Racism is not a religion it stems from the thoughts or tradition of a person. While people sit here and say mormon are racist I encourage to watch meet the mormons...I also encourage you to go into a nyc or Manhattan latter day saints church and see if that is racist. People speak from what they don't know. In salt lake city they are mostly white people yes but so are you saying if we go to Africa and not see on white person is that racist no. People are so closed minded. Yes there might be those who are hesitant to accept people of color not necessarily only black but Hispanics as well. But god knows the true intentions of peoples heart and they will be judged. Because we are supposed to love one another. And being racist is not love. But I am a latter day saints member and I am proud to be in this church because I am happy and feel the saviors love. No matter what religion you are in sadly to say there are people who are racist. They might not be so open about it but there are people like that everywhere. But to be going to church does not mean one is perfect. We all are striving to be more christ like and that is easier said than done. Please don't make ignorant commentd. Be more open minded to know that people have their freedom to choose and freedom to have thoughts and sometimes it's not a nice thought or choice but that is why we are given agency freedom to chose right from wrong.. .... so you have your freedom to judge this church for some people's mistakes and I have the freedom to tell you my thoughts on how each individual in this world has a flaw.. Why only pinpoint lds religion. Have you tried and see what we are about? Don't judge search for your own happiness and we will do the same. Mormon.org

xbl4ckxw1dow up until 1978 the Mormon church was an officially racist institution. Brigham you said "if any white man mixes his blood with someone of the African decent the punishment shall be death on the spot". Many many more quotes I could give you of Mormon leaders who were not only against civil rights but were openly racist. The Mormon church is also the greatest cause of teenage suicide in Utah due to its beliefs surrounding homosexuality. The Mormon church does have some good in it, but along with the good comes also the bad qualities.

This isn't the only time God has made his priesthood authority exclusive. For instance, it was only the tribe of Levi that had the right to the priesthood for generations, and that was lesser order of the priesthood. Even when it was again, did you catch that, again, allowed for the rest of the tribes to hold it the priesthood was still of the lesser order; only prophet had the higher priesthood. And, remember, these people were of darker skin as well. To this day a bearer of the priesthood still must meet the requirements God has established in order to obtain and use it. It's always interesting to me to see how detractors of The Church take quotes out of context and forget that some of the earliest emancipators were members of The Church, including Brigham Young and Joseph Smith Jr. It was the Lord through Joseph Smith Jr. that one of the very first "black" priesthood holders in this last dispensation was called and set apart as a church general leader in the quorum of the 70, his name was Elijah Abel. Elijah Abel and many other "black" members stayed faithful and sustained the leaders of The Church in their revelation to halt the giving of people of color the priesthood. They had a witness of God's necessity to do this as well. In those day other churches and organizations balked at us for the inclusion of "blacks". That was one of the reason of persecution of The Church at that time. However, even after God told the prophet about the hold on giving the priesthood to "blacks", people of "color" still joined as God witnessed to them that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His true and authorized church on the earth and felt to be patient. Every prophet since then has asked the Lord if it was time. It was not the proper time until 1978 as the prophet supplicated the Lord for an answer on this matter. If the Lord had not, we would still to this day be as it was.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Italy, and beyond any personal belief, the words of President Kennedy are true, because he is describing honestly and clearly what the pioneers did! It was a real example for everyone, that can be indifferently apllied to any time, place, country and culture. What they did is truly inspiring and I've always felt their story as a personal example! I'm glad to hear that President Kennedy recognized this. Sincerely!

I was born during Eisenhower's administration, but John F. Kennedy is the first President that I remember. My Dad was working in the huge defense sector back then, and I can still remember the smile on his face whenever JFK was on the tv. Something definitely changed when the President was killed, and not for the better. The sadness throughout the land was palpable. As I can older, I take advantage of the comfort of the teaching of my spirituality about the afterlife.

Actually we are taught that salvation comes through grace. The problem here is that you confuse salvation with what we call exaltation. Also please note, that some of the things that are given as reasons as to why members of the LDS church aren't Christian would also eliminate some of the early Christians.

For another artist, Minerva Teichert, the images were gentler and based on the people she knew and understood. Teichert created her interpretations of Book of Mormon events in a series of 42 murals. According to her daughter, Laurie Teichert Eastwood, “For many years, pictures of events recorded in the Book of Mormon formed in Minerva’s mind. From 1949 to 1951, she created over 40 of those scenes in a series of paintings, first as oil sketches on paper and then as murals on masonite board.”

We kept missing a pioneer village experience on a recent trip to northern Illinois. At Blackberry Farm in Aurora, the heat index was 105. As the only visitors, we found that even the interpreters were gone. At Heritage Village in Fulton, we ran into a thunderstorm that looked like it would go on for hours, so we skipped that one. Finally, at Nauvoo, we had a fine day and plenty of time to enjoy a visit into the past at a village restored to its 1844 condition.

Our Christ is the Living Christ, whose love was so great that He suffered all pains of both the flesh, the heart, and the spirit. He ascended to heaven, and was Resurrected on the third day. He led his life so that he might show us the way. He was born in the flesh, He, a perfect being, was baptized, lay upon the Cross, even though He could have ended it at any time, and died for US . I KNOW that my Redeemer lives, and I will NEVER deny my Savior's love!

When Joseph Smith Jr. and the Latter-day Saints came here in 1839, there were only six or seven crude buildings. In 1846, the Mormons were driven from the area and made their mass exodus to Utah.

"LOL... do you even know what a bigot is?" Telling the world not to marry outside their culture is indeed bigotry. It also has NOTHING to do with God's will. But if you prefer, let's call you a racist and leave it at that.

The rules would hardly be a surprise to Davies. He is Mormon and was raised in Provo, Utah, the home of B.Y.U. He led Provo High to two state championships in basketball and a second-place finish.

Extensive open houses have been held prior to the dedication of newly constructed temples throughout the world and allow visitors to walk through and experience the sacred structures. Once dedicated, temples are in continual, even daily, use by members of the Church for religious purposes. While public open houses for new temples regularly draw tens and even hundreds of thousands of people, millions will likely see this model of the Salt Lake Temple over its lifetime.

I testify with all my heart and soul that God lives, that Jesus Christ is His Son and stands at the head of this great Church. We have a prophet on the earth again, even President Thomas S. Monson.

Awesome look back in history. Nearly 40 years later, I wonder how the message would change or stay the same. Something to muse on!

@Cheshu1 first there were Mormons who went to fight in the civil war. Second if you check the facts one of the reasons the Mormons were forced out of Missouri was because of their anti slavery beliefs. Third one of the reasons the Mormons continue to be hated in the south so much was there refusal to except segregation laws. Lastly you mention Martin Luther King, but you missed is greatest message of all which was tolerance and love for all. No matter who they are or what they look like.
