As a former Christian I'm sooooo thankful that the Christian scriptures were attached to the Hebrew Scriptures. We Christians are reading the 'Old Testament' with our Jesus glasses on but we ARE reading it and when the time is right the truth flies off the pages like it did for me! Praise God! He brought me out of the lies of Christianity!

Unbelievable! I "accidentally" run into this lecture looking for ways to answer a Xtian who's been asking me questions to debate his position as a Xtian against my believes as a Jew. He finally said to me, "Look, I only want to know the truth, if your way is the truth and you can prove it to me, I will drop Xtianity in a heartbeat! I just want to know the truth!" I've been searching left and right and found this site and I'm amazed. I wish I could ask questions that I've been asked and don't know how to respond. May HaShem open my lips!

Something does not make sense here ....Moses and all the Jewish people at Mt. Sinai hear God speak. Shortly thereafter ( within days ) the Jewish people make a golden calf to worship at the base of Mt. Sinai - they seem not to be too impressed by a God that so recently revealed himself to them. Can you offer an explaination for me ?

Keep in mind it wasn’t “Christians” who came along and added onto the Jewish Bible. It was the Jews of that age who did so. Yeshua and his closest followers were all Jews.

If they were Jews than the NT would have been written in Hebrew not Greek. The earliest NT writings were not even the “gospels” but the letters of Paul who everyone assumes was the most Pharisee of Pharisees. Even if there existed 1st century Hebrew writings of the NT still wouldn’t make a single difference as to the legitimacy of Jesus being the messiah because what would give the messiah its legitimacy is the VISIBLE accounts written of by the prophets of Israel such as, the temple rebuilt not the so called prediction of its destruction. Accounts such as, all the world at peace not waring against each others. Accounts such as, transforming the weapons of war into tools for agriculture and the knowledge of God covering the world as the waters cover the seas etc… all these things are visible to everyone. So what you should ask yourself is, what visible evidence did Jesus perform that you or I say, yeah he sure is the messiah? He left nothing that we should say he is but the only ones accepting him after the end of the 1st century were all non-Jews who were already preconditioned to accepting the virgin birth and a human Devine figure but Jews stopped converting to Christianity when they had to accept the trinity concept and vicarious atonement which are all idolatrous concepts foreign to Israel.

Long story short: The US Navy, in my official "paperwork" (which includes ethnicity and/or race + religion) had me listed as "Other Hispanic" & Jewish. So, I went to Shabbat services on base (Rabbi Frankel was my Chaplain) ... I also had a Roman Catholic Chaplain who was actually born in Ireland (Father Kielty). I went to BOTH Christian and Jewish services when I served in the US Military but I gravitated more towards the Jewish services and in a very short time I was going exclusively to Jewish Services and even wearing a Kippah (Yarmulke) on the way to Shabbat Service. I just love hearing Rabbis TEACH. That's why I'm here. Hola a mis amigos cripto-Judios del estado de Nuevo Mexico. Shalom.

A thorough and interesting exploration of how the Christian and Jewish Scriptures differ as to their focus and soteriology. Blessings on Rabbi Skobac for spending so much time teaching us about the origin of the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Bible. We who have already "grabbed the shirt of a Jew" are deeply grateful for those rabbis who, like Rabbi Skobac, make themselves available to answer our questions and help us along in our journey.

I'm confused weren't the early Christians Jews?
@JewsforJudaismCanada

The first 11 of the 12 disciples were Jews. However this movement, based on the mistaken belief that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah, failed miserably among the Jewish people in Israel… because Jesus fulfilled absolutely nothing that the Messiah was supposed to accomplish (jewsforjudaism.ca/why-jesus-is-not-the-jewish-messiah/ and/or kzbin.info/www/bejne/amrPXpqVidl6nqs . Only by Paul taking Christianity to the gentiles, did this religion (based on pagan concepts of a virgin birth, a triune god and a God-man human sacrifice) did it begin to flourish.. And then, only after Constantine made it the official religion of the Roman Empire three centuries later, did this religion finally take off.

