Well, sad that they only tell half the story of the Dingo. Daimler didn't developed it in only 12 month. The development goes back to the Steyr ADSK, which was developed since 1936. They especially developed the four wheel drive system. When the UK made a tender for a reconnaissance vehicle, Steyr made a cooperation with Morris as only UK corporations were allowed. The plans and four prototypes were shipped shortly before the Austrian Anschluß. In the UK basically only the engine was replaced with a British. Morris had problems getting their engine working in the tank and couldn't get any support from Steyr anymore as Austria was now under German occupation. That's when the project went to Daimler, which got the vehicle working with their engine.

SMEGGEN H-LL! Rimmer! My favorite TV show WANNA BEE hero meets my Dingo scout car? Could it be? Unbelievable!! You just made my day. I am the founder of the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society, Inc. here in the USA. I put on the very first organized WWII event in 1975. Today I am still at it. Now OIC of 22 IPC. The German Hetzer tank destroyer OF WWII had the same type of half-automatic (pre-selector) transmission as the Daimler. As to armor, I like to point out that the Dingo performed the same mission as the American jeep but with considerable better protection than sheet metal. A large lot of Dingoes were imported in to the USA during the 1970's. Much later I found myself owning one. You can find a photo of it in my book, A BRIDGE TO TIME, A Re-enactors Journey. My person Red Dwarf saga continues. Keep up the good work Arnold.

Working as intended, surely. When a scout car finds an enemy strong point, it should GTFO with great alacrity and report their sightings to the HQ. When a tank finds an enemy strong point it is supposed to overcome it. Thus, a scout car doing 100km/h in reverse and a tank only managing 5 makes sense.

The armour at introduction was thicker than many of the tanks

If you've been taught not to waste your ammunition by controlled short burst firing instead of emptying your magazine in 5 seconds, yes.
