I find that 30-40 feet of water is the sweet spot for big Black Sea bass. I’ve caught plenty of 20+ inchers with a 3-4 ounce bucktail and a piece of cut up squid on it. In the early spring and late fall when they are hungry enough I’ve even had them hit top water lures. Super fun fish to catch and absolutely delicious to eat. Tight lines boys

@@JohnSkinnerFishing there definitely should be. There were plenty a few weeks ago in the 50 to 40 foot range inland but my guess is they are around the deeper sand waves because of all this heat, but it's just a lot of ground to cover to find them. Enjoy your videos. But, some more info about the spots up front would help, in this case simply the depths being fished. Perhaps I missed it. “4oz jig and 15lb braid” along with depth it’s being fished would tell us more about speed control. Thanks!

FYI.. In typical conditions, red turns muddy gray at about 17 feet. Orange follows at 24 feet. Yellow is next at 50 feet. Then Green at 85 feet. Indigo follows at 116 feet. Violet remains visible at great depths. Maybe try violet next?

Glad you're liking the rod! I don't know what those grips are. Josh at J&H found them after I took the third prototype behind his shop and sprayed it with a hose and told him the grip was too slippery when wet. Then he came up with whatever is on there now.

I recently picked up one of these rods and am looking forward to getting out with it. I was curious to know what the thought process was with the eyes wrapping around the round. Thanks
@JohnSkinnerFishing3 жыл бұрын
It reduces torque from the rod wanting to turn on its side if all of the guides are on top. Many good conventional rods are built that way these days. You'll understand why when you use it. Thanks for your support!

I thought you needed to drift when jigging for sea bass. You taught me something new (again). Here's a question about strategy: What is your next move if you are catching good numbers of sea bass on clams, and only a couple on jigs. Only 2 keepers out of 2 dozen. Do you move deeper? 55' depth, 67 degree water and current required 6 oz sinkers. Unfortunately I only had chrome jigs, but I tipped it with Gulp.
@JohnSkinnerFishing3 жыл бұрын
I don't fish any bait for seabass because it attracts too many little fish of multiple species. As waters warm, I definitely move deeper for Long Island Sound seabass. Also, heavily fished areas see the keepers culled out within a couple weeks of the season opening.

Your boat might get by with the same 80-pound thrust motor I have, but with a 72'' shaft. They're a game changer. There's a link in the video description. Installation difficulty will depend on the layout of your bow. You'll also need 2 dedicated batteries for this 24-volt motor, or one pricey lithium.
