I had the game on the ZX Spectrum, and yes, I remember for example, the sunlight on the beach level (which was never there), the details in the enemies (which isn't there either), and the haunting tune (which is really just a very basic beep fest). I suppose the reason we remember the game being so different is a combination of how deeply immersed in the game we were, how well the graphics were designed within such tight technical limitations and how they would allow our imaginations to unconsciously see details that weren't really there, and the fact that back then we just enjoyed the games and didn't obsess over frame-rates or upcoming DLC or the politics and beliefs of the people who made the games. Back then we just enjoyed the games, and our youthful minds enhanced the 'magic', somehow. Nowadays we are too old, too jaded, and modern graphics are too good to cause our imaginations to conjure up non-existent details. The 1980s were a brilliant time to be growing up and playing video games.

@@ConkerTS lmao So true!! Especially about the sound. My memory of the music compared to the actual music I'm listening to now makes me think I was listening to a different version of the game lol. Let's face it, human memory is not reliable, especially when it's clouded by many years worth of nostalgia.

This is impressive , I could never pass some levels , it is known that the original game came out with several bugs in some levels that it was impossible to finish the game , said by the creator in the lemon64 forum , but he did not want to tell more about what happened , then Corrected versions came out.
@ConkerTS6 ай бұрын
I didn't know that the C64 version was bugged, or impossible to complete. The ZX Spectrum version was unable to be completed, due to several bugs (including one that made the game almost unplayable, you have to turn off the Spectrum, and reload the game if you wanted to properly play it after the bug was triggered). Software Projects (the game's publisher) initially tried to write off the reports of the bugs in the Spectrum version, claiming it was a deliberate 'feature' that made the game harder to play, for expert players to enjoy! And it was a member of the public, a player of the game, who worked out how to fix the bugs. Not Software Projects themselves.

I see You play modified version which I was cooperaring to make many years ago on Lemon c64 forum. Rooms like: Vine cellar or Inside The Mega Tree and 2 more were impossible to walktrough. There was no way to get back from The Mega Tree until we made additional platform. Nice gamę by the way. That game changed my life: I knew I will be a gamer.

This was a much better platform game than Brian Bloodaxe, less frustrating than Thing on a spring, and almost as difficult as Monty on the run. Not forgetting the wicked hard Cauldron and Cauldron 2 in my list of platform games played.

Does the C64 version have The Attic bug?
@andyhodgson76923 жыл бұрын
I've just looked that up on Wikipedia. It says that the original BBC micro and Commodore 64 versions also have bugs that make them impossible to complete but they were different to the bugs in the Spectrum version. On the Commodore 64 it was impossible to collect all the items in the wine cellar. I presume that anyone who's completed it is playing a version where the bug is fixed.
@or99273 жыл бұрын
@@andyhodgson7692 Different bugs, oh, I didn't expect that. Thank you! I should have checked Wikipedia. Yes, as there doesn't seem to be an in-game workaround to the bugs, I would also presume the playthroughs on KZbin have the essential ones fixed.
@CitroenC4072 жыл бұрын
@@andyhodgson7692 yes Willy didn't jump far enough to the left in the original C64 release. His right jump was a pixel or so longer than his left jump, which made traversing to the items at the left of the wine cellar impossible as they were always too far away for Willy to make the jump. This version here must be the fixed version, which would make sense since as you say, it was impossible to beat the original version.
@Mayhemerz8 ай бұрын
I don’t believe the jump to the left was fixed. Instead the platforms in the Wine Cellar were made slightly longer instead so you could get to them

@@Mayhemerzwhich was just the Amstrad CPC conversion of JSW1 from the Spectrum with added rooms then ported back as JSW2 on the Spectrum. I think it addresses some of the bugs in the original game as well.
