When CMI came out it was much harder to find than the others for some reason. The first and only time I ever saw a physical copy for sale in a store was in a video game store at a mall. I was like 9 or 10 years old. It was the same day I had an appointment with an optometrist so my eyes were dilated and I couldn’t even read the box. My dad said it was too expensive to buy then and maybe I’d get it for Christmas, since I couldn’t see the price on the box I have no idea to this day how much it was actually selling for. Well we couldn’t find it after that and buying things off of the internet wasn’t quite what it is now. It was a lot riskier I mean, my dad had numerous cards compromised from ordering things online. Didn’t matter how reputable the seller was it seemed like he was always having to get a new card because somehow someone got his card number. So we resorted to downloading it from a peer to peer program, which did lead to me playing the game briefly but with no cutscenes and no audio. That didn’t really work out because I had little to no idea what was going on, so I just went without playing it before moving onto Escape from Monkey Island. Weirdly enough EFMI on PC and the Lucasarts bundle that had the first two MI games were both available in our local Wal-Mart for a long time and EFMI on PS2 was at our local movie gallery. As an adult I bought a copy of CMI and after some canoodling with the scumm engine I finally played CMI. I was not disappointed. Totally random story.

I like the graphics in the third instalment, but it is unnecessary cartoonish. The style of the original game was always perfectly fine and should have been never changed in any of the later games.

Stranger...they totally changed the animation style in every installment. I originally thought part two had the best animation, but now the original VGA version of part one seems to be the best. Part three had a nice storyline and the graphical style grew on me. MI4 looks horrible.

I absolutely love the monkey island saga! I was introduced it by my auntie in the late 90s as she owned the floppy disk version of the original 2. We played and played that for many hours and eventually completed them. In the early 2000s I then came across the 3rd at an electronics store. And again I played and played that. Got stuck though to the point I cried because I couldn’t work out how to get out of the snake that ends up eating you! In those days internet and KZbin weren’t around for walkthroughs!! However eventually my grandad told me about the use of ipecac. So I worked out what to do with the flower and syrup that you have in your inventory 😅 Then this came out and I purchased it on PS2 and me and my best friend at the time and still is we spent many many hours playing this. Watching this walkthrough is incredibly nostalgic purely because I had played this so much with my friend and it took us AGES to complete! I reckon a good 2 years... 😂

EFMI wasn't a bad title. It was an interesting addition to the series with a story that, despite some flaws, could still stand on its own two feet. The Good: -they reused the GrimE. That engine gives me weird nostalgia Alone In the Dark-ish vibes and the fact that some animations look choppy and stiff (the plummeting of Guybrush in the water before entering Pegnose Pete's secret cave, for example) just adds to its charm. -it was the return of Guybrush and the crazy crew of the Tri-Island Area. At the time, LucasArts was about to give up on the whole adventure genre, but thanks to Grim Fandango and the popularity it gained, the developers manages to give us a new chapter of the saga. -it gives some sort of closure to events that happened in the previous games. We get to know how Guybrush and Elaine cope with each other as a married couple, what happened to the first crew, who's Grandpa Marley and the reason why Monkey Island is the host to the second biggest monkey head (according to Guybrush). -it was the last "official" MI game. Most of the developers behind this game left Lucasarts to found Telltale Games and show that the adventure genre wasn't so dead after all...although we had to wait for that and we all know TTGs' destiny. The Bad: -MI wasn't meant for the GrimE. As much as I adore the engine, I can't help but find it out of place for a MI title. That series was born to be point 'n' click and tank controls are more of a hindrance than a benefit. Sure, it streamlined the interaction, but I prefer to control it the old way...or at least with the "logo" interface, pioneered by Full Throttle and reused on COMI and, funnily enough, on the Remastered Edition of Grim Fandango. And let's not talk about some glitches and bugs that didn't get fixed since GF, like the fact that sometimes running through a door can make you turn 180° and back in the place you tried to exit from. -it was a bit of a "white lie". After Grim Fandango, Lucasarts hinted at the fact that they would concentrate more on their SW franchise. Grim Fandango was meant to be a parting love letter to all the Lucas adventurers out there, an experimental title to say goodbye to a dying genre. EFMI was not a necessary entry in the series and feels so forced sometimes, it's like that letter was written on toilet paper. I'll let you people guess what they used as ink. -the plotholes. Where do I even start? The fact that some of the info doesn't add up with the previous titles? Like "how come that in SOMI the captain's log of the Sea Monkey talks specifically about Herman Toothrot and now we find out that he's Elaine's estranged grandfather?" or "why, after three games and three times defeating LeChuck, Guybrush still remains a disrespected goof, even after marrying the Tri-Island governor?" or even "if Carla, Otis and Meathook hate him so much for stranding them on Monkey Island, how come they still act friendly toward him? And since they know their most hated captain lives in Melee Island, why would you go and live back there, especially since they blatantly mutinied and threatened him with a keelhaul?" and so on. EFMI twists and turns to give an explanation to everything, stepping on the toes of the previous titles. And no: "comedic effect" is no excuse. -the whole damn Monkey Kombat mechanics. Of all the things that peeved me the most, Monkey Kombat was the most tiring and useless exercise in repetition and note-taking. I can remember old passwords and codes from even older games, I remember step by step how to finish several adventure games, I even managed to finish King's Quest V without smashing the keyboard to the monitor, but I swear I can barely remember the moves for Monkey Kombat. And for added replay value (or a stinging laugh behind your back from the developers) the moves are randomized at each new game. Basically you need to take notes and then throw them away for the next game. Thanks, but no thanks. Also, the final battle? Crap. -the heavy-handed satire. Yeah yeah, I get it, "wealthy australian man buying everything he sees because he can and he's a soulless monster about it". It's stupid and boring, just like the person they mock with Ozzie Mandrill. Probably, if the character was italian, they would have named him "Italo Fettuccini". Stale, unoriginal. The fact that the guys behind this game are the same who came up with "Sam & Max: Hit The Road" really feels like an offence, like paying for an art commission from an artist known for how detailed and life-like his style is, only to get two crude stick figures standing still. How could you, Stemmle and Clark, how could you? EFMI, as I said, is not the worst adventure game and, despite the flaws, it can still be fun. Not the kind of fun that might incite a second play, in my opinion, but there are still some valid parts that makes it worth playing. YMMV.

