Jethro Tull must be the coolest band in history, i saw them live only once in my life, it was in 2010, Martin Barre was still with the band, it was one of the best and greatest shows i ever saw and i saw like some 525 live shows in real life so it's very hard to choose, God bless Ian Anderson for keeping the flame of Jethro Tull!!!

Sheer genius. Ian Anderson at his incomparable best. There has never been a musician, composer, and stage performer like him, and it is most unlikely there will ever be another. He's in the same pantheon as Mozart, Beethoven. Mahler et al.

Don't forget Schubert playing the Double Bass while standing on his nose. Now that's a challenge Ian never met.

@@meetontheledge Not sure if this is a joke or a manifestation of your envy of IA. In either event, it is puerile.
@joscrank78132 ай бұрын
Oh, come on. Ian´s great, but do you think he´s really capable of composing a Don Giovanni, Beethoven´s late string quartets, any of Mahler´s symphonies (let alone a Tristan und Isolde or Mass in B minor)? You´ve gone full-on fanboy and your comment is laughable.

@@joscrank7813 Among his peers Ian is arguably the best, although having John Evans, Martin, Dee Palmer and the rest of the pre 1980 band members was invaluable. Ian knew it and gave them a lot of room. TJ was never the same without them.

@@meetontheledge well, that´s moving the goalposts from the original comment the poster left. Ian is a major talent in rock music - no serious person disputes that. But to put him on the same level as the supreme geniuses of Western classical music is risible. And yes, Ian has always relied heavily on hired hands to fill out (improve?) his music. "Additional material by [band member]," and "Arranged by Jethro Tull" are frequent album tags during the glory years. It´s notable that on his purported orchestral music (Divinities, etc), the themes rarely modulate or develop beyond their original forms; they just repeat themselves after interludes of seemingly improv sections. I don´t intend to insult IA´s immense talent, but he´s not on the level of a Sibelius or Tavener - much less on the same level as the composers previously named.
