Love watching them progress. I used to always do a fake guard pull to ankle pick when they step forward. Then I started getting some competency in Ko Uchi (w/JFLO help) and now it has replaced all my ankle picks.

Jiu-jitsu starts on the feet which is Wing Chun (hand fighting) and then leads to Judo to get the opponent to the mat, and then Jiu-jitsu begins.

When training any foot sweep, i like to tell uki to keep their eyes up. This helps with preventing premature stomping and therefore tori can actually train the throw.

I have trouble with ko uchi but it’s such a great technique

I had trouble with it for years. Try different variations. The way it is taught from the back and forth motion never really worked for me, but it does help with timing. Since it's technically a real and not a sweep you actually have to transfer weight onto the leg you're attacking. Getting uke to also react backwards and towards their heel is essential.
