I've been to a dozen Tull concerts and always loved when the balloons came out. Usually they had an imprint of the latest album on them but my favorite was one that said "OH NO. NOT THE BALLOONS AGAIN!" showing Ian's brilliant British sense of humor.

Loved the set list for this tour, Rock Island was a great record. I esp liked the end when they broke into Third Hoorah, one of my all time fav Tull songs, me and a girl were dancing a jig in the isle

i went to this tour with a co-worker. he was a huge JT fan and needed someone to go with. I was a casual fan and knew the hits. the show was good, but i only knew a few of the songs. But my co-worker was blown away and though it was amazing as they played a bunch of songs that they hadn't played in a long time.

I attended a concert of that tour in Germany when I was 18. Great show, cool opening - surprising how vividly I still remember. Ian is in unusual good voice here. Thanks for the treat!

I was at this concert. My husband grabbed one of the balloons and deflated it, it's been in a poster frame since, but has become brittle. Great concert. We sat stage right and basically had the whole section to ourselves, except for a handful of people. We could see Ian every time he was backstage for his breaks - even pee breaks.

One of the best playlists I've seen. Jack-A-Lynn is fantastic. The band sounds great. A time capsule performance. Even though its tainted the R&R Hall of Fame should be ashamed at their exclusion of Tull.

I was at the same Jethro Tull Rock Island Tour ‘89 in Atlanta at the Omni....the day before Thanksgiving. We drove down from Asheville, North Carolina. What a magnificent show....Opening with “Strange Avenues” and into “Steel Monkey”. Lots of powerful energy on that stage.....great songs from Rock Island like “Big Riff and the Mando”, “Rock Island”, “The Whaler’s Dues”, “Another Christmas Song”....and the classic Tull songs.....and “Third Hoorah”...love that one also!!! Ian Anderson( vocals, flute, guitar),Martin Barre(gtr), Dave Pegg(bass, mandolin), Martin Allcock(keyboards,gtr.,violin, bazooki), Doane Perry(drum kit) were in superb form. Doane Perry’s playing was so driving and musical.....and that drum kit was a masterpiece!!! Ian Anderson is without a doubt one the Greatest band leaders/frontmen to ever walk on a stage!!! Hopefully when Steve Wilson remixes the Rock Island album for the 40 year anniversary box set they will include a really pristine video/audio live concert of this tour. That would be in 2029.....It’s worth the wait for these great artists!!! “Cheerio!”

I don't get why people say Jethro Tull 1969-1980 was the best. 'Broadsword And the Beast', 'Crest on a Knave' and 'Rock Island' and the subsequent touring they did in support was brilliant. Powerful performances of then new and oldies mixed together. Too bad about Ian's voice after 1986, but he put it to good use even when not being able to hit those high notes anymore I think.

Agree, UW has some great tunes too, albeit the drum machine has dated it terribly.
@augustovasconcellos19

A lot of older songs suffered a major downgrade on performance after 1980, since the lineup of any year was subpar in comparison to the original. You gotta be kidding if you actually believe that Thick as a Brick from 1984 (with Ian punching the tambourine in a ridiculous way) is better than the version from 1977, where David Palmer played that marvelous piano's lines before "The Poet and the Painter" part. Kissing Willie is a better song than Hunting Girl? Take note that I'm comparing songs that have the same theme, so you cannot say this is unfair. By the way, Ian's voice was already decaying since 1982. The Locomotive Breath version from Broadsword tour here on YT is embarassing considering only the vocals.

@@augustovasconcellos19 Not kidding, I agree about they suffered a downgrade, but I think the band did well.

@@SilverTounge85 They did well, but not better than before. I actually like 'A', Broadsword, Crest and Rock Island (and probably would like Under Wraps too if it was recorded with real drums - electronic programming was a real bad move by Ian).
@SilverTounge85
@SilverTounge85 3 жыл бұрын
@@augustovasconcellos19 The band didnt have a drummer during 'Under Wraps'? Doane didnt join until the touring of that album I recall. I like it a lot too, but as w. most 70s bands that stepped into the 80s, production and synth dominated their sound picture. "Old" bands had to adapt to the times, rather we like it or not. Jethro Tull grew to an even larger arena rock band than they had been. As with Pink Floyd at the time, a lot of session drummers and drum machines was used for 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason', but when the band remixed it last year, Nick Mason re-recorded drums for it finally.

I was at the show on Dec 7 in Phoenix, AZ. It was a cold night. Ian was sick and the show was shortened. I think they only played for about an hour. What we saw was good, but it was disappointing that it was so short.

they were riding high on this tour, a damn shame that it wasn't shot for release or a tv broadcast...I've got a CAM from Nassau Coliseum, very similar in quality to this...in other words, not much to cheer about. thx for upload Remy, you've posted some really rare Tull always in the lowest Gen...

Thanks for your words! Is there any way to share with me your Nassau recording? I guess it's 1984..., I also have one from Barcelona 1984 but the quality is lower than this. I have a great collection that I'm gradually uploading, although if someone tells me not to upload it to youtube I do not do it

i believe it's actually 1989, that was the Rock Island Tour. I guess I should just upload it. if you have a fast Internet connection I can put it on a download site and send you a link. which would you prefer ? the '84 Barcelona show sounds great also. we could also do a snail mail trade...you can just message me and go from there. it's great to see so many great collectors that are sharing these gems. I've got some more recent shows shot in HD and on Bluray, like the Thick As A Brick 2 tour. I would be glad to offer that one to you as well. thx, good to hear from you.

Saw this one in Atlanta, 2nd time I had 20th row for a Tull show, other was 77. Great show. Made up for the 87 Chastain Park disaster caused by a cocksucker with a fucked up db meter and wouldn't let band turn sound up. So 82 and 89 were only good Tull shows of the 80s in Atl
