This song has a special place in my heart. The bouncy flow of it just never lags and carries you along and into the mood of pure egoless contentment the lyrics capture so well - that life is to be experienced, savored, the little things, in the now, the "inside" of experience, for which the outside exists to make possible. I can't help but thinking of a group of friends hunkering down is a cabin by the fireside getting a little high and remembering that this is where life is to be found - on the inside, outside so far away. Can you cook can you sow? I don't want to know. That is not what you need on the inside to make the time go." This song so well capture the "philosophy" of the psychedelic experience and of the 60's. I went from tripping and into meditation with this idea as my guide. All I wanted was to touch another's soul and feel the fascination and love, accomplishments be damned, not why I'm here! or something like that. This song was my template . .

I’m the same there early albums where by far the best… I love JT such unique music and lyrics… I had all of Tull albums up to songs from the wood then I think they went a different direction… Thanks love seeing Tull postings

I think that most of what they created from the start up to and including minstrel in the gallery was just brilliant.

Tull's first three albums were amazing great songs and then of course came Aqualung and everything blew up! 😮

I wouldn’t call “This Was” a great album. It definitely is good but nowhere near the caliber of “Stand Up” and “Benefit”

Interesting photo at 3:07 - the 1975/76 band with Clive Bunker and Glenn Cornick in attendance - wonder what the occasion was ?

Got together during the time M.U. The Best of Jethro Tull album was being released. I've always thought the M.U. meant something such as Musicians United. However, I never did find info qabout the M.U.. Meanwhile, The photo is a 12" X 22" poster that was included with that M.U. The Best of Jethro Tull album.

@@anth-ny great info ! Anderson said he saw the band as an extended family where ex members went off to make their own music but still retained a link, this proves it. I used to think MU stood for Musicians Union but I yours makes more sense - cheers !

And this song never made it onto the radio way back when?
@anth-ny Жыл бұрын
Is this a question or just a comment ? Asking because of the question mark. I'm not sure if any of this album got radio play, but it should have.
@CharlesYuditsky Жыл бұрын
@@anth-ny Really a question as I was about 3 years old at its release. Radio back then was quite the experience Im told. There are all sorts of songs that used to be played that have faded from social memory. This song is so nice and different I would have thought it would have made it on the air and been well recieved. EVERY Tull fan that I know loves this tune. Hell I can just see myself and good friends sitting back in a jungally garden, playing songs, sipping beer, whiskey, tea and pot.

@@anth-ny One song got some play. Cant remember the title but has the line "How many cigarettes did I bring along." Oh and the Witches Promise was on WLPJ NYC in the late 70s early 80s
@anth-ny Жыл бұрын
I remember WPLJ 95.5, good station back then. I forgot Witches Promise & Teacher were on the radio. they aren't actually on the Benefit album like 'Inside and To Cry You A Song' but the same time period.
