Steve, since you like history, here is some little fun fact on Zheng He, from Wikipedia. Zheng He, who real name was Ma He (Mohd equivalent) was a great-great-great-grandson of Sayyid Ajjal Shams al-Din Omar, who served in the administration of the Mongol Empire and was the governor of Yunnan during the early Yuan dynasty. Sayyid Ajjal Shams al-Din was of Central Asian Irainic origin, being a Muslim Khwarezmian from Bukhara (in present-day Uzbekistan). When Genghis Khan attacked the city during the war between the Khwarizmi Shah and the Mongols, Sayyid Ajall Shams al-Din Omar's family surrendered to him. He was allegedly descended from Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Prophet, Sayyid Ajall's father was Kamāl al-Dīn and his grandfather was Shams al-Dīn 'Umar al-Bukhārī. According to Marshall Broomhall, Shams al-Din, "who was a native of Bokhara, is said to have been a descendant of Mohammed (twenty-seventh generation)." Sayyid participated in Mongke Khan's conquest of Sichuan and was in charge of logistics. He served the court of the Yuan dynasty at Yanjing (modern day Beijing). Later, he was in charge of Imperial finances in 1259, sent to Yunnan by Kublai Khan (Yuan Dynasty) after conquering the Kingdom of Dali in 1274. In the autumn of 1381, a Ming army, after kicking out the Mongols (Yuan Dynasty) invaded and conquered Yunnan. Zheng He was captured by the Ming armies at Yunnan in 1381 by General Fu Youde and was sent to serve in the household of Zhu Di, the Prince of Yan, who later became the Yongle (Ming) Emperor and later, awarded Ma He the honorable name "Zheng He" For more details, check it out in Wikipedia. Cheers

Your mum is a natural. Looks so much at home with the intro. Well done! 👍 Btw, at the chicken rice shop, the 2 sauce served are the chilli and the ginger (not garlic & onion). As for the riceball, you can actually break it and eat as rice if you're more comfortable eating this way. Also, it's good to see your mum loving Melaka and i believe Malaysia has given her a good impression.

Hai Steve....!!! I'm excited to see your video because of your mom.... she's just amazing...!!! That cendol for me is not up to the standard... it looks like lack of coconut milk, and that is the most important ingredient to make cencol... that's what make it differ from ABC...but unfortunately it's not there.... That small lime in the drinks we call it "calamansi"... very common here in Malaysia... normally when we ask for "teh O limau" @ ice lemon tea they normally don't use lemon, but they use this calamansi instead... Melaka river cruise os one of my favourite too.... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Give Roti Canai with Devil Curry a try 😊 You can't find it anywhere - even in Malacca where the Devil Curry originated from. FYI, Devil Curry is a Malaccan Portuguese dish and from the way how it's prepared, one can say it's a variation of Vinho de Alho (an old Portuguese dish) or Vindaloo in Goa ,but am not sure about it. Usually, I'd "tapau" (takeaway) the Devil Curry from a Portuguese Malaccan restaurant in KL called Kumi "(Come" in standard Portuguese), keep it in the fridge overnight, reheat it in the morning and eat it with Roti Canai that I tapau-ed from the mamak or Malay stall. That's the best thing about living in Malaysia: You're free to mix and match everything according to your creativity and before you know it, you're having something new on your plate! 😂
@simplyme33067 ай бұрын
That's not garlic and onion. It's ginger paste/puree perhaps doused in hot oil cooked in spring onion for the fragrance. We simply refer to the chili as chicken rice chili not sambal as they are different : )

Chicken rice ball only in Melaka. Those chilli sauce are for chicken rice. So usually abit vinegar-ish. Not sambal. The 2nd yellowish sauce is ginger paste with oil. Usually when you eat Chinese style poach or steamed chicken will serve you this pair of sauce. 😉

Melaka is different from other states, as it’s the only state that had been colonized by the portuguese, dutch, british. There are misconception that the whole country was colonized by the portuguese & the dutch. Thats why the city has a different vibe compared to other states which was a result of hundreds years of external influences

Some scholars claim Melaka founded in 1396. The 1st king was Parameswara, malay hindu prince from Srivijaya. Then, circa 1414 or 1424, Islam become official religion in Mlka. Admiral Zheng He only visits Mlka but not spread Islam. Islam introduced by Indian muslim & arab traders..

Yes. Parameswara used to pay dowry to chinese regime in exchange of protection from his own brother which rules the majapahit kingdom, and Siamese kingdom. General Zhenghe does play a pivotal role in portraying how islam is as a religion to the aboriginal and Malay people at the time. But he's not the one responsible to influence Parameswara to revert to islam. There is this scholar from yemen i believe, i forgot his name cuz its too long. 😅

Not correct to say Islam was 1st brought by the Chinese to Malacca in 1400 . The 1st Islamic State in this region (SEA) was Perleuk/Perlak year 860 located in Acheh/North Sumatra. Also found Engraved Stone/Batu Bersurat/Prasasti dated 1303 in Terengganu. Also Sunan Grisek the 1st religious person who went to Java dated 1392. Prior to that he and his parents (after migration from India), stayed in Acheh, Kedah, Kelantan and Cambodia before he went Java. So to say all these were dated before 1400 (Malacca time period).. In summary, Islam had reached Malaysia earlier than Melacca time. Perhaps not in the form of an Islamic State. Sunan Grisen and his children and grand children (knowns as Wali Songo) brought Islam in Java. As a result, the Hindus previously in mainland Jawa Island has to move to Bali Island and stay there to this day. Would like to add, Sunan Grisek went to area close to Jogjakarta together with his followers from Kelantan. The area that they stayed is now known as Klaten Regency
