Totally agree with you about wedding. You guys are lucky that your parents give you freedom. Some parents insist to hold a huge wedding even their daughters/sons don’t want to.

I ending up not having a wedding reception or even wearing the traditional wedding gown. It’s just too expensive and too stressful. To me, my wedding must need to be enjoy full and happy and it’s not about anyone else except the couple. We eloped and had 2 witnesses and a judge. 6 years later, I have no regrets and that’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m glad I didn’t buy that 1k wedding gown either cuz then I’ll open to a closet with a dress reminded me that I’ve spent 1k just to wear it for one night. I rather save that money for buying a couch or some pots and pans, that’s just much more practical. But do whatever y’all want. The wedding is not about others, it’s about you as a couple.

Me and my husband have exactly the same experience like you guys, our families from different countries and travel a lot. Friends are everywhere in the world. Me and my husband did the marriage registered during covid , I didn’t even care enough to get a ring either. And yes registered in hk government as well. Lol😂 I hate the stress of organising the wedding, and one big thought was I rather keep my wedding cost into travelling cost and investment. Specially it’s the hard earned money.

Why not just take a couple of wedding photos as something to remember by and then have a small reception or buffet for only immediate family members and really close friends in each place (HK, S Africa)? You only live your youth once.

Did Torres not tell you that Chinese marriages don't involve any name changes? The concept of maiden names doesn't even exist. Women always keep their original surnames. The only context when you'd use your husband's surname is when you're being formally referred to as "Madame Pit" in polite company.
