It was an emotional night in Winnipeg as longtime linesman Ryan Galloway -- who's been officiating NHL games since 2002 -- called his final NHL game. The hometown linesman was highly-respected in the NHL community, and every player from the Jets and Kings took time to shake his hand.

These officials are the unsung heroes of the greatest game in the world. Unlike the players who deservedly get the pay and respect, the officials are just there in the background doing their job day in and night. Their travel schedule is atrocious and the amount of skating and physical work they do on a nightly basis is mind-boggling.

Sorry Lad, not so Dick Bavetta in the NBA was an icon. On his 2600 game he was given a Video Tribute and both teams awarded him with Gifts and Accolaides. Until the end of that season when he retired with 2635 games AND having never missed an assignment, he was treated the same way the last time he reffed in a teams final game that he refereed. He also raced against Charles Barkley at the All Star Game to help fundraise....

Just Awesome! I wish we would see more of this not only in the pro level but in the amateur level. Officials work very hard going game to game and trying to make our game the best it can be under less than ideal conditions and rarely get a thank you.
