Thank you; I really enjoyed this. I haven't been able to fly anywhere since 1992 (not much money, no place to go, and I'm too old and tired to enjoy traveling around by myself) and I really appreciate videos like this one.

I just came across this, thanks for sharing! Really nice depiction of an approach called the Expressway Visual Rwy 31. The turns are all part of it, no special vectoring. At 16:39 you clearly see the "twin tanks" just prior to the right turn and then the straight leg along the expressway followed by the tight left onto final around Citi Field. Great views.

I see the BOS-LGA flights still have those elaborate circling and holding patterns. LGA is always congested so the air traffic controllers often make the flights do some maneuvers. It's great for the passengers as the get the best air tour of NYC. I noticed that LGA has a new air traffic tower. I remember the original 1930s art-deco lighthouse tower. LGA and YUL in Montreal are my two favorite airports in the world for both take offs and landings, especially at night.

Wow! This is lovely, at somewhere past 11:10, you can see facing from north to south(from the plane's window), the Little Neck Bay, Fort Totten and Bayside, Queens, also, Queens side of the Throgs Neck Bridge and ramps to Cross Island Parkway, and breezing to College Point and all.

The beginning is mostly over NY. That highway you see at 1:46 is I-684 along the New Croton Reservoir in Goldens Bridge. Waterview Hills is visible on the left side. You entered Stamford CT at about 3:57 as that golf course is Rockrimmon Country Club which is right on the CT-NY state line, so you're probably directly over the Mianus Reservoir at that point. The city you see just as you're entering Long Island Sound at 5:34 is downtown Stamford.

Basically a "360" from overhead that took about 7 and a half minutes. They have to coordinate all the arrivals and departures from LGA, JFK, Newark, etc. Busy airspace. You just go where air traffic control tells you to...

The Expressway Visual Approach into RWY 31. Hang a right at the two large white fuel tanks and follow the Long Island X-way all the way until you are nearly perpendicular to the runway, then hang a tight left, straighten out and land. Easy, right?

For those of you who watch The Flight Channel, THIS video is NORMAL flight, a ho-hum, routine landing similar to HUNDREDS of aircraft landings that are executed all over the world every day! Engines intact, hydraulics intact, no mid-air collisions, no fires, no stalls, in this case weather wise no fog, no snow, no rain. For those of you who have not yet taken your first trip in an airplane, this is exactly what my first trip was like, smooth and uneventful.
@ATCguy19735 жыл бұрын
He took the scenic approach to LaGuardia after probably a missed first attempt. LaGuardia is one of the toughest airports to land at. Either way, great job by the pilots and great video!
@davidduganne59395 жыл бұрын
There's no "missed attempt". It's a standard vectoring to a landing that is coordinated with all the other departure and arrival flow patterns at LGA, JFK, Newark, etc. You just go where Air Traffic Control directs you. Very busy airspace that is well coordinated. It only took 7 and a half minutes from overhead, to make essentially a 360 degree turn descending to touchdown.

3 hour drive, 20 minute flight. I get it. Some just don't want the hassle or can't do it. I used to drive to GA to visit my folks from Jersey and it was a 16 hour drive. THAT was a nightmare. 3 hours though? That is a breeze. But like I said, I get it. If you have the $$ and can't drive, you fly. BUT, with all the border procedures, security checks and waits, a 3 hour drive is actually faster. You spend time getting your boarding passes, then check your baggage, then X-rayed for threats, then wait for the flight, then wait to be unboarded, rental cars, ect. Then reverse the whole process going home. If it's a 6 hour or less flight and you're young enough, DON'T fly. It's cheaper, faster and you have your car with you. I spent $900 on 3 plane tickets to GA from NJ and it took us a total of 7 hours to get from airport to airport. When I drove? It was like $60 in gas and $15 in tolls. It all depends on your stamina and age!
