Great build Mathew, definitely going to be doing this on my jetski. I watched a couple other of your videos to see how it did on the water and you seem like a good man and father. Keep it up 👍

Thank you very much Cody. You will like the build. I had too much stuff in my truck coming back from Beaver Lake so the rod rack had to ride on the back of the Jet Ski all the way to Oklahoma at 70 mph. Zero problems, it was still rock solid when I got home.

Great set up. What keeps the rods from flying out when you're hitting rough water? I'm trying to concoct a similar plan, but I'm paranoid that I'm going to lose an expensive fishing pole!
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 Жыл бұрын
Good question. Answer is nothing, Lol. But, I do often leash them just in case. I've never had a rod bounce out even in the rough seas going 8 miles offshore and around Horn Island down in Mississippi. Those were rough conditions going over there and the chop jarred my soul.

Hey if you don't mind..... How did it hold up in rough chop???
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66432 жыл бұрын
It is rock solid. I used basic cam buckle tie down straps on each side. one end connects to the U bolts on the back of the PWC and the other ends attach to built in cleats on the side. I just drone filmed my daughter cutting doughnuts yesterday on it. she had a large tackle box in place of the ice chest and three of my saltwater rods in the rod holders. I was cringing every minute, but every piece of gear stayed in place along with the rod rack.

Hi Matt, Do you have updated pictures and detailed plans for this rod and cooler rack? I have the exact same jet ski and we're going diving this weekend. I would love to make one of these rather quickly for our 25 quart Igloo. Thanks man. Thanks for posting.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason. I just recently used the rack on my latest video. Alexis and I went offshore around Horn Island with the rack holding an ice chest and two rods. It worked flawlessly. I don't have any detailed plans because each persons ice chest and specific needs will be a little different than mine. The best way is to pick an ice chest that will fit well on the back of the Jet Ski then just build a PVC frame around it. Spend a little time thinking on it before you cut your PVC and also dry fit everything together before you start gluing. If you are planning on hauling scuba tanks back there, you will need to put some PVC pipe dividers using "T" joints. I recommend having your BCD attached to the tanks with some air in the BCD. Just in case a tank goes overboard. At least it will be floating on the surface.

Great job. I was wondering what size pvc you used. Thanks
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66432 жыл бұрын
At 5:35 I froze the frame and it shows to be 1 inch PVC. But, that's what I used, you can use whatever size feels right for you. I would stay with schedule 40 PVC though as it's pretty tough stuff.

Hi, how many gallons is your fuel tank hold ? ( Kawasaki ) Stx12f .
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd664310 ай бұрын
Specs say 16.4 gallons/ 62.1 liters. But, I've never been able to put that much in the tank. I personally have wiped every inch of the inside of the tank when restoring it and the tank doesn't look larger than 12 gallons and that's about all I've been able to get in it.

Hello there brother have a question what did you use to tie it against the JetSki
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 жыл бұрын
Two simple cam straps. One end attaches to the tow rings on the stern of the jet ski then wrap the strap around the top horizontal PVC pipes and the other ends of the straps hooks on the side cleats. Cinch it down and it's rock solid. I traveled that way from Beaver Lake in Arkansas all the way to Norman, Oklahoma without any problems. They were both still very tight when I backed the ski into the barn.
@kevinaalberts92513 жыл бұрын
how are you holding that contraption on the ski??? you never showed that!
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 жыл бұрын
Oh, I'm sorry. It's just a cam strap on each side. Each PWC model will differ between makes, but I attach one cam hook to a ski ring on the back of the PWC then wrap the strap twice around the top side horizontal PVC piece with the other end of the cam hook attaching to a cleat on the side of the PWC just below the seat. My daughter just had it on there yesterday for the Jet Ski's first trip of the year out on the lake. Just tighten up the strap on each side and it is rock solid.

How many inches are the pipe?

Less than two ten foot pieces of PVC. Each build will be different due to the individuals cooler.

Seems to me it would "slide" from side to side with just two straps holding it on.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66434 жыл бұрын
It's rock solid. I suppose if the straps were loose it would move around. I've had the Jet Ski up to 55 mph on the water with cooler rack on the back and I also drove from Beaver Lake Arkansas to Norman, Oklahoma at around 70 mph towing the Jet Ski with the cooler rack attached with zero issues. It was still rock solid when I pulled in the driveway. I couldn't possibly ask for more out of it.
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66433 жыл бұрын
Hi trvman. I went back an reviewed the video and I see I had the straps on there differently than the way I use them. You are correct, in that configuration I believe they would slide side to side. I hook one cam on a side cleat under the seat then make two wraps around the top side horizontal PVC piece with the other end of the cam strap attaching to the ski rope mount ring at the back of the ski. tighten it up and it is then rock solid. Sorry about the confusion.

How do you get back on if you come off?
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66434 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. The back of the Jet Ski has a folding step that drops down near the jets exhaust. The PVC is rock solid with ratchet straps holding it in place. You do have to straddle the chest though when one boards the Ski. I guess it would be a good idea to do a demo video now that warm weather is here. When i built it, it was way too cold to try filming that. Lol.

Whats the cooler size ?
@mathewdavis-adventuresandd66434 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure about the red cooler. I have two that fit inside the cooler rack and both are different sizes. That's the great thing about PVC. Just pick the cooler you want for your PWC and built the frame to accommodate.