The main problem of Monkey Island 4 is not that it's 3D, it's just how much they sacrifice just to make for those 3D graphic. All models look so stiff, they bearly go off model (aka those stretchy animations) making it less funny as it supose to be. Audio sometimes is also all over the place. They could use this extra space for that rather that graphics. I know this was made when "3d was the new cool kid in the block" and "2D is the past" but yeah they should wait like 6 years befoe making Advanture game in 3D. Another sacrifice of the mass mind on something.

So much nostalgia! I always remember the parrots/rock part giving me such a hard time. These puzzles would take HOURS to solve as a kid. I didn't know if it the difficulty was just because I was young, but watching this makes me realize the crazy jumps in logic didn't help with that difficulty lol. The characters are so funny to me. Catching so many things I didn't 20 some years ago. Also the time share guy's shirt at 1:52:00 seems like just negative space, the background to whatever program was used to make the game or something lol.

Tbh i still remember this game from the first time i played it when i was 4 on my ps2 or original xbox can't remember which one but i know i could have never beaten that guy at arm wrestling and because i didn't know how to speak english it made it so much harder but now when i was watching a top video and i was like wait a second i remember those graphics and then i searched it up found your videos the same thumbnail as the game case photo and i was like holy s**t this is the game and i saw you beating that guy and i was like why is it so easy now

Wait a minute. Ozzy is the one who sent Captain Marley into that whirlpool? But in Monkey Island 3 LeChuck says he’s the one who sent Marley into that whirlpool! Was he just blowing smoke to discourage Guybrush and Elain?

Så, the Monkey Combat part takes about 45 minutes for a person who probably has played the game many times over. Imagine my frustration as a teenager newbie. What a turd segment in an otherwise decent game!

the GOG version has a updated launcher which makes it compatible with windows 10-64 bit, and if you have the old Original you can google 'updated launcher for Escape of Monkey Island' and download it from the net

Thanks for posting this. I think this may be the most disappointing of the Monkey Island series, and would prefer not to play it myself, again. But I don't mind watching someone else. :)
@THESCUMMBAR8 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's definitely the most disappointing on multiple fronts: Graphics, Music, Story and Controls. The only thing that wasn't too disappointing was the puzzles. But it's part of Monkey Island history, so gotta cover it. :) Thanks for watching.

8-bit pirates eyes don't do a thing for me. These are probably the same type who like to point out every single flaw in a movie, ruins it for the rest.

Escape was the first Monkey Island game I played. Took me forever to even get past the first level cause i didn't understand the controls. Then I got stuck on Melee for months until I finally made it to Lucre. Damn that swamp puzzle🤬😅

I think my biggest problem with this game is (I can forgive the proportions of the characters because it fits well with the 3d art style) the very fast paced dialogue. It’s way too fast and it really doesn’t give you enough time to just enjoy all the gags and fun dialogue that they do say. It takes away from the experience in my opinion

Day Star Disney didn’t. The maker of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert tweeted Disney back in 2016 asking for the intellectual property rights back since Disney wasn’t using it and he was ignored ever since. So the future of Monkey island is pretty much over now...thanks Disney.

Where's Alexandra Boyd as Elaine. Mandatory rule number 1: Never do these games without the three lead voices and they broke it.

I really don’t mind this one’s elaine. I think she does a good job. What do people not like about her other than she’s not the original?
@THESCUMMBAR4 жыл бұрын
I agree that Charity James did a fine job as Elaine in this game. A lot of people didn't like the move from a British voice actor to an American (doing an american accent.) And to be fair, it was an odd choice. Almost like the character of Elaine changed nationality.
