Tech Tree & Workbench Guide | Rust Tutorial

A quick video based on the newly implemented tech tree within rust. The tech tree relaces the old random research system which was tedious and risky. The tech tree now allows players to target specifically what they want, catering for different play styles.

its better to rush workbench lvl 2 and unlock it's guns clothing and meds, better than spending 500 scrap just to get a db

I am like totally new to this game.. I have been on a number of servers.. all bypassed this and for like a day or two now I have been wondering why I can not buy any skills.. I like thought it was a limitation of the server I am on but now I saw you have to buy the top items (it looked unlocked from the start) I can slowly buy the skills I want hey!!

Hey man what happens if the bench is destroyed? Is the tech tree per character or per that specific bench? Also if it is for your character does it reset with the wipe?

Your unlocks through the tech tree are attached to your character for that specific server. Some servers can wipe the map but not your tech tree blueprints while others will always wipe blueprints along with the map. However, typically your tech tree unlocks will always be wiped during the monthly update wipe.

How do you craf the item after you have unlocked it

Once it's unlocked, exit the workbench and press Q to open the item search. Find you item and click it. It will tell you the required resources and if it needs you to stand near a workbench to craft.

How come players that are in your group and are on your team dont have the same items unlocked as everyone else on the tech tree. Its a huge waste of scrap for everyone to learn the tech tree but its annouying having 1 person that crafts everything for the group

Well, if everyone on your team had the blueprints for item crafting just because one person learnt it, that means a zerg/large group would have an even larger advantage than they do already. Imagine only spending the 500 scrap to learn a gun BP for just one person, and now you're crafting guns (throwing a random number for a large group) 10x as fast with only 1/10th of the cost for that sort of efficiency. A large group could craft so much so fast without it costing more that they could create full kits in a matter of minutes, rather than hours. They would have an even stronger dominance over a server with no downside whatsoever.

If you die and you have every item from the workbench do you lose your items from the workbench

No, you don't lose any workbench progression from dying. You will only lose your workbench unlocks when the server wipes them.

​@@haulooked.exe1247 Yes, the server can perform 2 types of wipes. The first is a map wipe which will regenerate a new world. You will lose your house and items but still keep your workbench progression (Typically occurs every 1-2 weeks on some servers). The second is a workbench wipe which will wipe all your tech tree progression. You now wont know how to craft anything (Typically occurs every 1-2 months on some servers).

Typically no. There may be specific connected servers that share blueprints with each other, but most commonly they are separate.

Yes, your tech tree will eventually wipe. The time it takes depends on the server but is typically every month. Also, only specific servers (ran by the same owner) will allow you to transfer tech trees

Not all at once. Once you have a tier 2 workbench placed down, you can craft everything from tier 2 and tier 1. The same logic applies to tier 3 workbench. So you only need your highest level workbench placed down.
