You bet!! The ling love paddle tail swim baits. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish. I love white. But any high quality swim bait that looks like shad or herring (two tone, white/black) are great options. The most Ling i have caught are on white kitech fat body swim baits. Hope to see you out there.

I've hit south jetty in Newport about 10 times now and still havent caught a fish 😂 just went yesterday and fished hard all day. Moved around a lot and only got two bites. Tried different weights different setups different colors. Super frustrating. Only had ¾oz jigs ill try 1oz next time. Im determined to catch some rock bass. Thanks for the video.
@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
Switch it up and move to the north. Go out past the high rocks section. Fish the south/bay side. Use the same setup. Find a spot that is not so snaggy. Cast out FAR in every direction. Hit all the water. If you dont get a fish within an hour, move and do it again. You will get fish. If on the south jetty go out as far as you can. In close just doesnt produce. If you dont have heavy weights just focus on the calm side. Best swim bait is a 4" Berkley Minnow of Shad (two toned, black and white, time stamp 4.30 in video). Those are scented and they work like $$. Good luck. You got this.

@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 I was planning on trying north Jetty next time just gotta figure out how to get over there. Lol. But I went just about clear to the foghorn and started there and worked my way back in fishing both sides of the jetty moving every hour or so. Fished from about 6:30 am til around 2:30 and only had those two bites. Had some keitechs like you showed in your video and some misc. other swimbaits/grubs. I felt like I was hitting bottom with ¾oz most of the time but will go heavier next time and see if it helps. Thanks for the tips. Tight lines.

@righteousriverfishinginoregon7Ай бұрын
@@PercalTM way too light for the jetty because if you hook a ling, which you easily could, it would break that mono asap. Run 30-40 lb braid and tie on a mono leader that way you can downsize the leader for shad and use higher strength leader for jetty. Use 25-30 lb mono leader on the jetty. That is what I would do.

@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
@qtran6847 excellent. If you think the south jetty hike is tough, the north is way farther. The fish get better the farther out you go, normally, but i did once catch a huge bass at the south jetty not too far out on the right side with big sand shrimp. Shrimp catch greenling (see video #1) and jigs catch rock bass, cabezon, and ling cod. Good luck!

@Justin-zw1hx3 ай бұрын
I am really curious how you avoid snagging when you let your jig touch the rocks on the bottom?
@righteousriverfishinginoregon73 ай бұрын
That's a great question. I do still lose jigs, don't get me wrong. I just avoid snaggy areas and if I snag in one place, I move or cast over a bit. The trick is to be fast. The second it taps the bottom I do a fast violent jig upward. It you keep slight tension on the jig, the hook will stay facing up for the most part.
@itskerbc2 ай бұрын
Do you use a leader with your braid? If so, how long is the leader and if it’s okay for it to go through your guides.
@righteousriverfishinginoregon72 ай бұрын
@@itskerbc leader is not necessary. I do run a leader sometimes on my lighter setup with the 40lb braid but not to trick the fish, I do it to protect the line from the rocks. The rocks shear braid easily.
@righteousriverfishinginoregon72 ай бұрын
@@itskerbc and the length does not really matter. These fish are predatory and will take the moving swim bait regardless of the line diameter and color.

@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
@staceybogart yes the triangle. Fish the outside, not the inside of the triangle. The fish are best the farther out you go. Both sides have lots of fish. Last time i was there i caught a 32" ling.
@siklegend Жыл бұрын
Do you time the tides? Outgoing? Incoming? High? Low? Thx :)
@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. If I can go, I just go because there are always fish. However, I do best in incoming tide leading up to high tide. When the water is higher, the fish seem to be moving around more, especially the ling. It is easier to catch ling at high tide. But, if you can go just do it. If you keep searching and moving around you will find fish. On tough fishing days just use bait (sand shrimp) to ensure success.

@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
@@davidmarginean3948 Yes, very good. Also, the jetty is short so you don't have to hike as far. Also, people just fish off the rocks near the campground and still catch bass and ling. I want to explore that area more and plan to do so soon. Most people don't do well because they don't know "what" to use. Watch my videos and learn what gear and methods work best. Why so heavy line for such small fish
@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
Two reasons: first, the rocks are sharp and they shear line easily. Second, it is very possible for a ling cod to bite. They can be up to 40" and run straight into the rocks. This weight line helps me not to break or damage on the rocks and gives me the best chance at a big fish if it bites. Thanks for watching.

@@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 hi 40 lb braid line on which reel
@righteousriverfishinginoregon7 Жыл бұрын
@user-br2py6ik7e I use 40lb braid on my surf rod for normal size (smaller) jigs and only fish those on the jetty side that has less current because my chance of snagging up is less. On the rough side of the jetty where I catch big fish I use 40-50 lb mono because it can rub on the rocks and not break. Plus, it's heavy enough to reel in a big fish.
