Spent so much of the 80s here. "Buy a wristband and ride all day". I don't remember that bigger roller coaster, but I was 22 in 1993 and wasn't going to the Rotunda anymore. The Bounty ship was my favourite from the 80s though. We all used to do exactly what they young girl did in the video; run straight to the end seats. It wasn't worth sitting anywhere else and we'd often wait for the next ride in order to be first on. Still live in Folkestone. It went downhill badly after the Channel Tunnel was built and the ferries stopped, but it's up and coming again now. The harbour area is looking very nice now.

Thank you for your comment, I loved Folkestone me my family use have happy times down there. The Jimmy Goddens Rotunda was a bit run down but I'd give anything to have it back. Great times and wonderful memories. I've not been down Folkestone for year's since I lost my parents.

Moved to Cambridge with my parents in 1995. I was 11 then! Folkestone has much improved, and there is a good mixture of diversity down there in terms of coffee shops and restaurants along the harbour arm. 40 now, lol, and my kids are 16 😢

Brilliant place - the Burstin was a fantastic family hotel back then - and remember the rock shop at the top of the high street where you could watch them rolling the rocks - great times

I was born in 99 so I only vaguely remember the rides but have great memories in The Dome and the sunday Market. I'm happy that the area is finally getting the development it deserves.

Been looking forever for clips of these rides. Was a very small child when they were there and it’s nice to see some actual footage :) you’re a star.

Just back from Folkestone. Great to see these views from yesteryears. Still a nice place but sadly lacking the funfair

I used to spend every summer in a nearby town of new Romney and would visit Folkestone and dymchurch . I was saddened to see that not a single piece remains of it when I returned a few years ago. When did this happen and why? Do they even still hold the market on a Sunday there?

Would be a bit hard to have a market there now

Hello @Ricky Greenleaf, I am a reporter for KentLive and the Folkestone Herald. We would love to feature this video on our website for a nostalgia story. I understand the video was shot by Dave Homer, but unfortunately I cannot find a contact for him. Any use of the video will be credited and I can link back to this KZbin channel. Many thanks

It was Mr Smiths Rotunder long before Jimmy Godden got hold of it by marrying Smiths daughter.
