A new song for a new day. Who would have thought 50+ years ago that we'd ever hear this song again exception our scratchy old LPs? There was no such thing as classic rock, just rock. What we heard was current music with an oldie dropped into the mix here & there. Now those old musicians are getting older and struggling to perform, like Ian, but he rewrote their most revered hit into something that fits his old voice where it is, and it wasn't a compromise. It's beautiful and new, yet nostalgic. Ian Anderson is a musical genius. Thanks for posting.

Here's an oldie for you, a little ditty i wrote, oh what, fifty years ago, something like that, aptly entitled, not 'Aqualung' but 'The Ghost Of Aqualung'

Ian has taken Aqualung to yet another level. Love the extended introduction. What cracks me up is Jethro Tull was my first concert 1970 and there was this unheard of band that played backup before Jethro Tull came on......called Yes. That was a double bonus. Holy moly. Thanks a bunch to whoever posted this.

@@gordonbarranger4087 Yep. As sad as it may seem, you’re right. Both great bands and they had their time. As with a lot of older bands , hard to let go cause of the money. But then again, really, those older bands don’t need really the money, but hard to let go of the fame. Like you I really enjoyed back then seeing all the Original members. Like Uriah Heep. Saw them back in the day with all original members as with Led Zep and Cream.

Mr. Tull, please come to Houston. I saw you in Salisbury Md in 1979 or 80. Your drummer, Mark Craney (RIP) came into the music store I managed and gave a pass for that show and it was fucking amazing. Not just the excellent sound but you. You were everything I thought you would be after listening to your albums.

Saw them in 2022. Musically superb, with great versions of all their well known songs and Ian Anderson's flute playing on fire. The only downside, sad to say, was that time has not been kind to Ian's singing voice and maybe they should consider bringing in a vocalist so he can concentrate on what he does best.

Thank you for some of the best times in my life. Ps, Ian if you reading this , do you remember several boxes of Polish food and sausages at the Waukegan Illinois theater? I think the lads enjoyed. What a genius!! Imagine someone who wrote a fantastic great song and then rewrites it completely different. And it is still recognizable, and it's still a great song, it's almost unbelievable. Ian Anderson is the greatest songwriter of our time. I know there are some others that are great, John Fogerty, John lennon and Paul Mccartney, but in my opinion Ian Anderson is the greatest of them all.

I saw them in 2021 doing this version of Aqualung. Whilst I liked the instrumental stuff, it became apparent to me that it was designed purely because Ian is no longer capable of singing Aqualung properly, but still has to perform it because the fans expect it. The lyrics were shortened and Ian got to rest his voice. In many ways I’d rather Ian did instrumental tours as his voice has been gradually fading over the decades and since the late 90s he’s really been struggling to sing live (at least that’s been my experience whenever I’ve seen them) Not Ian’s fault, but he should play to his strengths. He’s still a great showman and musician. He also still writes a good lyric. Why not just form a band not called Jethro Tull, playing mostly instrumentals.

@@vmacartTo be fair, it hasn’t been the same set list for 40 years. The set list did start to get very set in its ways after Roots To Branches and the last three or four times I saw them it was mostly the same stuff, with a few exceptions - mainly because Ian’s voice is no longer able to cope with their older material.
