The way Hugo honored both their parents by mentioning their names and also adding 'from France' for his dad...I felt that. That was really respectful.

I watched this three times back to back and instantly bought the book for educating myself and being in the know. This isn’t something I really know much about historically, so getting the book was a no brainer as soon as you showed the book. I liked all the jewelry you showed and to me as a viewer it also says to me the wearer has a sophisticated elegance of style wearing the lapel and tie jewelry. Again Hugo appreciate the elegance of style knowledge and the context of it that you bring to the viewer that not only help us to be more elegant but also preserve the history of style elements. The only thing I would like linked or provided is other links if know to where we can find unique jewelry like this mentioned, as that’s not the easiest thing to find for good men’s jewelry like this. I will though try the link provided in the description on the web.

Yes Mr Hugo - Manners. I have noticed over the past 4/5 years a noticebale decline in manners, just simple 'thank yous' , holding a door open, allowing somone to go first; very simple small gestures of politeness or a kind word. These are the things that, if we lose, will make life that little more sour. Thank you to you and Sonia.

Hi Hugo, I have pins with stem as well and I've worn them on my tie and used them to hold my tie to my shirt or even give the shirt some movement by lifting it up. On certain ties though it has made a permanent piercing so I've made conscious decisions to always wore those ties with same pin. I also admire how brave you are to stick stems through your lapels. I haven't the courage to do that. I just bring my coat to my tailor and have them add the little thread as you have in yours which takes them a minute or two. Ah, here's an idea for a possible next video. Maybe show us how to add that thread in our own lapels?

I agree, many of us have been reluctant to use the tie pins (sounds better than tie tack) on ties (out of concern about possible damage to the tie), but I think I will give it a try... will allow me to wear a couple of inexpensive, yet very sentimental items. Also, I never thought of wearing them up so high on the tie, but that is a good look.

I absolutely love this episode and didn’t realize that I needed it until I saw it. As usual, good sir, you have answered so many questions but also have sparked another in me. If I am required to wear eyeglasses to see, is it beneficial to stay away from a certain type of jewelry? I have been cautious to try it because of a warning you had stated in previous episodes about too many accessories. I do know that when Sonya Glyn, your lovely wife, had brought it up in that same episode. While they are necessary, are there any general guidelines to avoid looking like “a Christmas tree”?

Dear Friend, the rule is simple : don't overdo it. Spectacles are not exactly accessories if you need them to see better, so you can still indulge a couple of accessories like a pocket square and a tie or lapel pin. When we speak of a Xmas tree, we mean people who are wearing too many accessories at the same time and who draw attention to their shiny accessories more than to themselves. Cheers! Hugo & Sonya

I have a question. Can i wear cufflinks without a jacket? I live in india and it gets hot here so we can't wear jackets but i just love cufflinks but i can only wear them in winters when I'm wearing a suit. Could i wear them without a jacket and wearing a cufflinks on a french cuff without a jacket wrong? Or can i just use that as my personal style and just wear it whenever i feel like.

Great video! I just have something small to add as I am a Goldsmith. Palladium is actually a very precious metal, quite similar to platinum. You might have thought of Rhodium plating which is a thin layer of rhodium that can be applied to any base metal or precious metal.

Hugo, I love how you keep bringing up how coarse and vulgar our world has become. Not enough people point this out enough. It goes hand-in-hand with being a refined gentleman. You have inspired me to continue dressing for the occasion in a world where most men prefer to dress like teenagers. These “men” are like fruit that has never ripened. Love your content! Keep it coming! ☝️🥴👍

Hugo, I have a question... I live in Texas.. It's hot 364 days out of the year. I sweat, and really struggle with keeping my shirt collars clean. In addition to some Organic degreaser I use on the fabric, I want to start wearing a scarf, sort of like a crevat. Tying a crevat or a scarf can be very tricky. I would like to find pins, like Tie Tacs, but need a long pin to go all the way through the fabric. Maybe a long stem might work, but they are hard to find. Are there tie Tacs or pins with long stems? What are they called? Ty.
@SARTORIALTALKS
@SARTORIALTALKS 3 жыл бұрын
Dear Daniel, they are generally called "tie pins" (but with a stem). Like this one for example: www.victiquecufflinks.co.uk/product/handcrafted-tiepin/ All my best, Hugo

Wearing a pin on the lapel should be reserved for a club pin, an organisation or regiment. And wearing something in your button-hole - it could be mistaken for a military or civilian decoration. But apart from that a good video!

I make jewellery and love men's jewels. I'd rather leave home naked than without a piece of jewellery. My neckpiece is always first on, last off. Sorry Coco! I wear jackets only so I can wear lapel pins, and our climate is rather warm. The goldsmith Kevin Coates has had a huge influence on my jewellery style.

Dear Hugo, I noticed that you’ve picked up a lazy habit unfortunately common to far too many native English speakers, particularly in recent times. You say, "There’s many ways…." As you know, ‘there’s’ is a contraction of there and is. One wouldn’t say, "There is many ways." Since you’re referring to a plural ("ways"), one should say, "There’re many ways…," or simply, "There are many ways." I’ve long struggled with French conjugations, so I empathize with you. :)
