Right now I’m in the process of buying beads. I had 6 trays of plastic kid style beads I made bracelets with my nieces with. I’m taking out cheap beads and trying to replenish with nicer stuff and get all my supplies. I am also watching lots of videos on getting started. I’ll probably begin with bracelets and then necklaces and earrings. I want to do it all. Struggling with finding the right beads, choosing the size etc right now along with other supplies. Thank you for this video. I’ll watch more of your videos. I think I prefer simpler designs. I’m not very flashy. Better for a beginner I’m sure.

Very pretty necklace. I typically crimp and have about a 1/2 to 1 inch tail fed through the last 3-4 beads at each end rather than cutting it off right at the crimp point. Just for a little added security and also to keep any potential wire end from scratching my skin or catching on my clothes. Congratulations on the channel. I love the design here.

Thank you so much for making this video, it's so helpful. 😊 I was wondering if I can use 0.5 mm aluminium wire to string the beads through? I want to make the jewelry plastic free so I wondered if metal wires can be used instead of nylon coated wires

Do you need a specific kind of wire cutter to cut this kind of beading wire?
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 4 жыл бұрын
We always recommend using flush cutters/wire cutters for wire and beading wire unless you're using memory wire which requires a special cutter.

The video of the wire is upside down and there was never a closeup of the information on the spool of wire. I could not see how you crimped the bead because the camera is too far away. You provide very useful information but the videos need improvement so we can actually see what you are doing.

HI, I am stringing a necklace with antique large hole steel beads and some are smaller hole beads also. Would you recommend the 19 ,018 beading wire for this type of necklace? The holes in the larger holed steel beads is not smooth. I am restringing this for a friend and I don't want it to fall apart because of the holes on the steel beads are not smooth. So HELP if anyone can help me it's you. Thank you Sandy

From Susan: That wire is fine! Just make sure to string small round beads with smaller holes between the larger holed beads. That will keep the beads stable - so no friction on the wire.

@jewel School I tried this with 8mm beads, but i found the beads shift left and/or right and don't look aligned properly on the necklace.. The only thing I can think of is perhaps this wire is too thin? Would a good idea be to use two strands of wire instead of one or just get something thicker?

Thank you for this video! Does a necklace have to use a string wire? Can I use a string cord instead, which is very thick thread type of string? What is the difference between them? Thank you.
@charlieandzoelawsonshawn2241
@charlieandzoelawsonshawn2241 2 жыл бұрын
Is there a set way to know which type of string to use in which jewelry. I’ve seen fireline, beadalon wire, chains, elastic string etc I am just starting to learn about jewelry making and build up my supplies. So far I’ve only made elastic string bead bracelets. I don’t know what is best to use. In wire or fireline etc do you have to add clasp so it can work for bracelets getting in and out? I want to make necklaces, earrings etc just not sure what “string” to use for each.
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Fire-line is A thread for jewelry-making. It is a strong braided thread that works well for all types of beading techniques, including stringing. It will not stretch or fray, and resists abrasion. It is best used for looming projects for bracelets mostly and is weaved through the beads with a needles and is tied off. We are releasing a video where fireline is used to loom a bracelet on July 27th. so be sure to check that out! Beadalon Wire or jewelry wire is a metal wire that can be bent or shaped and is used for making rings, bracelets, earrings and jewelry components such as head pins, ear wires and eye pins. You can add beads to it depending on the thickness. Softer wires can be used for wire wrapping. Elastic or stretch cord, as you may know, is used to make stretch bracelets and can be finished off by tying it in a knot after your beads are added. It's probably the easiest of wires to use. For necklaces and bracelets, especially beaded ones, you also can get a 19-strand bead stringing wire and use crimp beads to secure the beads and then add a clasp. Here is a video about that! Beaded Ombre Necklace: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZq1nYuea7-CZ9E There is also an illusion cord called Supplemax that can be used to make illusion style earrings, necklaces and used to wrap beads to leather. We are working on an illusion earring tutorial, but here is a video about how to use it to wrap pearls onto leather! The Best Way to Wrap Pearls on Leather: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4WznIqig8Rlf7M You can use memory wire to make earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces. The great thing about memory wire is that it is a tempered steel that always holds it's shape. It's great for beading projects, but can require special tools to work with it. Here are a few videos on how to use it! Making Shapes with Memory Wire, Easy Marquise Earrings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5jSqICplL2WrqM Chip Bead Memory Wire Hoops for Beginners: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooKVgqh9p5KhiMk Memory Wire Cuff Bracelet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJi1hmytlLignK8 Making a Memory Wire Bracelet with Tassel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmrKlHeFa56pptk There are other mediums like leather cord, wax cord, and griffin silk that with a little research can give you some good ideas how to use. Do you think it’s necessary to use wire protectors when finishing of the jewelry and adding the clasp? And are crimping beads or crimping tubes better?
@JewelSchool
@JewelSchool 2 жыл бұрын
They can't hurt. Mainly a wire guardian helps protect the beading wire after adding a crimp bead so the wire doesn't wear down over time, plus it just looks nice. Susan gives a great video presentation on these on the JTV products page. If one is using copper wire what would you suggest for coating it so it doesn't tarnish
@BigHenFor
@BigHenFor 5 жыл бұрын
Buy non-tarnish copper wire. It comes already coated with a anti-tarnish coating. It's a little more expensive than bare copper wire, but the difference is pennies on the dollar, and you can use it without further treatment. I use it for wirework. It means though that you can't apply a patina for further textural interest such as when you use liver of sulphur. You'd need bare wire for that.
