This post was from 3 years ago so now 53 years. I 1st heard the album my Junior yr of High School, I guess the season before school started. Not sure I can remember the cast. Pete (driving) and shotgun (sitting,) w/ my step-brother Kenny, and me were in the back seat. This album was playing on the 8-track. Which would make it a tape rather than an album. But these 2 words are intertwined so I believe album works. This was not exactly the 1st time I had tasted beer. Possibly the 2nd though. But it was definitely the 1st time I had tried weed. I can't say I drank much beer that day/night, but I suppose I made up for it for eventually we 4 had drank much beer in many different situations. By the way, Pete was the quarterback of our high school football team. And Shotgun (not real name) was also on the team. I played that year also. We were like class AAA or whatever. I think not quite the smallest that was possible. We did fair that year, until we came up against the Deaf/Dumb school. We got embarrassed! Their running back was some kind of athletic savant. And we just could not stop him. I thankfully cannot remember what the score was, but it was one of those situations where nothing goes right for you. Sort of like what the Chargers did to the Chiefs for the 1st half of that game. However, unlike the Chiefs, we were not able to come back in 2nd half. We lost. Badly and bad. I also played basketball that year. I was on the JV squad but was also on the Varsity squad and did get to play sometimes. But this is where Pete and Shotgun shined! They were very good. Plus we had a Scott who was very tall (for our situation,) I have to go now, but suffice it to say we had a good year in basketball and ended up playing that same deaf/dumb school. Let me tell you, I was worried, but am now out of time.Edit: I remember shotgun's name. Bob!

The drummer was actually Mark Craney from South Dakota who was only in the band from 1980-82. He also played with the Fowler Bros Band, Gino Vanelli, and Jean Luc Ponty. After Tull he suffered kidney failure and diabetes and it cut his promising career short. Eddy Jobson is the violin/keyboard/fiddle player for this gig.

I saw them live in Melbourne only about a year after the album came out. Anderson was dressed as Aqualung. A riveting performance throughout, with Ian Anderson a commanding presence. The concert ended with total darkness and a solitary telephone rang, quietening the crowd. A spotlight came on Anderson, and he picked up the receiver and held it out to the adoring audience and whispered: 'It's for you'😆

I too remember this video when it was on heavy rotation on MTV in its early years! The musicianship is killer! Mark Craney is off the chain on drums!!! Eddie Jobson playing the electric violin is so freakin cool! Definitely my favorite version of Aqualung.

Mark Craney was such a fun drummer to watch! An overlooked drum master from the Midwest...tragically, he died of pneumonia in 2005. But he left behind this amazing vid of Aqualung. I went looking for it purposely just now, remembering it as an inspiration from decades ago. Thanks Mark, and thanks to Remy for posting.

What a masterpiece this is. Saw them at the LA Forum in the 70s. Ian Anderson is so underrated as a frontman. Unique. A style that was original. The music was like a Medieval rock. They put on a show I’ll tell you.

With special guest Eddie Jobson on keys and violin, one of our greatest living musicians. Anderson and Jobson was a great pairing back in 1980, two music legends coming together to create the 'A' album and tour. Barre, Pegg and Craney completed this very special lineup.

I saw Jethro Tull in San Antonio, 1980, during this tour. Def Leppard was in the US for the first time and opened up, followed by Whitesnake and then Jethro Tull. Looking back on it, it was kind of like the great music of the 1970's opening the door to the 1980's music and the Hair Band stuff. No wonder Ian Anderson and the Tull crew wore spacesuit type clothing and had the spaceship theme, they were probably wishing that they could jettison BACK in time to 1970 and do it all over again!!!

The drummer is immense! I saw him on a video of a Jeff Ocheltree video (excuse my spelling if I have got it wrong) and he was regarded as one of the best Jeff ever tech'd for. I believe he passed away some years ago! What a player he was, and largely unknown which is shame. He reminds me of Terry Bozzio.

Love Jethro Tull music in the 70s. Also if ya dig this song on youtube you may enjoy Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band. I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and also read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on KZbin. 😀
