As a proud Jew thank you posting this. My Mum and Dad are Jews born in Calcutta or Kolkata as it's known today. My Mum's family moved from Baghdad at the end of the 19th century. She always said that there was no antisemitism in India. I made sure that I was able to visit India with my parents and made the trip in 2007. I went mainly to see where and how my parents lived, the schools they went to and of course the Synagogues. I spent the week in Kolkata and week in Mumbai also.

I've seen their synagogues on an island in Cochin. As a race , they have contributed immensely to mankind. The vast majority of them coexisted peacefully in the places they adopted as home. My husband works at SpecSavers Optometry in Pretoria South Africa and one of the Optometrists there are a beautiful Indian lady called Priya. She is like a daughter to my husband. I've always felt so much kinship between our peoples and in my experience, Jewish people tend to have an especially deep appreciation and love for India as well! My dad (who's Jewish) worked for an Indian software company for many years and always spoke so well of his colleagues there, he was treated really well and it was overall a great cultural fit. I grew up loving Indian food and Bollywood movies and had a lot of Indian friends growing up, and I would absolutely love to visit someday. Seeing the support for Jews from Indian people in the past few months has been really heartwarming and reassuring in such a dark time. Thank you India

Interesting and short commentary on the Jews. David Sassoon was a Iraqi Jew who established textile mill, Schools, Synagogue and a library named after him. The other day while I was passing through the famous Mazgaon - Byculla area, I could see young girls coming out of the David Samson School including many Muslim Children. A pretty sight for sure. Mazgaon- Byculla area is an unique area of Mumbai which hosts the Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians , Parsis who have lived together in peace for a few hundred years. My personal belief is that Jews have been in India even earlier than 2000 years ago. The reason why Mat Thoma (St. Thomas) decided to go to Kerala was that there was already a thriving Assyrian Community that spoke the Aramaic Language.