I am a karaite Hebrew and as a scriptural student I concur with Rab Skobac in almost all of his dissertation, which I found amusing. As this is a critic to the new testament, I would like to add a couple of things: 1st.) There were no "christians" in the first century of the common error. The name "christians" was an insult invented by King Anthiocus the 2nd. in Antiochia (Turkey) to refer to Jews astray followers of this new creed spreading by year 200 CE. The word "Christos" in Greek "Χριστός" is the lamest translation of the word HaMoshiah (מָשִׁיחַ) from Hebrew due to the lack of knowledge of the Hebrew language of those that translated HaTorah into Greek, around the year 250 BCE by order of Ptolemy II Philadelphus. 2nd.)That IF (conditional) there is such a thing as a "new" testament that would mean that YHVH, God, made a 'mistake' and that now he has to clear the error by re-making the covenant made with the Avot, Abraham, Yitzack and Yaakob. So indeed, there is no such thing as a "new" covenant. 3rd.) The historical Yehoshua Ben Yoseph never claimed to be God. I.eg.: Jhon 10:29; Jhon 14:28 ... For a fact he was Hatorah observant I.eg.: Matthew 5:17, When asked which is the greatest command, he answered with the Shemah. I.eg.: Matthew 22:36 never the less I am not mentioning this to validate these writings. 4th.)The most important fact is that the Roman Emperor Hadrian is the maker of this new creed or "religion" to unite the roman empire by 325 CE. It should be gullible enough to be believed but should not "look like" the jewish original, because jewish people were a bunch of troublesome tribes that had given the empire to many headaches, several times. That is why he also invented the name "Syria Philisteina" (actual Palestine) to name the region he wanted jews never to return and changed the name of Yerushalaim to "Aelia Capitolina" after the destruction of the 2nd. Temple. Palestine as a country has never existed in the Holy Land. It is the name of a region not a country.

Rabbi Skobac, I would just like the people reading the comments here to see how many christians have told me im a heretic, that Im going to hell, that I am going to burn in the pit, etc...... Thank you Rabbi Skobac. I chose Judaism 45 years ago. When 2 Baptist girls came to my front door to proselytize over 20 years ago, and I pointed to the mezuzah and said we were a Jewish household, one of them responded excitedly "We are Baptist AND Jewish !" I knew then that what you are saying is true.

"If the law is so good, how come (you) are not doing it?" Not all of the Torah is for Gentiles. Some of the laws were for Israel only, never for Gentile believers in Abraham's G-d. Namaan the Syrian was not commanded to accept circumcision or Kosher, neither were the men of Nineveh in Jonah's day. They were required to keep the Ten Commandments, except for the Sabbath, which was only for the Jews. Such Gentiles were always considered to be righteous by the prophets. This is in your Talmud as well, yes?

At the time point of about one hour and six minutes and thirty seconds Rabbi Skobac talks about how Jesus the Messiah would fear God therefore he could not himself be God. I'd like to disagree and offer my explanation of why this does not preclude Jesus from being God. He is said to have put his high and royal attributes off of himself and to put human lowliness onto himself when he became a human. He had a mother and a father just like other regular humans. He obeyed them and he obeyed civic authority. He observed Jewish traditions and customs obediently which are examples of him being humble enough to behave just like a normal human being who was not divinely entitled. He went to the cross and gave up his life obediently and feared God the same way that each man and woman should so do. When the passage in Isaiah says that he would fear God it is saying that he would respect and revere and obey God. Jesus did those things as commanded by God to teach regular people like you and me how to obey.

Thank you, I was taught both (Old Testament all the way the New Testament.) My parents are converted from Judaism to Christianity; however, they didn’t forget their great grandparents’ tradition. The way or the history of Holy Bible and the faith of Christianity without understanding or without knowing the right interpretation of both Testaments, the Word of God's brings confusion with people who are practicing today's Christianity. That is the problem and disaster. Thanks to the Jews keep the Torah (Old Testament) among its tradition and value from the beginning of the first generation to generation. Without understanding the right way of worshiping of our Father in the Haven, and how to live meaningful life and know the meaning of living a good life, unknowingly, many Christians are against Jews tradition. This is the big tragedy of the world. Therefore, even if teaching the real-world history is painful, until all people understand the reality of worshiping the Almighty God, we need the Rabbi lesson much.

