When setting up the swingarm, we should remember that in order to eliminate the harmful and unnecessary torsional stresses of the rubber element of the swingarm bush, we should turn the swingarm bush only after lowering and putting the car on wheels. Greetings from Poland :)

Excellent video, best editing I've seen! One note on the drive axle, many people won't have the money for a OEM but note that there us a known issue in Jetta's with the thinner replacements creating a loud vibration at certain RPMs . The thickness must be the thicker hollow version you show in the video.

Bushings of Control arm should be tightened at the end under load :) (for example car is sitting on ground only by own wheels). If control arm is tightened without load, bushings stay always stretched and that gives them short life :)

Yo those control arm bolts are torque to yield. They need to be replaced every time. Otherwise, good job working on a vw. I have worked on them for 20 years now and I've done that job plenty of times. Usually just replace the bushings but you did it super fast!

And make sure you get an alignment right after trust me lol I watched this same video along with others great video btw very relaxing...now after my ordeal was over with lol when I changed mine and cause man.. you’ll be sorry if you don’t and drive it like that Trust me lol from experience...short story...kinda. I had replaced mine on my new bought mk4 golf. I had stayed in Dallas for probation but was gonna drive back to Chicago and I just couldn’t wait and was excited to leave back home. Well...I lasted two days to get them done cause the bolts were just a pain. Finally got them done the second night and that night...I left to Chicago. Man I regret that I shoulda have slept and got an alignment the following day and left then. Well I was so anxious to get home I just left...well my car was so bad it made me nervous it kept pulling all over the place and sliding cause why...it chewed my tires bald. I pulled over to check on the status and bought new used front ones...back on the road welp shortly after same thing right back to square one. I even asked about an alignment and the shop couldn’t do it...supposedly they needed special tool which was bs they just didn’t know how and was too lazy to. So I was on the road again at night I pulled over cause it was bad at this point I was in Missouri in butt fuk nowhere..and I thought i could do a simple pull over sike nope..no where to, so figured I get back to some road and gps had me take some dirt back road..and I’ll never forget the noise when a rock raped my oil pan and made her oil all over the ground...there I was feeling all kind of ways. Spent that night in my car in the middle of a dirt road somewhere in Missouri in the woods. I could go on but figured you get the point lol always always get an alignment when swapping any suspension component in your vehicle ASAP.

Great job man, I am looking for ideas on how to diagnose a problem on our 2000 vw beetle, I can't find anything online yet, its an automatic 2.0, I replaced a broken transmission mount (1 bolt holding) and new front rotors +pads :when you drive in acceleration little noise but increasing with speeds and it has a pace that speeds up along with speed, the noise when you are coasting around 20-30 mph and its like a grind that sends vibrations to the whole car. New motor and engine mounts, right wheel bearing is new new front rotors and pads, don't know where to look

It's too bad the inner forward mounting bolt for the control arm didn't break free the captured nut in the subframe which is a VERY common complication on this car/ the MK4 platform. Makes this look too easy. Would have liked to see how you'd have tackled that problem at home. Cheers

@martinevan42377 жыл бұрын
Isn't the axel nut supposed to be torqued down to a certain spec? Great video as always, Angel.
@mr.nobody49006 жыл бұрын
Just snug it up with an impact wrench??? that makes lots of rational sense.I hope next time you need to remove an axle nut and the threads are damaged and it won't come out cause you were too lazy to torque it an axle nut to proper spec. You will see the importance in following torque procedure.
@kirk85456 жыл бұрын
In the book (I have the same car), there's a 5 step torquing procedure. The other bolts and nuts I understand just go with an impact but this one I think it's pretty important, as it preloads the wheel bearing. I had mine coming off and not toruqed right, a few weeks later the bearing failed.
@r0ck3t36 жыл бұрын
also you should be putting a lugnut (or wheelbolt) in before you loosen it with the torgue gun , otherwise the small m5 bolt that secures the brake disk will snap off ;) he was just lucky it didnt happen. I know the small m5 bolt is not really needed , but still ... there are different ways of working on cars , one is the professional way
@DelusionalHum.an.6 жыл бұрын
lol ya, the axle nut should first off be replaced when ever removed and torqued to 200lbf I believe then loosened half a turn then tightened again to spec. If not followed the but won't stay secure for long

On my 2004 Toyota Camry, it would make that same noise when stepping on the brakes!!! It sounded like the brake pads would clunk or something but all it was, was the control arm! I also replaced my axle at the same time 😂 and I know the axle wasn't the noise because I drove it after doing the axle and I still had the clunking when braking

I didn't know something so small and simple could make such a huge difference! I have a 2005 MK4 Jetta and for some weeks I've been noticing some wobble type movement in the right front wheel especially when I hit a sppedbump to hard or a small pothole. It feels as if the wheel wants to come off sometimes! I'm planning on taking it to my mechanic tomorrow. Based on you experience, would you say that's definitely the bushings or could it be the ball joint? I've been checking out various vids and it's lead me to believe it could be one of those things. Anyway thanks for the video especially the shot from underneath while driving! That was great!

those bushings can be pressed out of the control arm and replaced and keep the arm, that axle looks to be low quality, usually the original ones are hollow and bigger diameter ... OEM would have been better
@FixItAngel7 жыл бұрын
bbogdanmircea yes I know that. But my friend does not want to spend too much on parts and labor. Everyone has a budget and preference. OEM is definitely better. Working as a used car tech at a toyota dealer we always recommend genuine parts. It's up to the customer on how much they want to spend. Was it wrong to put on non-genuine parts? Thank you for the comment.

I had a guy replace my axles, he said the Import Direct brand is so cheap and when he was putting them on they fell apart. I got an idea he was lying and did not not know what he was doing? Are they that cheap that they fall apart that easy. Then he said he eventually put them back together and when I got my car back and tested it on the freeway I got a weird clunking noise. The noise then went away and did not come back when I jumped on the freeway for the second time. Now I'm wondering if the guy did the job right?
