Thanks John I’ve bought a few hog balls from you and at shops love em they are fantastic!! These pointers I can’t thank you enough!! How about chum bag techniques or chumming and do you throw back the grunts or will grunt throwbacks scare off the bite ? I keep them alive in the bait well jic...then throw back - lastly do you hogfish first or last ?Thank you very much !

If I'm hogfishing I typically try it immediately on a spot and then I'll see what bycatch is from there. If the mangos/yellowtails/scamps are eating well on hogfish baits I'll switch to lighter jigs and tackle. We usually just cut the grunts loose immediately unless I'm looking to feed some people in which case I'll keep the bigger ones to eat.

When you refer to you using lighter jig heads, do you mean like slacker jigs, huggy jigs, or something else?

do you have any good gps fishing spots out of crystal river? We fish off the golf and its so shallow there. We try fishing by the drudged out line for the ships, but it's only like 16- 20 feet.

Chappers, thanks for the video man. Whats the best way to not catch a lot of grunts? Don't let the bait hit the bottom?

I've got spots that are loaded with grunts, no matter when I go there. Hopefully the mangos and grouper are more aggressive if you're jighead fishing they'll hit on the drop. Sometimes all you can really do is weed through the grunts as by catch or go bigger on your baits. They don't seem to like small pinfish or whitebait nearly as much as deadbait.

No problem letting the fish pile on the boat. They're already hotter than the ice in the chest. Let them cool down to area temperature and then put them on ice. Saves ice and there's really no point of putting a Hot fish on cold ice
