Rob! You are the only reviewer I've found who weighed each individual part of the Stash cook system. I'm considering swapping out my Flash Sol Ti's stove with the smaller, titanium one from the Stash. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for weighing the stove on its own so I could consider the weight difference. It's not listed anywhere, not even in their product guide. Turns out, I'll end up saving 80g (2.82oz), get a nice upgrade, and save some space in the big titanium Flash Sol cup!

Matt! Very welcome! Happy to hear you found it helpful! Thanks for letting me know. Enjoy the jetboil! 🎉

Rob, the lack of a Piezo lighter might actually be a good thing. Generally stoves that have one also have a locking mechanism to lock the pot to the burner. The Piezo is added to make it possible to light the stove while the pot is locked to the burner. The problem with locking the pot to the burner is that if you accidentally tip over the pot, the burner and canister fall over too, which turns the gas feed into a liquid feed. If this happens then your campsite, or worse still tent vestibule will become a raging inferno. This happened to me once. One can in part minimise the chance of this by always using a tripod, but it is a systemic design problem with these kinds of ovens. Having a pot that sits on, rather than locking onto the burner, may be easier to tip over, but the ramifications of doing so are not as severe. Furthermore, I find the wire jutting out a Piezo to be flimsy, and can easily snag on other things that you may store in your pot alongside the burner, such as a cleaning rag.

Thanks for sharing your experience Thomas. It does not sound like a fun one. Little stoves are always tricky. With regard to the piezo, I don’t think it’s necessarily linked to a locking mechanism. Check out the SOTO amicus, as mentioned in the comments, or the Pocket Rocket (Deluxe I think). For me it’s just a practically thing and means I don’t need to look for the lighter 😄

@@Chris66able I am speaking from experience. My stove turned into a raging inferno when someone knocked over the pot.
@WesRiley-e6v5 ай бұрын
I agree with Rob. Piezo igniters are not linked to pot locking at all. They are however very, VERY convenient. So much so that I won't consider a stove unless it has a piezo ignitor. Yes, weight is important. But I'll gladly suffer the few gram penalty of an ever so slightly heavier stove for the convenience of a piezo ignition.
@ashab12 ай бұрын
Also you are not supposed to use piezo while the pot is in the locked on position jet boil explicitly states this. I had stoves in the early 90’s with piezo.

thanks for your work! very nice! how do you think, can you manage an experiment, to cut a little bit the radiator of the pot to make an avaliability to insert a stove closer to the pot for more wind protection and also making it more stable while using? how do you think?
@OutdoorPrep2 ай бұрын
If that’s what you need - look at the windburner or reactor from MSR. I would not mess with this one Cheers

@@Утконос-г5д there's another factor and that's fuel efficiency. How much can you realistically boil using one gas canister and in what conditions: wind and temperature. Jetboils Stash is great in the summer but when it gets cold and windy I switch to the reactor.

@@OutdoorPrep if the set weights 50% more, what are you talking about fuel efficiency. its ok in Stash. i would rather take one more gas canister and hide from wind than keep more heavy "something that is more fuel efficient"

Flatcat gear did some testing and the Stash just falls on its face with wind. I would take a 2.5oz/70g Soto Amicus over this any day.

That’s an interesting one! They seem to make one with a regulator as well. Might try to at in the future 👌🏼 thanks for the tip

Loved the review, you have a new subscriber 😁 Simmer control is quite important for cooking, would like to see if this stove can cook rice.
@OutdoorPrep2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thanks do much. I would not cook rice on it. The way I do it is get water up to boiling and then let it cook on a small flame.

Great review, Rob. Quick question for you: I’ve seen most places say the gas is either on or off with the Stash due to it having no regulator, yet you seem to have a pretty good range of control in this video. If there’s no regulator, how is it regulating the flow as you showed at 10:36? Cheers!
@OutdoorPrep2 жыл бұрын
🙏 thanks Great question: so the flame control is better on this one and you can summer it down a bit. Around 6:30 I demonstrated the big flames you could get if the gas pressure were to increase. Think of this as your water tap. You can make the opening smaller but if the pressure increases, there’s nothing (controlling) regulating it. Hope this helps.
@fallyn2920 Жыл бұрын
i found the stash to generally have about half a turn of adjustability between full and low, which is operable. the lack of regulator makes simmering a bit annoying since if you hear a gurgle sound you need to dial it a bit up again, but it can work. it's just not as nice as on the mightymo or windmaster. then again you wouldn't fry an egg in this thing and it's lows are good enough for soups, oatmeal and stuff.

I got the stash when it came out mostly to try the pot versus the olicamp and my tea kettle. I melted the lid the first day. I had to wait over a year before a replacement was available.

Nice review thanks (liked and sub). Would really love to see real live tests on fuel consumptions in windy situations. Thanks for weight measurements. On expensive side fore sure, but 129gr for 0.8 he pot is really nice, I would definitely buy this for us price, unfortunately uk price is very expensive.
@OutdoorPrep2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ed 🙏 I recon those real life tests can be deceiving too, as many factors can be at play. Outside temperature, wind speed, altitude, water temperature, gas half empty, type of gas. I like to take the manufacturers indication as best case scenario and bring a bit more gas. If you’re looking for a small pot, perhaps the Trangia Mini (without burner) would be a good option? No flux ring though but quite light weight.

A gen 1 which weighs a ton! A flash which was my go to stove for years which now is my emergency stove in my Land Rover and the mini-mo which I got just before lockdown, so haven’t put it through it’s paces as yet!!
@OutdoorPrep3 жыл бұрын
That's good thinking! I think the MiniMo will remain a good piece of kit! Have you looked at the Trangia system btw?
@clivenewton76093 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’m a bit of a stove freak😂 I’ve used Trangia over many years both in the Scouts and in the armed services but never owned my own until now! It’s the 27-1 ul, but of course I’ve sort of upgraded it, non-stick fry pan and 1 non-stick pot. I already had the little kettle so I can switch stuff around to suite my needs or expectation! Oh! And I bought a Go-gas LPG adapter which works well. The collection goes on but I won’t bore you with it. ATB Clive

I have one and used it intermittently for about 3 years. It stopped working about a week ago (February 2024). It appears that it is clogged as gas comes as far as the valve. I took it apart and did not see how I could clean it. I contacted Jetboil not seeking a new stove just some info on how to fix it. All they offered was a discount on a new stove, no other help. My feeling is that their costumer service is very poor I will never buy anything from them again.
@OutdoorPrep7 ай бұрын
Yeah these days it’s hard to find a firm where customer service actually knows what they’re talking about and are willing to help. That being said, in this case I would not rush to provide that info either. They don’t want anyone blowing something up after they’ve done a home repair on their propane stove… 😉

Tried the BRS stove - really a whole different flame and build quality. My BRS also leaks a bit gas so can’t leave it on the canister while not I’m use.
