Good grief, Holocaust Memorial Day is a paramount teaching moment! “Never again” must be repeated forever, and must be for all people, for all time. That is an outward-looking, compassionate, and humanistic way to view what Higgins said. So many Holocaust survivors themselves consistently advocate for world peace, and dignity for all people, specifically because of their experience as persecuted Jews.

The Palestinians that died died as collateral damage because their military was hiding amongst them. I am an Israeli who supported a two state solution my whole life up until a few years ago when I found out the hard way that the palestinians are not actually interested in that. They literally say they want to kick all the jews out.

I am admirer of the Jewish people and the achievements of the Israeli state, but I believe that the present Israeli government made a major mistake by its brutal overreaction to the tragic events that happened on October 7th 2023. I blame a powerful far right minority led by Itamar Ben-Gvir for what is now happening in Gaza, and these atrocities are damaging the reputation of the Jewish people internationally. What is happening today in Gaza is (unfortunately) a mirror image of the holocaust.

If you want to highlight negative aspects which in your opinion cast Ireland in a poor light regarding our attitude towards our Jewish community, please be a little more balanced in your recollection of history. Thankfully unlike many other countries Ireland does not have a history of Jewish persecution. There will always be people who have extreme views about everything but please try to put things in perspective and context when making statements about the attitude of the Irish people towards our Jewish comunity.

Armenians were of course genocided in large numbers by Turks in the wider area over a century ago. Having said that, for the most part Ireland needs to mind its own business in the near Middle East conflicts, even if Palestinians are pushed out of Gaza. They have not made themselves popular in America, where many have settled, with the relentless protests and anti Americanism led by Congresswomen Ilhan Omar (of Somali origin - Minnesota), Rashida Tlaib (Palestinian - Michigan) and others. Our involvement/interference puts us in grave danger.

The male host must have been knocked out of his pram. If he went to a ceremony about some of his relatives tragically dying from a terrible crime and the priest starts bringing up things their children have done to other children...... damn it
