The only thing it makes sense getting as pedals is fuzz & analog chorus type things. There R good cheap 'analog-sounding' delays like from Mooer, but haven't found N E GR8 'modeler' chorus 4 sane price. The $trymon 4 instance doesn't sound than a $30 used analog chorus, but 10X the price. Would B nice if JHS got into making SOFTWARE 2 emulate things like the Danelectro Cool Cat & 'Memory Man', etc.

Some of his jokes R like what U C in 'audiophile' $cams like $elling door knobs as 'speaker cable risers' & various 'equipment isolators' like spikes & goo & stuff. It's extra funny as some1 who worked with fancy gear at 'high end' shops & borrowing things, the Behringer EP2500 is a GR8 amp better than most, as R a lot of Sony receivers, & the best speaker cable is the copper 1 side, aluminum (or something gray) on the other = evens out the sound (sounds silly but true!) Best sounding guitar cable was super thin stuff, with tiny center braided copper wire & foil shield (no braid on outter return 'ground'). Bit noisy when moving it (with high gain) but more transparent sound. Pete thorn has a many cables demo where he proves the differences between what he selected.

I used to be one of those people that constantly needed a fuzz or distortion with reverse reverb or delay going and maybe some vibrato for killer shoegaze tones. The problem was though, that I never grew in terms of playing, I was playing to the gigantic walls of fuzz rather than actually learning chords or notes. Johnny Marr of The Smiths inspired me to play cleaner and use light gain/or a compressor, chorus if I want modulation, and a bit of reverb or delay. Since then, while I’m admittedly mediocre at best, I’ve grown in terms of actually learning how to play guitar and not just strumming randomly to a swirling wall of noise.

This video was probably the best one ever. So I'm a gear head, and with Cars and home audio video equipment. For many years I have spent more time washing my car, waxing etc, changing cables and gear and tweaking the system with the home audio video gear , and with the pedalboard, Dude I have over the years went from pedals to a Multi effects unit, then back to pedals over and over then got a pedal switcher when they came out , then added multi effects pedals mixed with other pedals and it never ends. I spend more time thinking about all of that then actually playing guitar . I really need to spend more time practicing then messing with the gear. I definitely have issues. Dude I gotta tell you, I really enjoy all of your videos, your pedals and opinions on basically everything, Nice job man. Anyway I get it , We all buy pedals bigger pedalboards etc and I have been thinking about this for a long time. I want to get down to just Reverb , Delay, Chorus and maybe 1-3 Overdrive style pedals. But then you need a Buffer, a Noise gate a EQ pedal and then the madness starts. Then you think "well what if I want a Phaser or Flanger?"Then anxiety sets in and you put pedals back on your board. Why do we need 3 Delay pedals? Especially when one of them is a fully programmable and MIDI controllable Boss DD-500 that can basically recreate any Delay sound you could ever want. and so many more you will never need? Yet you want to put other Delay pedals? I think we as Guitarist and with Pedal issues need a special kind of therapy.

I was downsizing my board to just 3 pedals. I succeeded. But then I got a looper, and it meant that I had a better reason to use the ABY box I just took off a month ago than just to use two amps in parallel. My pedalboard ended up doubling in size, but I'm happy with where it's at now.

Zach really gets some great tones there. Love the Surf jam!

Fact, I’m not even a guitarist but this was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on KZbin. PS, I love your show and thank you

Love this episode. We can relate! I wanted so many pedals that I just gave up and went for multifx. So I guess you coild say I am down to one pedal, finally.
