachers ever get together outside of work for drinks or anything?
@fradysfilms
@fradysfilms Жыл бұрын
Prior to corona there was a big scene for teachers going out and drinking but there's not as much of that now unfortunately (that I've been a part of at least) His parents weren't in great health so he chose to move closer to help take care of them! Thanks for watching :)

Japanese get teacher’s licences for life, irrespective of whether they use them or not - thus, an easy return for Inoue-san

Don't you have to work overtime much at your school?
@fradysfilms
@fradysfilms Жыл бұрын
Fortunately with the JET Program we have set hours fron 8:30-4:15 pm. Some JETs choose to stay later but for me, as we aren't paid for overtime, I almost leave exactly at 4:15 everyday! However, lots of people work overtime in Japan!
