judoka in the comment section: how would you defend against this?

This is good for judo but I’m not gonna lie, wrestlers will take advantage of this. Wrestlers are funny, they won’t enter a gi submission only tournament if their life depended on it but they’ll enter a gi judo tournament because they know they won’t get tapped and they’ll blast double through an 8 man bracket cause judo guys don’t know how to sprawl. It sucks for the judo guys that this is going to happen again but just like heel hooks in ibjjf tournaments, it will help judo guys learn to sprawl better and leg whizzer

Not 100% sure, but back in the day at least, hooking with the foot/shin in this manner was not legal in Judo, as it increased risk of lower leg damage to uke.

As a bjj guy I wish more judo classes were offered nogi. I hate wearing a gi, it’s uncomfortable/bulky and expensive. You need several to attend multiple weekly classes and upkeep/washing them is a nightmare . Also, Grappling is hard enough already without adding a whole other layer of complexity like sleeve/collar chokes. But judo seems very rigid in its traditionalism and unlikely more gyms will offer nogi classes

Ive been working from this ear to ear position and today I was drilling the kosoto gake. Thinking it's gonna add threats and reactions from my opponents to lead into these bigger throws or sweeps.
