I am so glad you are enjoying them! Your decision is based on what makes your stone look best and the intended wearer. Someone who wears a ring constantly probably needs an open back since the ring will get quite dirty. We make quite a few closed back settings but if your client is going to wash dishes (for example) while wearing the ring, you probably want an open back. :)

YOU’RE a gem! I learned so much from this video that I needed to know because I do prefer gemstones that are not calibrated and some have had a bit of a slope on the bottom…plus, pink tourmaline is my great favorite…thanks again for sharing !!

Did you not solder the inner bezel down and if not why not? Curious. I thought the inner bezel had to be soldered in

I never solder the inner bezel in unless the back is open. There is no need, the stone holds it in place. :)

I love your videos and this one in particular. The shiny sheet in back of the stone makes the tourmaline glow. Where I live, even fine silver tarnishes over time. How is tarnish prevented with this ring? Is tarnish an issue with this closed setting?

It can happen from sulfur in the air. You can always get platinum foil and that shouldn't tarnish. :)
