Hey, guys! In this video, we head out for a day of jigging Dusky rockfish. But first, we have to break out of the iced up harbor. It's a beautiful, clear, chilly day in this video, this time of year we have to take care not to let our fish freeze in the winter air. These fish we'll gill, gut, package, and ship fresh to customers around the US.
Thanks for watching!

It’s funny to see how you guys do rock cod fishing on the West Coast we use between 25 and 100 hook canyons and we cut our line put a buoy on it and will set for out like that and rotate around usually anywhere between 100 fathoms to 300 fathoms sometimes deeper between 600 fathoms pretty cool I miss commercial fishing

What stops the jigger motor when the line gets to the top? Is the belt loose enough to start slipping when that ring gets to the pulley?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Manual on/off switch, but it will slip the clutch (big black knob on side of spool) if we are to slow or distracted. It also helps with heavy pulls in a big swell, the clutch will slip and it's easier on the gear and lose less fish.

Is your boat made to cut thru the Ice🤔?
@EISAlaska

It's ok for thin ice or a short distance. Freshwater ice can be very dangerous, especially for wood hulled boats as it freezes so hard and is very sharp.

Question: Does broken up ice that has re-frozen pose a more difficult time for you to get through? I am thinking in terms of when you have to come back in to port, its not like you are only gone for an hour.....
@EISAlaska

Hi Bret, actually after it breaks up it tends to float out with the tide. Along with the heat of the day, it doesn't have a chance to really thicken.

Hey guys, I have watched several of your jigging videos and searched the internet, but can't seem to find the company that makes your downriggers/jiggers. Where did you buy them from. How much weight can they pull? Could it haul up a Halibut?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jimmy. Here are a few links. They are called Bandit or snapper reels down south. blueoceanmarineequipment.com/commercial-fishing-supply/bottom-fishing-reels/ secure.atagulf.com/cgi-local/webcat/products_page.cgi?reset=2330 They will easily haul up halibut. We pull 100# of cod in heavy current with no problem. The Scotty motors they have now are kind of weak though. Might want to go 24 volt 1/2 hp.