It's rather ironic that the same means that the Xtians used to legitimize their claim is the same means to de ligitimize it. They had a better shot of presenting their religion on it's own. But Hashem allowed it so that people from all around the world can come to know the True G-d of Israel.

Christians do not negate the laws of G-d at all! We teach and believe just as you said, living by faith working in love, which is keeping the laws. You have misunderstood a central doctrine. Paul in that passage is speaking of the remission of sins only, not about the whole doctrine of the Bible. Context, context, context. When I lead my congregation in the Lord's Supper, I read the whole of the Ten Commandments out loud to the people, no abbreviations or summaries. Then we pray together for G-d to write his law in our hearts, and to cause us to walk in them. (BCP 1662, The Communion)

Jesus was Jewish and the NT would make no sense without the OT. It is not 2 unrelated books "glued together". The rabbi makes a good point about the law. Christians who think Yeshua came to do away with the law are mistaken. He came to fulfill the prophecies and pay for our sin, not to do away with the law. Peter said some of Paul's writings would be hard to understand and twisted by those untrained in the Scriptures (Torah) ....

No, the NT is not about extra-terrestrial salvation. Many teach that, but if you read the NT closely, it says absolutely zero about non-earthly salvation. The resurrection of the body of Jesus is the biggest proof of that. After he rose he cooked bread and fish for his disciples, drank wine with them. We are waiting for the new heavens and earth that you spoke of, when the full number of the elect are brought in. Heaven comes to earth. See the Revelation, last few chapters.

As a Messianic Rabbi, I agree with about 97% of this, but I must also say this. Paul is probably one of the most misquoted and slandered author in the New Testament, his teachings has been misrepresented into something they are not. The reason for this, the Roman Emperor Constantine and his Mother Helen; and their own creation, the Catholic Church.

At time mark 1:42:47 Rabbi Skobac talks about how the Procurator Pontius Pilate was coerced into crucifying Jesus by Jews. I would like to comment about the context and scope of that term 'the Jews' which only means the Jews in power and control over the rank and file; it doesn't mean every Jewish person in the first century and it certainly doesn't mean Jews of other eras and time periods. The Jewish High Priest had to power to start an insurrection and also to send messengers to Rome to report the insurrection which could cause Pilate to be punished by his Roman masters.

Bottom line the Torah at Mount Sinai is the only one and there is no other Torah after that. Therefore no "new Testament" or any other testament thus no Christianity.

***** No, no one can annul Hashem laws. Even Revelation 12 verse 17 acknowledges the commandments.

***** No I am not saying that. I am saying that if you follow the laws of Hashem you would not be praying through Yeshua to get to Hashem. You pray to Hashem directly.

Where did you hear that Christians obtain forgiveness without repentance? The whole point of the New Covenant is to walk uprightly in holiness and integrity! Come on, do your homework.

Interesting fact: none of the hundreds of variant versions of Christian bibles match each other or the original source scripture of koine Greek NT papyrus or the hebrew dead sea scrolls . There is only on hebrew Tanakh in history all match word for word which match the dead sea scrolls .

MessengerOfTruth How about I show you this, I don't care what you have to say. That's your belief, not fact. Your problem is, you've been dogmatized. Your other problem is, you believe you have to show proof of your belief. Do you actually think I care what you believe or who you worship? It's the other way around. You came and knocked on my door, to ask me and tell me... oh how wrong I am. Get over yourself. I will never believe in the fraudulent doctrines called Christianity. Be happy with your belief. I don't need to be saved, especially by someone like you!. Everything that you wrote, was a waste of time. By the way I didn't read it, it was too long winded. Which shows you have an obsession. By the way, I wasn't speaking to you. I was talking about something completely different to someone else by the way. It matters not what you think I know, Because I don't want to know you. Now move along. Christians are narcissistic pompous asses! So arrogant!By the way, calling me dude, doesn't endear yourself to me. People like you disgust me! To think you're doing your messiah a favor, is only showing your god a disservice!

conor henderson Rabbi Skobac is a very intelligent man, and I respect him and his knowledge. As for the statement that he does not know what he says or does, I disagree. But to each their own.
