Present perfect tense is also used when you don't know when the specific action has happened. I've already eaten - this means that the action has already happened in the past but you don't know exactly when it has happened.
@JForrestEnglish4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing!
@cgawainf47854 жыл бұрын
That makes absolutely no sense. On what occasion would you say "I've already eaten" and, yet, not know when you last ate something?
@Teacherhyattsvlog4 жыл бұрын
@@cgawainf4785 I'm referring to the specific time the action has happened. Have you already eaten? If I asked you this question and you answer "Yes, I have.", would you tell me the specific time you have eaten? No! Therefore, when you use present perfect tense in this context, you don't really care about the time it has happened. Makes sense now?
@cgawainf47854 жыл бұрын
@@Teacherhyattsvlog OK I know you wouldn't state the exact time. That would be unusual. But your original claim was that you didn't know what time you last ate. That's unlikely, isn't it it?

I'm English and I can't think of a time when I have ever heard "I already ate" used. I'm not saying that it isn't a legitimate example of a verbal form. I can't think of when you would use it as a stand alone statement including the adverb "already". Perhaps it is accepted American usage?
