Bondi rescue made me want to become a lifeguard. And I’m now a pool lifeguard in England. One day I will become a beach lifeguard and hopefully in Australia. My instructor made us what this show on repeat to show the difference in countries and hopefully give us pointers on signs and symptoms of medicals

It’s not a reality show so they don’t get paid, thats the reasoning they give at any rate. Its completely ridiculous, the funding for the lifeguards has to be pushed and pushed for and the average salary these guys make is about 50-60K depending on experience and rank, and they pay is from the council not the show. Trainees don’t get anything because its like an internship. Average salary in Aus is 80K btw so the channels are raking it in while these guys are doing second jobs and the like.

It's quite surprising how few lifeguards there are on a day like that. Even on quiet beeches in France without this big surf, there are loads of lifeguards with jet skis and little boats everywhere.

This show is fantastic. Only discovered it here in the UK while working night shifts in a care home. It's screened here in the very early hours on an obscure CBS digital channel. The women I work with are as fascinated by it as I am, but often not purely for the incidents - more the fellas lol. I love everything I learn about Antipodea and its TV shows and TV history, have a close friend there (in NZ, mind) I met online and one day, yes one day, I'll hopefully have the cash to visit Down Under, visit her and see the places I love even having never been nor met my friend in person. Bondi Rescue is surprisingly grittier than UK fly-on-the-wall reality documentaries. Often laid back and larrikin OZ/ocker humour, but takes itself seriously quite often and shows warts and all tragedies at Bondi Beach that pierce through the fun and summertime happiness. Fascinating TV show.

I have so much respect and admiration for the Bondi rescue guys & ladies... 8 lifeguards patrolling 10 thousand plus people... Kudos to all of you!!. Sending love, respect and the hope of rain to all Aussies in 2020...
