I am an avid music listener from almost every type of genre, but especially from classic rock to extreme metal. When I was a kid, I used to watch my uncle's DVD collection, and Slipstream was one of those I watched most. That amazing beginning of the song, quirks and maneirisms of Ian make such an impact in me, he's one of my favorite frontman. Until today this performance makes me breathless.

A bit of trivia for those Tull fans who are also classic music savvy...this intro music from 52 seconds in to 2:50 are the last two minutes of Anton Bruckner's 4TH Symphony...very clever use of Bruckner's incredible achievement. You can hear it for yourself right here on KZbin.

This is Ian at his prime. 33 years old. A huge inventory of music behind him and his voice not yet fading.
@NuntiusLegis
@NuntiusLegis 8 жыл бұрын
It did not fade until 1984, and I think in the studio he found ways to make the best out of his limited voice since then, which is still more charismatic than that of most other rock singers, and added some more great albums to the inventory, including the most recent one, Homo Erraticus.

@Trunchisholm
@Trunchisholm 4 жыл бұрын
@@NuntiusLegis His voice worsened a lot before '84, though. His voice already sounded really strained and nasal during the Broadsword tour. But, yeah, the Under Wraps tour made things a lot worse in that respect with the more demanding material, his throat infection and his unwillingness to cancel the tour. Add to that his heavy smoking, unrelenting touring and lack of vocal coaching during the first 16 years of the band and you begin to understand how he lost his voice. An absolute shame. He's still musically great, but I miss his early years; he was as a darn good singer.

+NuntiusLegis Don't mean to be rude but I think you might be letting your love of tull cloud your perception. Ians voice since 92 has been nothing short of embarrassing. The Rock Opera tour is a shameless money grab by Ian, he's cheaped out on so much, like the ridiculous pre-recorded on screen vocals to try to minimize the amount of time he has to stand infront of that mic. He's gone so far as to have O'hara sing some tracks which is really just insulting. The only track from that entire tour I can listen to without cringing is Fruits of Frankenfield. Ian seems to only be able to perform spoken word these days, when he attempts to hit the high notes on Aqualung it's really just shameful, idk if its ego or greed that keeps him "singing" but Ian from 1980 would be embarrassed.
@NuntiusLegis
@NuntiusLegis 8 жыл бұрын
+Doctor Ferdinand - He had good nights and bad nights on stage in recent years. Did you listen to the Moscow clips? Don't forget they are dodgy smartphone recordings. I can't detect any wrong notes or straining in his singing in Moscow, he even does embellishments he didn't do for years. Concerning the concept of that tour - not everyone seems to like it, but it does include a multitude of singers, otherwise there would be no point in calling it a Rock Opera. I think it was an interesting variation on the usual concerts, especially the female singer.

NuntiusLegis Really, you think so? Well, I do not agree, and you know why? Since the David Palmer and John Evans left the band, Ian was not even close to repeat the magic of the albums from the 70's, but he came close on A...can you guess why? Without Martin, John and David Jethro Tull is not Jethro Tull - sorry but Ian alone ISN'T Jethro Tull, and he was very lucky to be surrounded by the best musicians for so long.

A Steven Wilson remix of the A album would be brilliant, with this gig in its entirety included too

Tull was a favorite and this show was Anderson and company’s greatest in memory.

The A tour. Haha! I was there! Got my ticket ripped off right before the show. But everything turned out great. Like, as in, I got back what was taken through a twist of circumstances and missed not the show. Whitesnake opened for Tull.

When I had my first big OE I cae to where family live Eastbourne my stepson takes us up to the downs walking around this area I spy the lighthouse at Beachy Head and even the spot where the pram is pushed over the cliff edge I took a photo to close where that was filmed. As you Brits know this spot has many suicides and I was told of a mother who drove off of there with her kids anyway I got to go there on the few visits we get to see family I get a buzz having visited Beachy Head first time 2003 and I knew exactely where I had seen this lighthouse years before
