This language is a living museum dude. It's so staggering to hear how diferrent languages, that influenced maltese over the years, are still kept alive on a day-to-day basis. It *_really is_* a mix of Italian, Arabic and English. Not only that - somehow, some words actually sound *_100%_* like brazilian portuguese. *Beautiful.*

Cristian Burghelea In terms of structure it's SEMITIC language, totally foreign to European languages. You wrote that you "understood much of the speech", but aside from words derived from European languages thrown in there (of which there's a considerable number), It's a completely alien language, especially italian in terms of pronunciation.

Cristian Burghelea - Lol it pretty much already is a Romance-Arabic interlanguge. Genetically derived from the same dialect of Arabic that Tunisian and Moroccan Arabic come from, and has been morphed by proximity and time into this peculiar, unique blend of the two we have today. It's awesome to hear. Someone else here called Maltese a living linguistic museum - I think that's the most apt description of Maltese I've ever heard.

@sebastiangudino9377

Arabic letters are not that hard, the hard thing is that they don't have vowels But yeah! Learning Maltese first might be a nice way to get used to the grammar without having to learn a lot of vocabulary. As you can see you can very easily get what they are talking about But there are also very few resources for learning Maltese. And not only that, but also being fluent in Maltese would not help you understand a lot of Arabic, since you will not know most words So if your goal is to study Arabic, and you know Italian. I think a great thing you can do is study Maltese and concurrently study MSA (Modern Standard Arabic). MSA is a very different language both in term of grammar an vocabulary when compared to Maltese so you're not likely to get confused and then when you decided to actually learn an Arabic dialect, the combination of Maltese and your basic understanding or Modern Standard Arabic and it's vocabulary are going to make it a walk in the park

The word "borġ" in Maltese means "a heap", e.g. "borġ ġebel" meaning "a heap of sones". It is also a very common surname (probably the most common surname) in Malta. The plural is "braġ". There is a Maltese village called "L-Ibraġ".

Se nota mucho la influencia italiana, aunque sé que es como una mezcla de Inglés, Árabe e Italiano, pero foneticamente suena muy nórdico, pero está muy bien el idioma ojalá lo sigan enseñando y manteniendo este idioma de transición como es!

The *Maltese people* are justly proud of their *Arab* heritage, *Arab* roots, *Arab* traditions, *Arab* ways of living, *Arab* life styles, *Arab* culture, *Arab* blood and, most of all, their *Arab language* despite the input or pollution of Italian vocabulary. The vast majority of Maltese people now regard their country as just a Christian, Europeanised and whiter part of Tunisia. Its occupied by Europe! And most would love nothing more than to see Malta and Tunisia merge into one country and be called either *Maltisia* or *Tumalta*. Many Maltese are now waking up to this and are discovering their *TRUE* roots despite the Zionist propaganda. They can clearly see the similarities between spoken Maltese and Tunisian dialect Arabic on KZbin videos and elsewhere. The similarities are blindingly obvious! As a Tunisian Arab it makes me so proud to hear this wonderful language in a written romanised form. Many Arabs considered Malta to be a 'lost' or 'stolen' child from us, their natural mother. And one day we will embrace our beautiful 'child' once more. Inshallah!
